Sitemap.xml problem in Google webmaster
-
Hi,
My sitemap.xml is not submitting correctly in Google Webmaster.
There is 697 url submitted but only 56 are in Google index.
At the top of webmaster this is what it says ->>>
http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml has been resubmitted.
But when when I clicked status button RED X occurs.
Any suggestions about this, thanks...

Cheers for your reply and answer
& Yes most of your assumptions were correct I am using sitemap generation. The issue is fixed there was a problem with the sitmap when created but it's all sorted now & submitted correctly in WMT.
Thanks...

For the 8 invalid pages, you need to fix the URLs. Based on your questions I assume you are using some form of sitemap generation software. Apparently it is not configured correctly. You will need to take a look at these pages to determine why the URLs are invalid and/or contact the sitemap software vendor.
With respect to the indexing, submitting a sitemap is no guarantee that the pages will be indexed. You can submit a 1000 page site and have every page indexed, or you can have only a couple hundred pages indexed. There are a variety of factors involved.
Some factors which can affect indexing:
-
Is your robots.txt file blocking any of these pages?
-
Are any of these pages duplicate content?
-
Are any of the pages invalid URLs?
-
Are any of these pages canonicalized to other pages?
-
Are any of these pages 301'd to other pages?
-
How well is your site's navigation working? Sitemaps help Google find island pages and such, but your site will be crawled much better with proper navigation along with both internal and external links.
-
How popular is your site and these pages? Pages with good PA are crawled regularly and sites with high DA are crawled more frequently and deeper then other sites.

I'm just wondering how to do go about fixing these? I ses that they are not valid. Also once fixed do you think this will solve the sitmap issue? (like are these 8 not valid pages causing 600+ pages not being indexed) thanks.

The links in your reply are not valid. Try clicking on one of them. They are to your secure Google WMT page and they have an extra http:// prefix.

You need to click on the sitemap in Google WMT and it will inform you of the issue. There are many possible causes ranging from the sitemap link not being accessible to the file not being formatted correctly.

Automate XML Sitemaps
Quick question, which is the best method that people have for automating sitemaps. We publish around 200 times a day and I would like to make sure as soon as we publish it gets updated in the site map. What is the best method of updating a sitemap so it gets updated immediately after it is published.

Webmaster Tools Verification Problem
Hello, Somehow a website I'm working on has lost it's verification in Webmaster Tools. I have absolutely no clue why... The Google Analytics code is still working, the verification meta tag is in place, both are not working. I get an error message about Google not being able to connect to the server. I asked about any possible changes to server settings or stuff about that, but apparently nothing has changed there. The URL in question is Bivolino.com Does someone has any other ideas what I could be looking for. Thanks, Kind regards, Erik

Business Address SERP problem in Google- What DO?
Hi Guys, I have a business at "30 Auto Center Dr, Irivne, CA" when I search for "30 Auto Center Dr" Google search results will show a map result for 30 auto center dr, Tustin CA. It will show this map result for all surrounding cities and will only show Irivne, if I set my location to irvine. I'm not sure why this is happening. Cities that are closer to Irvine are also showing a map to the address located in Tustin. Since Google is choosing to display this map result, I feel that this is causing me to lose customers. I have already done business listings and local seo to my current address, and was wondering if it would be worth it to change my address (My building has more than one address). Would this even be a good idea? What do you guys think are my options here? attached is the screenshot of the map result I am talking about. 1ywIMVt.png

Google webmaster showing 0 indexed, yet I can see them all them Google search?
I can see them all the pages showing up in Google when i search for my site. But in webmaster tools under the sitemaps section in the indexed pages - the red bar is showing 0 indexed pages, even though they seem to be indexed. Any idea why is this showing like this? I don’t really think it’s that important as the pages are still indexed, but it just seems odd. Please see in the image.

0 Google Backlinks
A sudden drop in the number of google backlinks. Earlier this month I had 15 google backlinks and now all of a sudden I have none. My google impression has also dropped drastically, my website's average is 10000 impression per day and now we have none. I have increased the crawler's speed on the website, would this be the cause of it? 4pmdesign.com

Partial mobile sitemap
Hi, We have a main www website with a standard sitemap. We also have a m. site for mobile content (but m. is only for our top pages and doesn't include the entire site). If a mobile client accesses one of our www pages we redirect to the m. page. If we don't have a m. version we keep them on the www site. Currently we block robots from the mobile site. Since our m. site only contains the top pages, I'm trying to determine the boost we might get from creating a mobile sitemap. I don't want to create the "partial" mobile sitemap and somehow have it hurt our traffic. Here is my plan update m. pages to point rel canonical to appropriate www page (makes sure we don't dilute SEO across m. and www.) create mobile sitemap and allow all robots to access site. Our www pages already rank fairly highly so just want to verify if there are any concerns since m. is not a complete version of www?

Magento - Google Webmaster Crawl Errors
Hi guys, Started my free trial - very impressed - just thought I'd ask a question or two while I can. I've set up the website for http://www.worldofbooks.com (large bookseller in the UK), using Magento. I'm getting a huge amount of not found crawl errors (27,808), I think this is due to URL rewrites, all the errors are in this format (non search friendly): http://www.worldofbooks.com/search_inventory.php?search_text=&category=&tag=Ure&gift_code=&dd_sort_by=price_desc&dd_records_per_page=40&dd_page_number=1 As oppose to this format: http://www.worldofbooks.com/arts-books/history-of-art-design-styles/the-art-book-by-phaidon.html (the re-written URL). This doesn't seem to really be affecting our rankings, we targeted 'cheap books' and 'bargain books' heavily - we're up to 2nd for Cheap Books and 3rd for Bargain Books. So my question is - are these large amount of Crawl errors cause for concern or is it something that will work itself out? And secondly - if it is cause for concern will it be affecting our rankings negatively in any way and what could we do to resolve this issue? Any points in the right direction much appreciated. If you need any more clarification regarding any points I've raised just let me know. Benjamin Edwards
