Hosting and Domains in the US

Hello,
In the UK I have my domains hosted with a company and my hosting with another company.
I can change the DNS so the domain works with the webhosting.
Can this be setup in the USA in the same way or does the hosting and domain need to be with the same company?

I went away on holiday and came back today to find a confusion with our IT Department and external Web Developers.
They stopped transferring a website because they couldn't find the setting in the 1&1 control panel.
The IT Department mentioned the USA doing things differently so instead of going with my gut reaction I thought I would post here and see if there is a difference. I know that to get hosting on a US server you need a US billing address so thought there might have been a regulation with nameservers too.

you are in no doubt correct Simon, but i woonder if the IT people were talking of somthing else.
i wonder if they mean that the domain being registered in the UK, and pointing to the US would have a affect on geo location i the eyes of google.
I just cant see why the IT staff would say such a thing, unless there is a mis-understanding. -

If you'd like to provide your IT department with even more reassurance (via Rackspace US), check out the first paragraph of http://www.rackspace.com/apps/support/portal/1164 which shows that in the US, you can have your domain(s) registered with one registrar and your website hosted with another.

Yes you can, domain & nameserver settings are global, so you can have the same kind of configuration that you have in the UK in many different countries.
Some hosting providers may not like this though as they'd prefer everything to be hosted through and done with them.
Check out http://www.godaddy.com/tlds/info.aspx?tld=info&ci=16860 and http://help.godaddy.com/article/668?locale=en&app_hdr=0 which shows that with GoDaddy you can certainly do this.

Hello, Our product pages are ranked #1 on google for our target keywords using our domain e.g. www.olddomain.com/cases/productxyz and sell about 20 products all ranked #1. We have a new company called www.newco.com/case/product1, 2, 3 etc. We use woocommerce e-commerce for both old and new sites. What is the best way to list our old co-products on our new site and move over the #1 rankings? Directing a domain.com/BLOG to a different host

i cant seem to figure out how to approach this matter. we have a website and a domain setup in one place and we wanted to setup a blog for that website on a different hosting, what do i have to do to link between the two to make it so when a user type domain com /blog he will get to our blog that is hosted on a different hosting plan? with the blog hosting plan we received a temporary domain that does not expire but i have been told that if i redirect to that temporary domain it wont work correctly also, if we do manage to go through that process will accessing the blog will the URL show domain com/blog or will still show the temporary given domain? is my only option is buying a new domain and just link between the two? Live website is an addon domain - Need site old development url inaccessable from live domain
Hi everyone, I have a website which is built in Joomla 2.5. The development site is located at www,abc.com/subdomain/. We have set the site live using an addon domain which is www.xyz.com. The problem is, www.abc.com/subdomain/ is still accessible and being crawled by Google. How is the best way to make the development url inaccessible? Any help would be appreciated!

Unable to set preferred domain, can I verify a site that's already redirected?
I'm in the process of trying to set a preferred domain in webmaster tools -- to set our www version as preferred vs. the non www. version. IT is already redirecting non-www to www, but I get this message when trying to change settings "Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://mnn.com/. Please verify http://mnn.com/." While we own the domain, I am not sure how we can have Google access a file at [http://mnn.com/some_file when we are forwarding all requests for non-www to our www site.

Note: The apache rewrite predates me and I'm not sure how / why we have two domains set up, but I'm trying to fix the preferred domain now.Am I able to verify the non version once the redirect is in place.Any ideas??? Help???Thanks!Lisa0 -
So apparently SEO moz will get us de-indexed according to a SEO company!
Each and every day i get called up from an SEO company who promises to get me top spots in Google rankings if i quickly get on their special offer they have today normally i would say "no thanks and put the phone down" but i had a bit of spare time so i indulged the guy and we got talking. After the introductions and speal about his company he was showing me what his company does and how they go about it to get me top ranks (they don't get me ranks but create a website they own which then passes leads to me- kinda clever since they could then start charging me per lead or my competitors) We continued to talk and i mentioned i used SEOmoz to check my rankings and back links etc and he told me that Google are cracking down and anyone using these types of software/websites will get their websites de indexed. This struck me as BS but i wanted to get your thoughts on the matter, i personally don't believe Google would ever do such a thing as this since it would be so easy to get your competitors websites taken down (i.e. negative seo) but its certainly a talking point.

Can SEO Moz perform a full site crawl and provide a report showing all URLs within an existing domain?
We are conducting a site redesign and need to get an idea of all pages that are out there on our domain (in some report fashion). This would help for discovery and cleanup as we re-work the site and move to a new CMS. Thanks
