  • I have a very large site and I'm not sure what all to include on the sitemap page. We have categories such as items1, items2 and in the items1 category are 100 vendors with their individual vendor pages.  Should I link all 100 vendor pages on the sitemap or just the main items1 category?

  • Hi, I'm new to link building. I have done some research of my competitors and have found that many of them are being linked to sites like this http://www.worldofwondersvu.com/ As you can see, this website looks like a business website, but if you view the content, it's spammed with external links. I'm just wondering what method they are going about to get these links, because most of the websites that are linking to them are simular to the one I posted above! Thanks 🙂

  • I have TLD that has authority and a number of micro-sites built off of the primary domain. All sites relate to the same topic, as I am promoting a destination. The primary site and each micro-site have their own CMS installation, but the domains are mapped accordingly. www.regionalsite.com/ <- primary
    www.regioanlsite.com/theme1/ <- theme 1
    www.regioanlsite.com/theme2/ <- theme 2
    www.regionalsite.com/theme3/ <- theme 3 Question: Should my XML site map for Webmaster Tools feed all sites off of the primary domain site map or are there penalties for this? Thanks.

  • Let's say I have a post where I show 25 different wood textures. I start the post with a small paragraph and then I show several images of wood textures linked to an internal or external page. Since I don't use a text link, then I have to rely on alt tags. It would be very difficult to assign a different alt tag to so many similar images, and I guess there would be a risk of keyword stuffing (walnut wood, oak wood, etc). On the other side, if I assign the same tag to all images, then that clearly is keyword stuffing (alt=wood textures). This is just an example, but it applies to most of my posts. What do you think I should do with the alt tags? Thanks!

  • My clients website is an e-commerce based website, where customers can go on and buy products etc from the website. I placed the website onto seomoz and it cam eback with something like 18,000 errors, mostly 404 client errors, when I checked to see what the URL was from, it was a summary of an order to a client who just purchased something from the website, this was the case for alot of the errors. So i am wondering, will this harm the site's optimisation or any other part of it? and how can I get rid of these errors? Many Thanks Charlene

  • In need of some second opinions here. I have a domain softboxsystems.co.uk which ranks for the keyword sofrigam. It is not meant to! Have posted previously on this but to cut long story short, the clients .com started to rank for this term and then they lost the contract to supply the services so got a legal request to stop ranking for it (it had been seoed so was ranking 100% on off page issues). The client is a UK company so they decided that they would block the .com from google and use the co.uk domain for a period of time instead while they worked on deranking the domain. The .com domain was therefore blocked from the index, the .co.uk homepage would not rank for anything then it turned out that they had placed a canonical tag link from the .co.uk to the blocked .com!!! On my suggestion this was removed and the homepage of the .co.uk appeared in google in a matter of a couple of days (other pages on the site were indexed but not the home). Now, somehow the co.uk domain homepage is ranking for the banned term. I have checked open link and there are not any links pointing to the domain with the anchor of sofigram, nor is the term mentioned onsite. I now have the client panicking on the phone to get the page out of google again asap before the competitors legal people get wind of it. I am still trying to deindex the .co.uk homepage in the short term. I have readded the canonical back to the .com as that worked at not getting that page indexed previously. The main issue I have is how on earth I am ranking for this term in the first place and  more importantly how do I stop from ranking for this term! The only terms I can find as anchor text in the moz tools are the keywords I have been seoing for help hehe thanks

  • Hi Guys, One area of my link building that I carry out is looking for online directories and social bookmarking websites to submit my website to. I do this in order to gain some backlinks to my website. What I want to know is are they really worth my time, and if so, which types would you say are the most important? I have obviously been through many directory lists, both on SEOmoz and on other websites, and also performed various searches to find relevant directories to my website. I just feel that posting up a link that lies deep in a directory online that, more often than not, have very low PA and lots of outbound links will offer very little in terms of SEO. If anything, this could really bring down the quality of my links and be detrimental to my website, right? This is a subject that I have been thinking about for a while and especially with the recent algorithm update from Google and the attack on many web directories that are, lets say, 'not playing by the rules', I'm worried that this will have a negative impact for my website. Let me know your thoughts guys and if you have any tips on how to get higher quality links from these kind of submission then I'm all ears! Matt.

  • I'm using Wordpress to create websites and blogs. I have limited (non-existent) HTML Coding knowledge. I'm looking to insert tables within my pages with information. Inside of these tables I want certain names to link to another page with more specific information about that name. I'm using a plugin called "WP Tables Reloaded" it simple helps you to create aesthetically pleasing tables without needing to know HTML Code or CSS. The issue is... when you create this table and insert it to the post, the only thing that shows on the sites back-end page is the table I.D. and the only thing that shows in the HTML is the tables I.D. It looks like this... [table id=2 /] I don't think search engines will be able to crawl this table, thus I won't be receiving any credit for the links being used within the table. Am I right about this?

  • We are in the process of upgrading our blogging capability. Our preference would be to host a Wordpress blog under our site url.  However due to our technical set up we've found out that it isn't possible to put Wordpress onto our servers so we'll need to go with a hosted version. Does anyone have any idea or examples of how this could affect our SEO performance? Also - is Wordpress the best tool - seems to be the most popular! Thanks. Jon

  • Hi, This has been discussed to death over the web on many forums, some discussions are even very heated arguing both sides. So... from what I have read on seomoz the answer to this question is... YES. And if one was so inclined to build bad backlinks to a competitor it would have a negative effect. Agree?

  • Hello there, We have a company website: http://www.parklanechampagne.co.uk/ and a Wordpress blog: http://www.alastairharrison.me/ and I would like the blog on the subfolder http://www.parklanechampagne.co.uk/blog so that we get maximum SEO benefit from updating this regularly (I understand this would be better than putting it on a subdomain blog.parklanechampagne.co.uk?). The Wordpress blog is hosted externally but I was after some advice on how we can move this blog to the parklanechampagne/blog subfolder? Any help gratefully received - I've asked several SEO and web agencies this question and had a lot of contrasting replies! Many thanks, Jon

  • Hi There, We pay for our site (www.residentialland.com) to appear on a popular property site: http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/ When I use Open Site Explorer, it is our top link, but it has 'no follow' above it. So I had a look at the source code on the homesandproperty website and I cant see any nofollow code that would effect our link. I also used this tool which confirmed it isnt classed as a no follow link: http://www.seorankings.com/tools/nofollow-link-checker Can anyone else tell me if our paid for link on homesandproperty is a no follow, or if it is 'search engine friendly' so to speak? We pay for links across their site, so we want to get the full benefit. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Rob

  • Hi Newbie SEO here.... I converted quite a massive site to wordpress (www.yourbusinesschannel.com). For a number of reasons, over 1000 pages were not converted and the URLs could not easily be preserved in any event I am now going to add these pages back by importing a large CSV into wordpress. However what is the best way to tell google that the pages are now back and at new addresses? Is it to submit a site map and get the site recrawled from scratch?

The section in question is highlighted in the attached image. Thanks in advance! MqdoW MqdoW.png

  • Hi, I know this has been asked a few times before but I want to clarify everything my own head. We've recently relaunched a website for a client that combined three existing sites into one. The new site is http://www.gowerpensions.com/ I've added 301 rewrite rules to the three old domains to to point to the correct page on the new website, i.e the old contact page goes to the new one, the about page to the new about page etc, etc. The old domains are thehorizonplan.com, horizonqrops.com and horizonqnups.com. I've informed Google Webmaster Tools of the change. The client also has several other domains such as horizonpensions.com and qnupscheme.com. Am I correct in thinking I should not park these domains on top of the gowerpensions.com website as this will be seen as duplicate content? I don't think there is anything linking to these domains. They might not even be listed in Google. With the thehorizonplan.com, horizonqrops.com and horizonqnups.com domains there are existing links to them, but will parking these on top of gowerpensions.com cause a problem, or should I keep my 301 redirects forever? Would a better strategy be to make microsites on all of the satellite domains that link to the main one to create more relevant links? If this is the case then I'd need to fix any third party links to the old horizon domains. I hope that makes sense. Thanks Ric

  • I hope there's some hardcore Analytics shark out there, with a quick reply 🙂 I am setting up a store with multiple languages for a client and need to be able to track multiple sub-domains as a multiple languages in analytics. Example: dk.somedomain.com -> Danish language
    www.somedomain.com -> English language
    no.somedomain.com -> Norweigen language
    .. and so on Now what the client would like is to have one single entity with multiple profiles in analytics, like this: somedomain.com
    -> www.somedomain.com
    -> dk.somedomain.com
    -> no.somedomain.com
    ex.. So if the client want's to see stats for the English language then he just vlivks the www profile and in case of danish he clicks the dk profile and so on.
     problem here is I can't find an analytics help that addresses this specific issue. I have found this but that doesn't seem to cover it:. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

  • Hello - I'm looking for one tool that does the following and was wondering if anyone knew of such a tool? In a perfect world I would like to enter in one domain name and have a report generated that shows All Internal links, link titles, and anchor text All internal broken links / redirects All images, image size and image alt, if the image alt is missing. I'd love to be about to export these reports to excel and quickly run my on page optimization. The goal is to produce a checklist for a developer to execute quickly. Thanks for your help Gabe

  • Hello, We are using WP for our blog and keep getting Dup Page Title errors for our 12 author archives pages. The title of each page is the same, but I am wondering if this is WP issue with canonicalization working properly. The most recent four pages have a linking root domain and carry some Page Authority, but the older pages do not. Is this what Rand was talking about in his Google+ whiteboard Friday talk about blog post relevancy not lasting as long as articles? Here's what it looks like. Side question, is there a reason why the SEO Moz website doesn't have a Google+ button anywhere easy to find? Thank you, Michael

  • Whilst there have been quite a few q & a's and one or two posts on the blog about the google onslaught on "unnatural" links, with over 1 million sites impacted I'm surprised Moz hasn't said more about this. With google now muddying the waters even further about what is natural or not (with due respect to Moz, if you're not a brand like Moz, the vast majority of seo's buy some links one way or the other) with all the uncertainty, how is it now possible to trust any metrics about links ? In essence, does Domain Rank and Domain Trust now mean anything in the new google world and can they be relied upon ? No doubt someone will come back and say that a lot don't buy any links. Fair enough but the reality is that most do some kind of deals for links, writing in niches like law it is very difficult to get people to share content. Simply a fact. The Serps are in a mess. Google has replaced many decent sites who played the game to one degree or another, with a lot of sites that are worthless, not bothering with links or content,, so rising by default ! Directory sites seem to be doing better again, because, you guessed it, they are brands like yell.

The structure starts like this: (URL 1) ties.com/black-ties Then when you narrow your search you get this: (URL 2) ties.com/animal-print**+**black-ties (notice + sign) My question: how does Google see URL 2?
