  • Hi there, We operate about a dozen websites that are part of the same parent company. All these websites are in the same vertical, and link among each other in the footer section. The anchor for each link is the brand name, so we are merely doing it to show what other products the parent company has to offer. My question is: do you think this is still advisable, or it might trigger a penalty? Also, what would you choose between: Sitewide footer links from each site to the other sites. A single footer link on the homepage from each site to the other sites. A presentation page on each website, one click away from the homepage, which presents the company's other websites. Thanks.

  • Excuse my ignorance but I am very new to all this. I have a new site www.sassandgrace.co.uk and am using MOZ to try and get it right first time. On OSE I am seeing different results for http://www.sassandgrace.co.uk/  and http://www.sassandgrace.co.uk  i.e with an without / ) and different results again for http://sassandgrace.co.uk These differences relate to the social page metrics but I would be keen to get one consistent reading. What do I need to do? Also, I know that I have links to the site but none are showing at all. On google console there are a couple showing but I know that there are many more. Is it just a matter of time before they are 'found' or is there something that I should be doing? Sorry for what are probably very basic questions but any help is appreciated.

  • Hi friends, We have a client in the movie review blog industry, which we are aware is highly competitive, but we have tons of content (over 10,000 unique posts) and a good team of reviewers for fresh content. I was wondering about any input on keyword variations for our SEO Title of our wordpress main categories, like "Movie Reviews". I was thinking a modification to "Latest Movie Reviews", but the competition is only slightly less, and still seems questionable for attaining eventual rankings. "Best Movie Reviews" is slightly higher than "Latest Movie Reviews" but the competition still seems tough. What would be a good long term strategy with these category pages, any suggestions?

  • I'm having trouble getting a new logo in search results.  My company, RealSelf, updated our logo over a year ago and both Google and Bing continue to show our old logo in image results.  Worst of all, this means that when people look for our logo, they find the wrong one and include that in new, external content. Here's a list of what we've tried: We've modified all the logos on our site with the new one (not including a few PDF whitepapers from before the redesign Added schema.org logo and organization markup Featured a high resolution image on our "Logos" page (top result for "RealSelf logo") Verified wikipedia has the proper image Modified all social profile logos: Twitter, Facebook, G+, etc.. Begun outreach efforts to have high ranking image results update our logo I'm wondering if there are other ideas besides getting more creative/successful with our outreach tactics?

The internal links are 'no follow' which I am getting developer to rectify. Any ideas why I cant see the 'follow' external links? Thanks in advance to those who help me out. • On this webpage, we have an interactive graphic that allows users to click a navigational element and learn more about an anatomical part of the knee or a knee malady. For example, a user could click "Articular Cartilage" and they will land on this page: http://www.neocartimplant.com/knee-anatomy-maladies/anatomy/articular-cartilage The weird thing is whether you perform a Google Search for the above URL or for a string of text on that URL (i.e. "Articular cartilage is hyaline cartilage (as opposed to menisci, which consists of fibrocartilage) on the articular surfaces, or the ends, of bones. This thin, smooth tissue lines both joint surfaces where the bones come together to form the knee. ") the following page ranks: http://www.neocartimplant.com/anatmal/knee-anatomy-maladies/anatomy/articular-cartilage.php I have two questions: 1 - Any idea on how the Googlebot is getting to that page?
2 - How should I get the Googlebot to index the correct page (http://www.neocartimplant.com/knee-anatomy-maladies/anatomy/articular-cartilage)? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Is adding video to URLs create a higher quantity/quality of incoming links than adding new text? Our firm operates a commercial real estate web site (www.metro-manhattan.com) in New York City. This niche is highly competitive. Our link profile is pretty weak. We have about 30-40 neighborhood pages among many others. These neighborhood based pages are text based. Would adding a video clip with pertinent information about these neighborhoods attract links? Basically the question is if video is effective link bait. Thanks, Alan

Image attatched... How is it possible to rank on Google Norway for spot nr.1 (page in English language) and spot nr.2 (page in Norwegian language) , when all you competitors have higher PA, DA and a lot more backlinks and better on-page optimization according to MOZ? Is there something I´m misunderstanding?

  • We're in the process of implementing hreflang markup for Canadian & US versions of a website. We've found that about half of our Canadian traffic has browsers that are set to en-us (instead of en-ca, as would be expected). Should we be concerned that Canadians with en-us browser settings will be shown the US versions of the website (as the hreflang would markup 'en-us' for the US version of the page). Our immediate thoughts are that since they're likely to be searching from Google.ca and would also have Canadian IP addresses, that this won't be an issue. Does anyone have any other thoughts here?

  • Hi everyone, I do some SEO work for a personal injury attorney, and due to his profession, he gets cold-called by every digital marketing company under the sun. He recently got called by a company that offers packages that include posting in multiple directories (all on domains they own), creating subdomains for search listings, and PR services like writing and distributing press releases for distribution to multiple media outlets. The content they write will obviously not be local. All this and more for less than $500 a month! I'm curious if any of you have any experience with companies like this and whether you consider them black hat. I realize I'm asking you to speculate on a very broad description of what they offer, but their linking strategies sound risky to me. What experiences have you had with companies like this? Do you know anyone who has ever gotten a penalty using these tactics? Thanks, in advance, for sharing your thoughts.

  • Hi all, I am working with a developer who believes OSE (Open Site Explorer) is flawed. His reasoning is that OSE shows completely different link equity and domain authority for these two URLs [company name is purposely withheld]: http://www.mydomain.com/us/ and http://www.mydomain.com/us NOTE: http://www.mydomain.com/us has been properly 301-redirecting to http://www.mydomain.com/us/ for years. The developer's argument is that the URL that is being 301-redirected shouldn't have any link equity at all, therefore OSE is flawed. Here is the response I would like to give him. Please feel free to poke holes, provide feedback or flat out correct me if I am wrong: Dear inquisitive developer, Any URL that is being linked to by another site that has link equity will get link equity passed to it. This is true even if the URL is a page that doesn't exist. What it can't do (if it doesn't exist) is then pass that link equity on to another page. Moz's OSE is showing separate link equity for the two versions of this URL because other sites have linked to both versions. The fact that one 301-redirects to the other is good and ensures that link equity from one is passing to the preferred URL. The 301-redirect does not, however, remove link equity from the first URL, but rather passes the existing link equity from one to the other. Consequently, Moz's OSE is not flawed, but rather is displaying the link equity of one URL that is benefiting the other via a 301-redirect. Sincerely, Dana

  • Hi, I'm new to using Moz, and have just got a "Low volume" API account set up. My question is, because ive not yet reached my maximum "Rows per month" limit, what behaviour happens when i reach it? Do i get an error code, if so what, and whats the status code. If not, does my account keep downloading the rows and i get charged extra (in accordance with the cost of the additional rows)? Or is the whole additional rows think like a bolt on? Basically i want to make sure i dont get charged extra each month, and i need the status code returned to handled this in my app. I couldnt see anything explicit in the documents. Cheers

  • I am trying to get all links that have a certain strings in their anchor text: I am using the python library: https://github.com/seomoz/SEOmozAPISamples/blob/master/python/lsapi.py Looking at the documentation, it says I can get the normalized anchor text by using the bit flag 8 for the LinkCols value: https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-api/mozscape/api-reference/link-metrics So I tried this: links = l.links('example.com', scope='page_to_domain', sort='domain_authority', filters=['external'], sourceCols = lsapi.UMCols.url, linkCols=8) But it doesn't return the expected 'lnt' response field or anything similar to the anchor text. How do I get the anchor text on the source URLs? I also tried 10 for the linkCols value, to get all the bit flags in the lf field as well as the anchor text. In both instances (and even with different variations of targetCols & sourceCols), this is all the fields that are returned: 'lrid', 'lsrc', 'luuu', 'uu', 'luupa', 'ltgt'

  • Hi Mozzers, Really unsure if we are missing something here, but whilst trying to set-up paid ads for some of our clients on FB we have run into a significant issue. We need to be able to allow FB to debit multiple business accounts for varying ads on different pages. However every time we try to access the ads manager to set-up a new ad, FB takes us to the individuals (the person logged in to the page) account, rather than creating an ad account for that page/business individually. What are we missing? We use Google MCC for managing our PPC campaigns and so wondered if there is anything similar we can use for FB? Or any other recommendations on how to get round this without dragging each client into the office and asking them to log-in so that we can set these up? Thanks!

  • Hey folks, I was checking out a site with the Search Console's "Fetch and Render" function and found something potentially worrisome. A big chunk of the middle of the page (the homepage) shows up as empty space in the preview render window. The site isn't doing so hot in terms of rankings, and I'm wondering if this issue is causing it (since it could indicate that 80% of the copy on the homepage is invisible to Google) A few other details: The specific content isn't showing in either view. Both the "What Google sees" and "What the visitor sees" are missing this chunk of the page The content IS visible in cached versions of the page The html for the content seems to be in the The "Fetch" part returns "Complete" as opposed to "Partial" so I don't THINK it's a matter of javascript stuff getting blocked by robots.txt This website was built using the Wordpress theme "Suco" and the parts of the page that aren't rendering are all built with the Themify Builder tool Not ALL of the Themify Builder elements are showing up as blank. There's a slider element that's rendering just fine Any ideas on what could cause whole portions of a page not to show up in Fetch and Render? Thanks!

I am using Yoast to create my page titles, but yet Moz tells me that my page titles including my actual page title tag which is 'dumfries wedding photography | Hemera Visuals' by clicking on the 'hide title' feature in wordpress will this in turn stop wordpress from automatically adding my page title and therfor bring my title length down drastically? And if so will I have to wait till google next crawls my page to see if this works? Kind Regards Cameron.

  • Hi, OK so I have a page on my website which is 24 hour emergency electrician. Please take a look here https://www.otexelectrical.co.uk/windsor-24-hour-emergency-electrician Now I am ranking OK for Windsor emergency electrician however I would like to do the same for the multiple different locations I've I could create multiple URLs with different title and description meta information and submit using site map and web master tools however I'm aware that doing this I would be creating duplicate content. Would a canonical link for each location pointing to the same page be OK to go with and if so how do I go about doing this? Do I do this by linking each area listed to the same page using rel=canonical? Or if I'm thinking this all wrong how would you suggest I did this. I'm very new to local SEO so you will probably notice in google I did origonally create multiple pages of the same content with location changes in content, meta tags etc. I realise now this was the wrong way to go about doing this hence why I've deleted these and edited my .htaccess to 301 to the same page. The location links have dropped in the rankings. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers

  • I have been compiling metrics comparing this site (http://brightandclearpools.com) with two competitors (http://www.barracudapoolservice.com/ and http://peoria-pool-service.com). Nothing is really screaming out to me why they are outranking Bright and Clear Pools. BCP has higher page and domain authority stronger citation profiles more customer reviews more content better site/on-page optimization This is for organic rankings, keyword phrase 'pool service Peoria', I am using the Peoria geomodifier in an unpersonalized search. Although the client would be using both the keyword phrase with geomodifier 'pool service Peoria' while using a device in the Peoria area. An attachment for user metrics are in the response below. Is there something I am completely overlooking? Your feedback will be so helpful. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me look into this!

  • This isn't a unique problem but an e-commerce client has product information on a page, with separate tabs that have been historically loaded with a new page, which have been indexed. Product (/product): 8,450 Results Content1 (/product?tab=content1): 966 results Content2 (/product?tab=content2): 683 Results Content3 (/product?tab=content3): 1,750 Results Content4 (/product?tab=content4): 1,500 Results All of the content shares a common product top section (summary of information) but has unique canonical url definitions, meta information, etc. The individual content tabs are all part of a larger grouping, which is why their index level is considerably less than the actual product page. As the client grows and updates this historical practice, one of the implementation options is making the content available on the page via an Ajax load. The desire would be to maintain the ability to search for content1, content2, etc at that level and not spread the juice throughout all the main product pages. My question is what would the best setup be to maintain the historical ability to target the content individually via Search, while updating the UI/UX for a better customer experience? If the ajax route is the way to go, what are all the tasks necessary to properly handle without creating a separate duplicate pathing? Some of the tasks that I've outlined would be Using pushState to update the url when the tab is changed Is there an ability to also update canonicals & meta information? what else am I missing? Any guidance would be great as Id love to get some thoguhts on the matter. Thanks!

  • Hi Each month I export my data from WMT and go through analytics. I also export our non brand queries from analytics and not WMT - I haven't had an issue before, but this month the impression data is quite different. In the hundreds of thousands different for keywords, everything seems to have taken a big jump and it seems strange. However, not everything is different, I've spot checked some and its; consistent in both, I'm not sure what's going on? One example would be: <colgroup><col width="281"> <col width="72"></colgroup>
    | industrial shelving | 1016 |
    | industrial racking | 999 | These appear as impressions from Query data in analytics, but they appear nowhere in my WMT query data. Analytics query data shows: | industrial equipment | 670 | WMT Data: | industrial equipment | 143 | Anyone have any idea? Perhaps some kind of tracking issue? Also I've triple checked dates etc...

  • Hi guys, we have a client that we are having some issues with.  We have done extensive directory work for them, so this is unusual.  Their Google My Business profile isn't ranking hardly at all, although they have decent organic rankings.  Here is the company: https://plus.google.com/+ComfortAireHeatingCoolingPlumbingWisconsinRapids/about We have two possible reasons, but before we spend the time fixing these we were hoping for some reassurance from the Moz community. 1)Name in GMB looks spammy.  This truly is their name, but we thought it may be an issue due to the keywords. 2)Address inconsistency:  The client wanted us to use 880 Highway 73 South, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494 so that is how we submitted it to aggregators and directory sites.  Google didn't accept that, they changed it to: 880 WI-73 Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494.  The USPS Zip code checker didn't accept either of these, they use 880 STATE HIGHWAY 73 S, WISCONSIN RAPIDS WI 54494. Do you guys think one of these is our issue, or could it be something else.  Thanks in advance for your insights!

  • Hello everybody. Is there way in Google analytics to create report on what goals have been completed per each source? Example: Lets say I have 3 goals: Subscription, Purchase, Quote. How can I get report, saying something like this: google / organic - Subscription - 5 conversions
                                 Purchase     - 3 conversions
Quote          - 10 conversions and so on. P.S. Basically, I want the reverse of standard Google Analytics goal completions report, where you can click on goal and see which sources/mediums completions came from. I'd like to do the opposite - "click" on source/medium and see which goals have been completed. Thanks

  • Bit of a weird case, but let me explain. We use unbounce.com to create our landing pages, which are on a separate sub-domain (get.domain.com).
Some of these landing pages have a substantial amount of useful information and are part of our content building strategy (our content marketers are able to deploy them without going through the dev team cycle). We'd like to make sure the seo page-juice is counting towards our primary domain and not the subdomain.
(It would also help if we one day stop using unbounce and just migrate our landing page content to our primary website). Would it be an SEO faux-pas to do the following:
    domain.com/awesome-page ---[302]---> get.domain.com/awesome-page
get.domain.com/awesome-page ---[rel=canonical]---> domain.com/awesome-page My understanding is that our primary domain would hold all the "page juice" whilst sending users to the unbounce landing page - and the day we stop using unbounce, we just kill the redirect and host the content on our primary domain.

  • Hello, I have noticed in Adwords, when I select San Francisco or San Francisco county as a location for the campaign, it shows the reach as 7,220,000 Now I know that reach may be different from census data and depends largely on number of google signed-in users. But this number is waaay of. According to census there are only about 850,000 people in SF county, lets add as much that commute to SF for work, then we still have only 1,700,000 - not even close to 7,220,000 google is reporting. Also note that for the rest of the Bay Area counties the Adwords reach numbers match very closely census data. Any ideas?
