    We just started advertising on the web version of our local newspaper.  They suggest our ads go to a "splash page" they created for us on their site.  The page haslinks , images and text taken from each of  our main categories,. Plus links and feeds from our twitter and facebook pages. And a google map. This page shows a page authority 1 with 0 links. Is there any reason to link our ad to a page like this rather than going direct to our website page? Thank you Handcrafter

Which kind of means if the sight your working on has no images then this type of enhancement is out of bounds? Thanks in advance, David

    If you embed a YouTube video on your page, does Google count that as part of their site speed calculation. Since it is in a iFrame, I would think that it is not counted.

    A lot of my top pages point to images in a gallery on my site. When I click on the url under the name of the jpg file I get an error page not found.     Hello, we are having quite a big amount of content on internal pages which can only be accessed as a registered member. What are the different options the get this content indexed by Google? In certain cases we might be able to show a preview to visitors. In other cases this is not possible for legal reasons. Somebody told me that there is an option to send the content of pages directly to google for indexation. Unfortunately he couldn't give me more details. I only know that this possible for URLs (sitemap). Is there really a possibility to do this for the entire content of a page without giving google access to crawl this page? Thanks Ben

    What are the best practices for getting links to my site indexed in search engines.  We have been creating content and acquiring backlinks for the last few months.  They are not being found in the back link checkers or in the Open Site Explorer.  What are the tricks of the trade for imporiving the time and indexing of these links? I have read about some RSS methods using wordpress sites but that seems a little shady and i am sure google is looking for that now.  Look forward to your advice.

    Hi I have been approached to do some SEO work for a site that has been hit badly by the latest panda update 3.3, they have also had a warning in their Google webmaster tools account saying they had unnatural looking links to their site, they received this in 26 Feb and that prompted them to stop working with their excising seo company and look for a new one. Apparently their rankings for the keywords they were targeting have dropped dramatically, but it looks like just those they were actively building back links for, other phrases do not look affected. Before I take them on I want to be clear that it is possible to help them reclaim their rankings? I have checked the site and the on-page seo is good, the site build is good, just a few errors to fix but the links that have been built by the seo company are low quality with a lot of spun articles and the same anchor text so I see what the Google webmaster tools message is refuring to. I do not think these links can be removed as there is no contact details on the sites I checked I have not checked all of them but a random sample does not show promise, they are from low authority domains. So if I am to take them on as a client and help them to regain their previous rankings what is the best strategy? Obviously they want results yesterday and from our phone call they would rather someone else did the work than them, so my initial response of add some better quality content that others in your industry would link to as a reference did not go down well, to be fair I think it is a time issue there are only 3 people in the company and they are not technical at all.     I understand the concept of linking your pages internally to help  pass juice to one another but it seems to me that the navigation bar with links to your main pages that appear on every page kind of eliminate the linking strategy. For Example: At the top of every page is a Home, About, Services, Contact, etc. Do the bots count these as links from each page? There must be something I'm missing here! Help me out guys!

    Hello, I currently have two domains showing up in google search: shwoodshop.com shop.shwoodshop.com These domains are currently ranked in the #2 and #3 spot, however my page is much more trafficked than the current #1 ranking.  I am wondering if the fact that I have two domains competing for the #1 spot is hurting my search ranking.  If so, what is the best way to remedy this issue and get back my #1 spot? I'm rather new to SEO and teaching myself as I go, so I appreciate the feedback!

    Hey team, Just wondering if there's anyone out there that may have dabbled with YouTube closed captions and if having them has any effect at all on search results. My theory (unfounded) is that perhaps these files can be crawled (or viewed) by crawlers and/or given priority in search due to having indexible content which defines the content within the clip - which otherwise wouldn't have been known. Now, I have no evidence that this may be the case but wondering if anyone out there may have seen or read something about it. Seems like kind of a cool thing for SE's to do to help promote accessibility across teh web. Thanks guys.

    I started receiving a warning warning in google webmaster tools about 2 weeks ago that said "big traffic change for top url". On reading the message i saw "Search results clicks for http://goo.gl/EyhUJ have decreased significantly".  When I search google using the keyword "sore breasts" for which that post used to rank at least number 2 on google, I dont see anything. The related post http://goo.gl/vP025 is still ranking well. Can anyone give me an idea of what might have happened? I am totally at sea. Thanks.

    We have a company with 2 offices, 1 on each coast. I was wondering what would be the best way to create a google+ business page for this to maximize them? We'd like to show a nationwide presence with 2 offices. Are there any downsides to picking any 1 of these? To clarify, there are 3 choices: local business, brand, and company. Which of the 3 would you recommend for a company with a nationwide presence and 2 offices?

    I currently own the domain lionseo.com and I also own the .co.uk variant some of the keywords I am targeting will have UK in them. My thoughts are that a .co.uk may help improve rankings on google.co.uk and click through + have a keyword match in the home page URL. **Do you guys think it's worth swapping to the .co.uk domain from .com? ** Thanks in advance 🙂 Keith

    We have an e-commerce site, and we use Google Analytics. We have created a "sales" goal + the funnel. Our funnel has the following structure: shopping cart - register - login - address - shipping - payment method - confirmation - sales This helps us track "goal abandonment". But we're also interested in tracking "shopping cart abandonment". For example we can see that 100 visitors enter the shopping cart, and 80 of them proceed to register or other steps in the funnel. This means that 20% left the car (shown by a red arrow in Google Analytics). Is there other way to see how many people left the shopping cart without proceeding to any of the other steps in the funnel, for example, people that closed their browsers or went to a page in the site not included in the funnel? I know I'm missing something here... Thanks!

For example they could buy some links and get caught or engage in black hat tactics without our knowledge. Is there anything that can be done to minimize any such risk?

Totally confused as to why this might be. I know Matt Cutts hinted at algo change in 2 months. Our rankings are still steady.     Wordpress Category pagination causes duplicate page title errors (ie. when there are so many posts in the category, it paginates them), is this a problem?  Your tool is reporting it as a problem...  but ProPhoto (my Wordpress provider say it is not a problem).     Hi, I have a client's site that posts job openings. There is a main list of available jobs and each job has an individual page linked to from that main list. However, at some point the job is no longer available. Currently, the job page goes away and returns a status 404 after the job is no longer available. The good thing is that the job pages get links coming into the site. The bad thing is that as soon as the job is no longer available, those links point to a 404 page. Ouch. Currently Google Webmaster Tools shows 100+ 404 job URLs that have links (maybe 1-3 external links per). The question is what to do with the job page instead of returning a 404. For business purposes, the client cannot display the content after the job is no longer available. To avoid duplicate content issues, the old job page should have some kind of unique content saying the job is longer available. Any thoughts on what to do with those old job pages? Or would you argue that it is appropriate to return 404 header plus error page since this job is truly no longer a valid page on the site? Thanks for any insights you can offer.

    I just helped a client redesign and launch a new website for their organic skin care company (www.hylunia.com). The site is built in Magento which by default creates MANY urls for each product. Which of these two do you think would be the best to use as the canonical version? http://www.hylunia.com/pure-hyaluronic-acid-solution 
    or http://www.hylunia.com/products/face-care/facial-moisturizers/pure-hyaluronic-acid-solution ? I'm leaning on the latter, because it makes sense to me to have the breadcrumbs match the url string, and also it seems having more keywords in the url would help. However, it's obviously a very long url, and there might be some benefits to using the shorter version that I'm not aware of. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts. Best, Daniel

    Many years ago we wrote about 60 content pages for our surfboard e-commerce website targeting all the top popular keywords. Many of them generic but very keyword focused. We are now revamping our content our our site and want to move away from the generic side of things and actually rewrite all the pages to make them very useful and actually stuff our customers can really use and will find very helpful. I noticed that many times we wrote small pages less than 500 words that target similar keywords around a general theme. In looking at the analytics all the pages are getting a good amount of traffic and ranking well but im wondering would it be ok to focus on a main topic and combine similar pages if they are related? So i can take the say 60 articles and combine it down to say 10 articles and make the articles cover alot more stuff instead of just being small 500 word articles. As an example we have many surfboard models so we wrote an article for -Longboard Surfboards -Funboard Surfboards -Mini Malibu Surfboards -Retro Fish Surfboards -Womens Surfboards -Beginner Surfboards My question is could i weave these all together and write one long guide on say "Choosing The Type of Surboard you need" and cover all the board models in that article and then redirect the old pages to point to that one article. Would i still rank well for all these words Or would this destroy all my current rankings for these words? What is the best approach to rewriting and or combining old content pages that currently rank well but could be combined with others around the same theme to make it more user friendly?

    I have a website that has a a dynamic URl for individual dealer landing pages - this works based on the geo-location tool on the site. When a user comes it it will recognize their location based on IP address then present the appropriate content based on zip code logic. Example URL: http://www.3mwater.com/?___store=dealer Example URL: http://www.3mwater.com/dealer/ Question: How can I best optimize each individual page for each individual dealer when the URL stays static regardless of dealer?     We're about to launch a second site for a different, neighbouring city in which we are going to setup a marketing campaign to target sales in that city (which will also have a separate office there as well). We are going to have it under the same company name, but different domain name and we're going to do our best to re-write the text content as much as possible.  We want to avoid Google seeing this as a duplicate site in any way, but what about: the business name the toll free number (which we would like to have same on both sites) the graphics/image files (which we would like to have the same on both sites) site structure, coding styles, other "forensic" items anything I might not be thinking of... How are we best to proceed with this?  What about cross-linking the sites?

    We have several links showing up as 404 errors because of the way our site is set up. I want to know if this is hurting our ranking because Google sees it as 404 errors or is it just something I can ignore because it works for the user? If it is hurting our quality and therefore our rankings, how can I correct it so that best practices are used? I have attached an image of the links and here is an example page --> http://www.sourcemedicalequipment.com/Perch-Polyurethane-Industrial-Stool-18-25-p/idst2.htm The links in the description section have anchor text "All 3 Choices" and result in a popup information page.  If you cut and paste the URL's that they are redirecting to end in a 404 but if you use the link on the page it results in a popup information window.     SEO Moz is reporting that I have 50+ pages with a duplicate content issue based on this URL: http://www. f r e d aldous.co.uk/art-shop/art-supplies/art-canvas.html?manufacturer=178 But I have included this tag in the source: rel="canonical" href="http://www.f r e daldous.co.uk/art-shop/art-supplies/art-canvas.html"/> (I have purposefully added white space to the URLs in this message as I'm not sure about the rules for posting links here) I though this "canonical" tag prevented the duplicate content being indexed? is the reporting by SEOMoz wrong or being over cautious?

    I have some blogs that I own with 10,000+ indexed pages of content. I have wondered for sometime if adding anchor text links for my clients on relevant blogs would be helpful or harmful. I realize that having an anchor text link on ONE article page in context is better than 10,000 anchor text links on my blog roll or footer, but I have been reluctant to use this strategy due to the bad press site wide and blogroll links have gotten, What has been YOUR experience with this method?

    I am trying to figure out the best way to garner the most amount of link value. We have an app that lives on a sub-domain ... For the purposes of this question, let's call it app.mydomain.com.  We provide a service with this app that requires clients (with very high ranking websites) to link into app located on the sub-domain. Would I garner more authority if had the high ranking client website link into a url that wasn't a sub-domain and redirect it using a 302? For example:  What if I created a 302 that was www.mydomain.com/app and have it redirected to the sub-domain version of app.mydomain.com? Additionally am I correct to assume that a 301 would merely pass that value to the sub domain and NOT provide much value to the root?

    For this site: www.cooperator.biz/ I see no backlinks in SEO Moz Open SiteExplorer but Majestic SEO is showing 13 unique domains linking to it. I regularly encounter zero data for sites that I know have backlinks, why is this?  If it's a problem with crawling them, why would I continue to use SEO Moz when other SEO services are showing me links?
