• Dear all, We have a call for action on the bottom of all our 10K plus pages which has the words private jet charter in it. Here is what the sentence looks like: Call +1-877-727-2538 to hire private jet charter flights or get a private jet quote The "private jet charter" link goes to the homepage - the homepage has always ranked for the same keyword. Even though we have a separate page for private jet charter itself which may or may not be competing with homepage for the same keyword. The question is - does this help our efforts to rank higher for private jet charter or does it not. It used to be that the more links from all pages for specific keyword coming back to homepage was good - but now maybe algorithms may have changed and not sure.

  • When I go to the link analysis page where ti shows how many links my site has and how many my competitors have...it shows that I have 0 links.  But Google Webmaster Tools shows my site as having 149 links.  Is this a glitch with zeomoz or whats going on? The reason I initially subscribed to seomoz was to track my links. Thanks

  • Hi, Our site contains some subsites in subdirectories. One of these sites, joins content from our partners' blogs. Now we have about 51.900 results on Google for this subsite. We are thinking about change the format of this subsite, but we are worried about the number of URL's that will be lost. The question is, the search machines will "punish" us for these losses and affect all domain ? Regards, Juan Santos

  • Hey, I have a niche website which ranked quite good in the beginning (especially image search). I published new posts every other day and also new links. Since around six months this site doesnt rank at all anymore (page 5) and I'm not sure if I should get a new domain, republish the articles and 301 all links. Would that make sense or is it better to start a new site from scratch? Thanks!

  • I would like to implement a reporting function to my website to offer a bit of value and information to potential clients. I am thinking along the lines of a simple input form to include a business name and url.  The output would be a clean, branded (my business, url, phone) report that shows opportunities, lowest lying fruit, keywords most prominent, and any errors. I found this site - http://www.analyticsseo.com/  but, it seems pretty expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on another suite that might work? Many thanks!

  • Hi Moz community! I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a site penalized or dampened because of too many exact match anchor links or know of any examples. I don't want to be overly concerned about it if it is a low risk. Thanks!

  • Hi, We are running  a campaign for a website in SEOmoz. We get a dup content issue warning: http://www.oursite.com and http://www.oursite.com/ are being seen as 2 different urls. Only difference among 2 urls is the trailing slash at the end of the second url. Why is this happening? I was aware of www vs non www but never heard of an issue related to the slash. Thanks for your help!

  • I am doing a test and would like to ask you're opinion about it in a SEO stand point : I would like to structure a website that has 3 menu links to 3 keyword rich domains names that would be structure in a Silo architecture each one related to it's own topic and not duplicating the content. Like a Cross-Domain siloing approach. Do you think it would work ? How should I build this in order to ultimately build ranking for the main site ? Do you know if I could get this approach working in a global way : Each Second level domain working for itself and propelling the main domain ? Any article, advises, Graphic, documentation, comment is welcomed !

  • We have been doing an a/b test of our hp and although we placed a rel=canonical tag on the testing page it is still being indexed.  In fact  at one point google even had it showing as a sitelink .  We have this problem through out our website. My question is: What is the best practice for duplicate pages? 1. put only a rel= canonical pointing to the "wanted original page" 2. put a rel= canonical (pointing to the wanted original page) and a no index on the duplicate version Has anyone seen any detrimental effect doing # 2? Thanks

  • I want to go in-depth about different customizations for custom caps, which is one of the products we offer. I just don't know whether it would be better--from an SEO perspective--to expand the caps sales page we already have or to write a blog post to give the site another valuable indexed page. From a user standpoint, I don't think it's as important, because if I do it the blog way, I can't just put a link on the page saying, Want more customizations? Visit our blog post. Any opinions?

  • I'm in the process of reviewing on-site URL structure on a few sites, and I've run into something I can't decide between. I am forced to choose between the two examples: MediaRoom/CaseStudies.aspx  (camel case) mediaroom/casestudies (all lower case, mashed, no dashes) I would personally rather see: media-room/case-studies/ However implementing the dashes would require manually re-writing about ~10,000 URLs. Implementing 301s from the existing structure to whatever I choose would be trivial, so there is no concern there. Given the choice between CamelCase and lower-mashed, which would you choose? Why?

If I have say 10 sites all targetting the same niche yet all on different C-class IPs with different hosts, registrars, whois data and ages can I use the same template, or will Google discern a pattern? NB/ All of the 10 sites will have unique, original content and they will NOT be interlinked

  • Hi, I was looking at BlueNile (biggest diamonds online dealer in the world) since I was wondering how they dealt with similar products and with sold products. Each diamond that is sold is unique. Once it is sold it is unavailable for sale. Also, all diamonds are VERY similar so they should also find a way to handle duplication in content. Look at the following 2 pages: http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-g-color-vs1-clarity_LD02360835 http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-g-color-vs1-clarity_LD02366155 The pages are practically identical and in the "view source" I noticed that they add a canonical tag to themselves... Any thoughts on that? Thanks

  • Hi, I have an e-commerce website that sells unique items (one of a kind). We have hundreds of items and the items are rapidly sold. Up till now I kept the sold items under our "sold items" section but it started to get back at me as we have more "sold" than non sold and we are having duplication problems (the items are quite similar besides to sizes etc.). What should we do? Should we redirect 100 pages each week? Will Google be upset with that? (for driving it crazy) Thanks

  • We are currently in the process of reviewing our site on a number of fronts, and part of that involves adding quality content to our product category pages where necessary. Our practice so far has been to add relevant content, and in this content externally link to a couple of relevant, related sites for that category (avoiding the use of keywords we are trying to rank for). Should we be doing this (externally linking)? And, if so, should these external links be NoFollow? So far, we have seen mixed results for our efforts.

  • My client wants to move from a dedicated server with unique dedicated IP address to a cloud server.  We have great rankings for competitive terms.  I believe their motivation is to cut costs.  What is the risk to the rankings in switching from dedicated to cloud? I don't believe unique static ips are available on a cloud platform. I told him I would strongly advise against it, don't risk it, but would appreciate others' feedback and experiences to take into consideration. Thanks, Greg

  • Good Afternoon from 9 degrees C wetherby UK I'm trying to get a better understanding of how search results are retrieved in Twitter. Take this scanario for instance. Via twitter search (see screen grab for illustration ) you enter Vintage Clothing. The results
show tweets where some have #Vintage #clothing in the text whilst others just have the term vintage clothing in the tweet. So my question is please... "If your client asks how do i get my tweets picked up by searchers looking for vintage clothing should i ad hash tags or not bother and just mention the term in the tweek" Put another way, why do some tweeters hash tag a key pharse and place term in the snippet. I'm, a bit confused...

  • Hi, SEOmoz found 72 occurances of my keyword 'widgets' on our front page. I'm trying to cut it down but alot of the time the keyword appears alongside the company name 'Mega Widgets' . Will Google distinguish between the use of the keyword within a typical sentence and having it alongside the company name? Or should I put in a hypen (mega-widgets) or surround the company name with quotes ("mega widgets") to tell Google its a legit combination/phrase and I'm not trying to stuff in the keyword?

  • Hi, We are building an app that requires some audience profiling of websites as part of its architecture. Alexa provides some of this info, along with visitors by country which is useful, however I am quite skeptical of the information it provides as it is well known it can be way off (particularly on smaller sites), so are there any other API's that provide better data along the same lines as Alexa? NOTE - The app will profiling websites without having their authorized logins etc, so it needs to be an API that doesn't require authorisation from the website to get the data . Many Thanks

  • I have recently built an e-commerce website for the company I work at. Its built on opencart. Say for example we have a chair for sale. The url will be: www.domain.com/best-offers/cool-chair Thats fine, seomoz is crawling them all fine and reporting any errors under them url great. On each product listing we have several options and zoom options (allows the user to zoom in to the image to get a more detailed look). When a different zoom type is selected it adds on to the url, so for example: www.domain.com/best-offers/cool-chair?zoom=1 and there are 3 different zoom types. So effectively its taking for urls as different when in fact they are all one url. and Seomoz has interpreted it this way, and crawled 10000 pages(it thinks exist because of this) and thrown up 20000 errors. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

  • Due to lack of resources, my company usually buys website templates and we adjust it internally. So we can always be with new designs, spending less money. With all this changes of google panda recently, I will change my website again. Usually we buy then from templatemonster, but some templates are far away from seo standards. Do you have tips where to buy than? Should I search for a specific technology or layout? Is this JS Animated website a goog choice?

  • I've got a site that I started back in 2001 (www.jaaroncaststone.com) to sell what I was making, concrete countertops and sinks. Well we're going to be discontinuing the concrete products in a month or so and want to start pointing all the links from the old site to a new one dedicated to a single product (www.jaaron-wood-countertops.com). I don't want to do a full 301 on the old site just yet but can I put a canonical tag on the index and about us pages pointing to the new site now so the search engines start looking that way or should I wait and do a full 301 when the day comes to pull the old site?

  • hi my website is www.in2town.co.uk which is a lifestyle magazine and for some time now i have been thinking about bringing in news from other sources but i want to know how this will affect my site. I have read that by bringing in articles from other sources which will be sources like bbc news, that it can increase visitors but i would like some advice. What i do not want is for the sites to take away my link juice and for me to drop down the rankings. I also would like people to read the news and hopefully come back to my site. any advice on this would be great.
