  • I ran www.lauriloewenberg.com/ in OSE and it shows 118 Facebook shares while we see more than that. Maybe we are doing something wrong or a setting isn't correct, I'm not sure. The site was created in WordPress. Here are 3 posts that add up to 224 shares: Post 1 114 shares Post 2 64 shares Post 3 46 shares I'm sure there are some people that are sharing multiple posts, Will that make a difference? Even if that was true the number still seems very low. Thanks 🙂

  • Would there be any benefit or penalty for implementing a links directory with over 300 external links to websites that somtimes return the link? Or would it be more beneficial to simply ask for one way inbound links when gaining links? For example this section of this website: http://directory.flyawaysimulation.com/ This is their directory and most but not all of the sites in that directory link back to them. Your ideas, thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • "Google+ members, and to a lesser extent others who are signed into Google, will be able to search against both the broader web and their own Google+ social graph. That’s right; Google+ circles, photos, posts and more will be integrated into search in ways other social platforms can only dream about." What is meant by " and to a lesser extent others who are signed into Google"  ? Does it mean that non-google plus members won't be able to view Google+photos, posts ?

  • I have been going round in circles trying to find a Hostings company with a good reputation and service etc... For ever one you find you find reviews sayings its shocking... I was planning to take a straw poll using the vote up and down function to try and spot good ones. I will add the ones I know about or use/tried. If you like just vote up. Any more suggestions for companies please add them with your views. Try and reply to the right hostings companies with reviews. Not sure if this is suitable for SEOMoz I apologise if this is not and offends anyone.

  • Hi, I have been doing "lite" SEO on my site for several years and have achieved some decent ranking for relevant terms. I have good solid content and and am simply in need of quality backlinks to boost my SERPs. I stopped doing SEO because I was focused on development of the site for about  6 months and lost about half of my traffic as a result. In the past I have used rentacoder, guru, and odesk for software development, but does anyone know the best one to find decent SEO consultant/content writers? I want to start out at about $300/month for back links and ramp up from there. Also, The last company I hired provided almost all links from India spam sites, however, I still noticed a steady increase in rankings over a few months. Thought on thats? Thanks!

  • hello again! 1st i want to thank robert, istvan and everyone else for the great answers to my last question. i guess i should have been a bit more specific with the questionas i am still a bit unclear about a couple of things. i forgot to mention that we actually moved the site several months back and redirected all the "category" pages, but, i wasnt aware that the "product" pages were never redirecte! so my next questions are: at this point is it even worth redirecting those old product pages? if so, should we use the IP address as shown below or the domain as shown below ...i am guessing at the IP address. http://72.3.181.97/catalog/CanineCushionDogCouchBeds.aspx
http://www.k9electronics.com/catalog/CanineCushionDogCouchBeds.aspx also, our old site was never deleted from the server. our ranking / sales dropped off by about 50% when the new site went live so im guessing this can be directly contributed to the products not being redirected / duplicate content from the 2 sites? im also guessing i need to find a new developer ..can i get a vote on that? 😉 <colgroup><col width="856"></colgroup>

  • Hi Guys After adhering to the On Page optimisation suggestions given by SEOmoz, we redirected some of old urls to new ones.  We set 301 redirects from the old pages to new on a page by page basis but our search engine ranking subsequently fell off the radar and lost PR. We confirmed redirection with fiddler and it shows 301 permanent redirect on every page as expected. To manage redirection using a common code logic we executed following: In Http module, using “rewrite path” we route “all old page requests” to a page called “redirect.aspx? oldpagename =[oldpagename]”.  This happens at server side. In redirect.aspx we are redirecting from old page to new page using 301 permanent redirect. In the browser, when old page is requested, it will 301 redirect to new page. In hope we and others can learn from our mistakes - what did we do wrong ?!? Thanks in advance. Dave - www.paysubsonline.com

  • Hey everyone i just came across SEOMOZ today, i have been building websites for 3 years now but SEO is something which has always been a scary topic to consider trying to master. I have made a decision to do this in 2012 and i have been looking for a software package which can stear me and teach me. I have been reading the site help today and i feel totally swamped! i have created my campaign but a lot of the results dont make much sense to me and i am unsure of how to fix the errors they found. For instance the crawl diagnostics shows i have 5 4xx client errors. They show me a link to the page where the error is http://www.mydomain.com/category/latest-news/function.require but when i go to see what this is i just find an error 404 not found page. How do i go about removing this error if i have no idea where the problem is? I have started reading SEO User guide and beginers guide and i know it is going to take me a long time to get use to this all, but i am struggling to find the starting point and hope someone can possible help me find the first few steps. Thanks

  • Hello, I ran one of our pages through the On-Page Report Card. Among the results we are getting a lower grade due to the following "critical factor" : Appropriate Use of Rel Canonical Explanation If the canonical tag is pointing to a different URL, engines will not count this page as the reference resource and thus, it won't have an opportunity to rank. Make sure you're targeting the right page (if this isn't it, you can reset the target above) and then change the canonical tag to reference that URL. Recommendation We check to make sure that IF you use canonical URL tags, it points to the right page. If the canonical tag points to a different URL, engines will not count this page as the reference resource and thus, it won't have an opportunity to rank. If you've not made this page the rel=canonical target, change the reference to this URL. NOTE: For pages not employing canonical URL tags, this factor does not apply. This is for an e-commerce site, and the canonical links are inserted automatically by the cart software. The cart is also creating the canonical url as a relative link, not an absolute URL. In this particular case it's a self-referential link. I've read a ton on this and it seems that this should be okay (I also read that Bing might have an issue with this). Is this really an issue? If so, what is the best practice to pass this critical factor? Thanks, Paul

  • Hi, When I first start researching a site, I like to see what Google "thinks" it is relevant to. I use the Google KW Tool and enter the website URL only. I sort the results by relevance. I can then show the prospective client what Google thinks his site is optimized for and use that info to show him what opportunities exist to rank for terms more relevant to his business. I show him keyword, volume and I also get current SERP rank for his site. For larger sites, I do this for the top pages based Domain Authority. I want to automate this process using excel and APIs but Google refused my API token request. I told them I wanted to use the "Google AdWords API Extension for Excel" from http://seogadget.co.uk/google-adwords-plugin-excel. The Google API token team replied: Please note, after reviewing your application in detail, we are sorry to let you know that we won't be able to approve your token. We understand that you are planning to use the AdWords API mainly for Targeting Idea Service (TIS) and Traffic Estimation Service (TES) such as 'keyword research'. Please note that as per the Required Minimum Functionality (RMF) outlined in the API Terms & Conditions, using the AdWords API exclusively for TIS and TES type of services is not allowed. Q1: What does the KW Tool relevancy data mean, anyway? Q2: is there another way to get it or is there another way to do this? Q3: Is there a better approach I should take with the Google API team? Q4: Are there other APIs and Excel plugins that can do this, including the SEOMoz APIs? Thanks,
    Phil

  • I got a great question from a franchise owner today regarding Google Places for his business. His businesses are all in malls. With Google Places there is an emphasis on using consistency and full contact details, as we well know. The issue is his locations are in a mall and don't have a physical address to receive mail or verify their address. Is there a way to leverage Google Places in this kind of situation, or do you just use the general mall address?

  • So far here's my algorithm: I will make an excel spreadsheet with all of our currently optimized keywords (about 300 I believe) I will grab all the keywords possible out of the adwords keyword tool I will merge the adwords keyword tool keywords with the 300 on the excel spreadsheet and erase the duplicates. I'll drop what's left over in exact match into a google adwords campaign I'll then use the + modifier with brand names and with two word keywords such as +brand +keywords +here Will this algorithm find all of the keywords, or am I missing something?

  • SEOMOZ say's: I have six (6) duplicate pages. Duplicate content tool checker say's (0) On the physical computer that hosts the website the page exists as one file. The casing of the file is irrelevant to the host machine, it wouldn't allow 2 files of the same name in the same directory. To reenforce this point, you can access said file by camel-casing the URI in any fashion (eg; http://www.agi-automation.com/Pneumatic-grippers.htm). This does not bring up a different file each time, the server merely processes the URI as case-less and pulls the file by it's name. What is happening in the example given is that some sort of indexer is being used to create a "dummy" reference of all the site files. Since the indexer doesn't have file access to the server, it does this by link crawling instead of reading files. It is the crawler that is making an assumption that the different casings of the pages are in fact different files. Perhaps there is a setting in the indexer to ignore casing. So the indexer is thinking that these are 2 different pages when they really aren't. This makes all of the other points moot, though they would certainly be relevant in the case of an actual duplicated page." ****Page    Authority                                                                               Linking Root Domains http://www.agi-automation.com/                                        43                                   82 http://www.agi-automation.com/index.html                    25                                     2 http://www.agi-automation.com/Linear-escapements.htm                                                                  21                                 1 www.agi-automation.com/linear-escapements.htm    16                                  1 http://www.agi-automation.com/Pneumatic-grippers.htm                                                                                                                                                         30                             3 http://www.agi-automation.com/pneumatic-grippers.htm     16                     1**** Duplicate content tool estimates the following: www and non-www header response; Google cache check; Similarity check; Default page check; 404 header response; PageRank dispersion check (i.e. if www and non-www versions have different PR).

  • Hello, I have a local business and have been working on getting backlinks for highly relevant keywords. I have keyword optimized pages (keyword in URL, title, H1, etc) but I have been sending backlinks to the homepage, as these keywords represent the core of what we offer. See example below: car repair car repair london auto repair auto repair london I have been sending backlinks (with the correct anchor text of course) to the homepage, am I better off sending them to the specific pages? One more thing: the SEOMOZ report talks about cannibalisation of keywords, where for example the page optimised for "car repair" links to "Car repair london". I have links to the optimised pages in a footer at the bottom of every single page on the website, is this bad practice? (considering SEOMOZ talks about cannibalisation? Should I do something else instead (or eliminate the footer links altogether?) I would appreciate your expert advice.

  • In general, does having a large number of meta keywords listed in a page's meta keywords line dilute effort? On other words, should I focus on optimizing for 1 or 2 keywords per page to keep my efforts focused and increase the probability of ranking better for those 1 or 2.....or should I put down all the keywords I would "like" to rank for? Thank You

  • We recently had a redesign of our website and moved it from a static html site to WordPress. During the development the WordPress installation sat on a sub-domain. Our programmer and designer had the privacy setting inside WordPress checked so the search engines would not crawl the pages while being developed to avoid duplicate content. Fast forward two weeks when new site replaces old. Guess what privacy setting was not fixed.  So about 3 days after the site is live organic traffic drops by 80%.  Do a little research and all of our great rankings are gone. Notice that our page rank is also gone...Hmm... Upon further inspection the noindex tag is on every page of the site. It's now removed and has been 3-4 days.  I've resubmitted inside webmaster tools and I'm just curious what y'all think the likelihood is that everything will come back to how it was before.

  • I'm a DIY seo with a video production company - our website has been given some solid foundations by an SEO friend and we are climbing nicely up the rankings.. Everyone and their dog constantly warns of not straying into black hat - and I totally understand and appreciate the reasonings.. my issue is - pretty much ALL of the competitors use what I would perceive to be pretty shady web directories. These directories seem to account for 80% of each of my competitors inbound links (according to open site explorer) If all the front page of google for "corporate video" are submitting to all these directories - should I? • Hello everyone. Here's my problem: I just searched for "link inside iframe counts for backlinking?" and on #5 there's a site that caught my attention because of it's Description Snippet. http://www.freelancer.com/job-search/iframe-links-count-backlinks/ This page is totally irrelevant to my query if you take time and read what's on it, however it ranks well. It's clever because the page contains all the required elements: one h1 with keyword in it, some short paragraph under it, similar links (totally irrelevant though), a selection of people who are supposed to be relevant to my question but they are not, all the good stuff. I looked in the source code and i found this: link href="[http://www.freelancer.com/rss/search.xml?keyword=iframe+links+count+backlinks](view-source:http://www.freelancer.com/rss/search.xml?keyword=iframe+links+count+backlinks)" rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Latest projects" Please take the time and look at this feed and you'll see something totally wrong here. Could someone please explain how this works? I'ts a total spam however they managed to trick the system... Looking forward to hearing your answers. Alex

  • Our website (noahsdad.com) has a very large and active Facebook group (http://facebook.com/noahsdadcom). Often there are more comments on the Facebook posting of a link, than on the blog post itself. I try to get people go and leave comments on the blog, but they don't get it. So I'd like to try to find a way to get Facebook comments to transfer to our site. I"m not sure the best way to do this....either via a plug in, or via these instructions https://developers.facebook.com/attachment/Comments_Best_Practices_FINAL.pdf/ I'd just like to get it going..and not mess up the comment's I have now. (Also not everyone has Facebook, so I'd like them to still be able to comment the 'old' way (name/email). Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction with this. Thanks.

  • Hi, we have an online store: http://www.redwrappings.com.au/ There's been a debate regarding which area is recognised to be the most important place/hotspot for SEO: Free delivery van area (top left panel) OR Top menu navigation Given that if you look at the page html source code, the top navigation loads last and the free delivery fan area is the first one to be read in the html source code. We did this because we want the body page content (h1 & text content) to be read first by search engine robot & also the body can load faster for the user. Is this the right thing to do or we better off load the top navigation first? Thanks

  • We recently made some updates to our site, one of which involved launching a bunch of new pages. Shortly afterwards we saw a significant drop in organic traffic. Some of the new pages list similar content as previously existed on our site, but in different orders. So our question is, what's the best way to diagnose whether this was the cause of our ranking drop? My current thought is to block the new directories via robots.txt for a couple days and see if traffic improves. Is this a good approach? Any other suggestions?

  • In my last SEOmoz rankings update one of my keywords went from 1 to not in the top 50. This keyword is my brand name. It makes no sense that SEOmoz would say that it ranks not in the top 50 when I went to check it out on Google, we're still ranked number 1. I thought that this was very odd that the ranking would be so off. Has anyone else has this issue. uALPO uALPO.png

Both Places listings need significant edits. Is there a way to re-claim these listings with new Google Accounts, in order to edit/optimize them? • Hello, Is it a viable idea to copy competitors link structure? Imagine we manage a new site with low page and domain authority.  Is okay to use the Link Tool and filter domains that link back to our competitor and then work our way up from low ranking directories and related sites? Currently I am using RoboForm and trying to 'catch up' to a competitor in terms of link backs. Additionally, I've been reading articles about whether submitting to directories is good, but if we see they have alright domain and page authorities, does it make sense to apply to them when our competitors are in them? Much appreciated
