Google Analytics: Difference Between Goal Conversions & Goal Completions
-
When using Google Analytics, what is the difference between total goal conversions and total goal completions?
We have many goals set up in a lead generation environment. Therefore, the only element of conversion is submitted a lead and arriving on the "Thank You" page. THose thank you pages are tagged accordingly.
When we run reports though, the number of "Total Goal Conversions" and "Total Goal Completions" never match up.
-
Completions: The total number of completions for the requested goal number
Total Completions: The total number of completions for all goals defined for your profile.
Conversion Rate: (ga:goal(n)Completions / ga:visits) * 100
Total Conversion Rate: (ga:goalCompletionsAll / ga:visits) * 100

Thanks for the response, Martijn. I've edited the initial Q&A post to better describe the situation we're evaluating.

Hi,
Cool question, because a similar question around the definition of one of Google Analytics metrics was discussed last weekend at the Q&A. The difference between this two metrics lies in the fact that one is related to a specific goal and one isn't:
Total Goal Conversions: "The number of goals completed by visitors.".
Total Goal Completions: "The total number of visitors who have completed all elements defined for this particular goal.".As you can see, the second definition is clearly for the completions of 1 specific goal. The other one is for all the goals combined. I have to admit that it's a bit tricky, but with this definition next to you hopefully it will help you any further!
Happy analyzing!

The best way to track internal links in Google Analytics
Hi there, we are a retail business and we have invested in quality editorial content which sits in our Blog at ourwebsite.co.uk/blog/ The Blog links to the main site (an online store) and I want to track the 'value' of the blog by how many clicks the blog content generates back to the main store. At the moment we're using this code on the end of every link in the Blog: ?utm_source=Blog&utm_medium=Widget&utm_campaign=FromBlog Does this affect SEO and is there a better way of doing it? Thanks.

Google Analytics - Events impacting session data
Hi Mozzers, Has anybody ever experienced event tracking significantly impacting session data? Here's a summary of what I'm finding: When I measure sessions to a particular hostname (a subdomain) in my Google Analytics report, sessions dropped by over 100% when I removed some event tracking on that subdomain (an event was triggered when a user clicked on a particular button). When I reinstate that event tracking, sessions go back up to around where they used to be. Can anybody understand why this might be happening? Thanks!

Google Analytics Organic Search Keywords Suddenly Displaying FulL Urls
In my Google Analytics, the top keywords for Organic Search are suddenyl displaying full URLs. For example, now the third and fourth keywords are http://www.domain.com/highly-specific-URL. These have all started recently around the same day, July 12th. I've checked back, and we've made no internal changes to the site around that time that could affect this. Any thoughts on this? Thanks! P.S. It might be related to rich snippets, but I cannot tell at this point.

Goals and Conversions in Multi-Channel-Funnel
Hi, we defined several goals in Google Analytics, and the reported amount of conversions seems to be correct. Today, I switched into the multi-channel funnel to look at assisting conversions etc.. There, the total number of conversions is higher than the amount of conversions in our goal-section (807 vs. 734). Did I miss something? I always thought the numbers should be the same? Any idea why they differ that much (time span was 14 days)... Thanx...
