The idea is that the more people are talking about something, the more popular it is and the more important. This is a life lesson and SEs are catching up to the social scene on the web.
People love to share ideas and information, but not everyone blogs. Some times we just link to other content, or share links that link to other content.
Good practice is to have a Like button on your site, each blog post, each product page, etc. And to have a Share This on each as well.
This is the Facebook Like button. I am posting because it is a bit hard to find : )

There are a lot of questions right now regarding how links will be valued by search engines and Rand's post that Mike recommended is a great place to start your research.
One other thing to consider is the power of social media to help you earn traditional links. I know that isn't what you are asking about, but it's important to think about. Twitter, Facebook, Quora, etc. can be great tools for building reputation, crafting relationships, and sharing great content with people who like to build links. As such you may get your greatest value not from the Tweets and Likes, but rather from the resulting links your social circle will create.

Will Huge bounce rate from social media visits affect SEO or website Ranking according to Google algorithm factors?
We have one website and have posted our blog post url in the social media sites and got almost 5k visits in 3 days’ time, with 11sec avg time on site, zero conversions and with 97% bounce rate. This in turn reduced the total conversion rate for the same month to less than 0.5%. According to google algorithm, these are factors affecting website ranking. Can anyone guide me whether which visits from social media affect our website in any case based on these Analytics factors? Please help me out on the same! Calculating a combined follower score for social media
I'm working on a set of social media metrics for a client, and thought of doing a follower score - sort of like a combined influence rating of all the user's followers. Has anyone done something like this before on Facebook or Twitter? Also, what would be an effective way of creating this score?

I have 3 different niches - Should I create 3 different Social Profiles/hubs?
So I have 3 completely different niches. As in B2B vs. B2C, as well as markets that are not related whatsoever. Unless your grandmother that likes to sew, just so happens to also love to demolish giant buildings (lol, I never thought about how polar opposite my niches were until I re-read that sentence). Anyways, I guess the company should also have profiles/hubs, but what about for Outreach? I feel like outreach should be done by a personal profile, since outreach is all about networking and building relationships. Any direction/help/tips here? Thanks everyone, Tyler A.

Hi Guys, I'm thinking of changing the plugin I used on my blog for people to share my blog posts on Facebook, Twitter and Google +. Is there a way on OSE or any other site to find the 50 most socially shared URLs on a given domain?
I'd love to see which URLs on a specific domain get socially shared the most. I know I can use OSE to say figure out exactly how much social sharing has happened on let's say this URL:
