404 help
-
Hello all, firstly let me apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this question.
I have a site www.promptresponseaccidentmanagement.com which gets a 200ok when checked for crawl issues, however pages such as /whiplash-injury-compensation-claims.php , /road-traffic-accident-compensation-claims.php and quite a few more return a 404. That's fine (usually) as I can quite happily fix that most of the time. However if you actually go to those pages in your browser, or click through to them on any part of the site you will see that they are in fact not redirecting to a 404 and everything is fine!?
Any body got any ideas?

Hi sorry for not replying earlier. I have finally sorted it. It appears that the wordpress PHP include tag at the top of a static pages cause 404 errors on HTTP header requests...I changed a bit of code and it sorted itself out.
thank you for taking the time to reply.

Did you get this fixed, I get 200 response codes for the pages you mention, checking with http://web-sniffer.net/.
Otherwise, I'd suggest it is an issue in your .htaccess or server setup. Are you using any kind of caching on your PHP files?
-
ok, i have just done a test and renamed a .php file to a .html file and it comes up with a 200, is this a server issue?
-
Hi thanks for replying so quickly, I have my own dedicated server which I manage other domains on, they are all working ok, do you think it could be my .htaccess file or my robots.txt?
thanks

Even though the page does render correctly, it also returns a 404 http status code (which you can verify by the firefox add-on 'HTTPfox' for example). It seems something in your website or webserver is mis-configured which is causing this incorrect http status code (404 error) to be fired instead of the 'all good' code (200) it should be firing for these pages considering they are perfectly accessible.
Have you tried contacting your technical staff or webhost about this issue

Weird 404 errors in Webmaster Tools
Hi, In a regular check with Webmaster Tools, I have noticed some weird 404 errors, for example, my domain URL is something like http://domainname.com/, the 404 error points to some weird URLs like http://domainname.com/james-bond&page=2/ and http://domainname.com/juegos-de&page=3/, at first I have tried to block them by robots.txt, but now I am getting these kind of 404 errors a lot, and don't think blocking them all is a perfect solution. Can anyone help me out with the issue? Thank you in advance.

Help: Blog post translations resulting in 404 Not Found?
A client set up a website that has multilingual functionality (WPML) and the back end is a bit of a mess. The site has around 6 translated versions of the 30 or so existing English blog posts in French, Italian and Spanish - all with their own URLs. The problem is that on the remaining 24 English blog posts, the language changer in the header is still there - even though the majority of posts have not been translated - so when you go to change the language to French, it adds **?lang=fr **onto the existing english URL, and is a page not found (4xx client error). I can't redirect anything because the page does not exist. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I have noticed it's also creating italian/french/spanish translation of the english Categories too. Thanks in advance.

Small business sites banned by google. Please help.
Hi. My 2 sites http://www.painterdublin.com and http://www.tilers-dublin.com were banned by google update in November 2012. Both were ranking fairly well in search results: painterdublin generating cca 600/month and tilers-dublin cca 300/month organic traffic from google. After update it is about 70% less. Is there anyone willing to take a look at my pages and give me some advice about what to do to improve the situation? thank you very much

Why would SEOMoz and GWT report 404 errors for pages that are not 404ing?
Recently, I've noticed that nearly all of the 404 errors (not soft 404) reported in GWT actually resolve to a legitimate page. This was weird, but I thought it might just be old info, so I would go through the process of checking and "mark as fixed" as necessary. However, I noticed that SEOMoz is picking up on these 404 errors in the diagnostics of the site as well, and now I'm concerned with what the problem could be. Anyone have any insight into this? Rich

404 appearing in Sitelinks
I am little embarresed to say that the custom 404 page is appearing in a client's Sitelinks for their brand name search term. I have demoted this page from Sitelinks for the brand term but it still appears 😞 What is the best practise for a custom 404 page appearing in a sitemap and/or being blocked by robots.txt? Thanks

Help - Rank is Continually Dropping
We are aggressively optimizing one of our internal pages for SEO related terms. http://www.arnima.com/Search-Engine-Optimization.aspx Some sample search terms are: SEO Florida, Florida SEO, SEO Tampa, Tampa SEO etc Based on recent work, we find that our anchor text distribution is good, if not very good. Our PA is for the internal page is 60 and our DA is 62 yet our Google rank for the above search terms is continually dropping. We have gone from #2 to #8 in the last few weeks. We have checked the websites of all that appear above us and their PA and DA are substantially less than us. Their anchor text links do not appear to be as well structured either. We have many unique domains - websites that we built - that point directly back to our SEO page. Some of these are fairly highly ranked sites... We are totally baffled. Can someone shed some light on this? What could the reason be? Any (and all) help and insights would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
