Colors in keyword Difficulty Report
-
Hi Everyone
Two quick questions today
1. How can I find out hat the different colors within the keyword Difficulty Report represent and how can I see examples of how this information can help us with our data analysis?
2. The second question I have is regarding the Term Extractor. Seems when I ran a domain it provided the wrong data. For example, it stated that a certain keyword exists certain number of times within the description and title of the page but when I looked at the source this was not the case so it made studying the competition harder.
Any suggestions or has anyone else noticed this? Thanks in advance for all your help.

1. The different colors provide simple visual aids to help you identify metric strength. For example, the colors are divided into the types of data they represent.
- URL Metrics - Green
- On-Page Optimization - Blue
- Domain Name-KW Match - Yellow
- URL Anchor Text Metrics - Purple
- Domain Wide Link Metrics - Red
- Social Signals - Green (again)
Within each metric, darker colors indicate which URL has achieved the highest level within each category - the "winner" of the metric, so to speak.
The best way to use this tool is using it to see how the top positions are winning, and compare yourself to them. Perhaps you are winning on social signals, but need better on-page optimization. There's no right answer, but the tool provides a wealth of information to see how you compare to the competition, how they are succeeding, and what you can do to improve.
2. The Term Extractor, unfortunately, can be a little temperamental. This is a known issue and our engineers have plans to improve this feature down the line. This is a really helpful tool when fully functional, and it still provides pretty good results for most users.
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Hi,
In regards to the keyword difficulty report. The colors are green and red. Green represent the page level metrics with the darker the color the higher the authority. The red represent the domain level metrics with deeper color representing higher authority.
In terms of questions 2. I would have to try it out again as I haven't used the Term extractor in a bit. If you send me a note or message with domain I might be able to help you out.
Hope this helps.

What is considered a keyword score that is too competitive?
I'm researching my keywords trying to strategise content around keywords I can optimise. Most of the high search volume (1000 + searches per month) keywords I want to optimise are in and around 0.5-0.6, is this good? Is this score range considered highly competitive...?

Exact Keyword is Used in Page Title & Exact Keyword Used in Document Text at Least Once
Hi Folks, I have a page https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-training/itil-foundation-training/itil-foundation that grades with the 'On-Page Grader' as a B grade for the keyword 'itil foundation' but reports that there is no 'Exact Keyword is Used in Page Title' and 'Exact Keyword Used in Document Text at Least Once'. The thing is, it actually is but because of IP (intellectual property) rights we have to include a '®' (®) symbol when we mention the course title 'ITIL® Foundation'. Now I believe Google is smart enough to recognise that this symbol should not be included but it seems that for the specific criteria mentioned above, the MOZ bot isn't smart enough to recognise this, even though it recognises the keyword usage elsewhere. So my question is this. Would this constitute an issue in terms of ranking? Another question I have, is how significant are the gains with shorter URL's? For example, the URL to the page in question is: https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-training/itil-foundation-training/itil-foundation Would a URL such as below have a significant effect on SEO?: https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-foundation Thanks for your feedback.

Ranking keyword ecommerce product
Hi guys, I run an ecommerce store footdistrict.com. We sell sneakers. My question relates to the name of some of my products and how to rank for them. This concerns to the shoes from New Balance The name of this products follows this format: New Balance XXNumberXXX . But actually I have realized I am ranking for New Balance XXNumber XXX . Note the space between the number and the last 3 characters. All my titles, h1, keywords follow this format. Example: New Balance WL574 RUP vs New Balance WL574RUP My questions are: 1. How would you determine which keyword to rank for: New Balance XXNumberXXX or New Balance XXNumber XXX? I have thought of using analytics data to see the pattern of the users search or maybe the difficulty of the keyword? I am receiving a decent amount of traffic for New Balance XXNumber XXX but I wonder if it'd be higher ranking for New Balance XXNumberXXX 2. Does the algorithmn take into account this space? According to the On page Grader, I have an A for New Balance XXNumber XXX and a F for New Balance XXNumber XXX but I assume the engine doesn't work this way 3. What would you do? Thanks very much Kind regards

How to run down the actual source of a 404 error that is reported.
In my 404 errors, the second entry is as follows: URL: http://www.virginiahomesandforeclosures.com/listing/0428387-lot-k-commerce-park-franklin-va-23851/REWIDX_URL_CDNimg/no-image.gif Is there a simple way to find the root or page in which this error was generated? IF I visit this page " http://www.virginiahomesandforeclosures.com/listing/0428387-lot-k-commerce-park-franklin-va-23851" without the attached gobble de gook, I see a good page. So bottom line its possible it could be in one of my sitemaps, but I have 50 of those so its time consuming to search thru all 50 for each error like this since I have so many. I am pretty sure its not in my sitemaps, since google has not picked up any of these errors and they have crawled over 12,000 urls so far. When google gives me a 404 error I can click on the link and find what pages they found the link and go there and correct it at the root. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have more than 1,000 of these errors with the bad url with the junk attached to the end and have not been able to isolate the cause yet. Thanks in advance.

Keyword Difficulty Tool
Is there a way to use KDT and include my own URL in the process so that I can see (and show my client) how things look competitively across all these nice dimensions? All is well if my client's site is in the top 10 - but if it isn't, how can I get the same set of metrics on a specific URL as it pertains to a specific keyword? Do I somehow to remember it used to do this? Or am I imagining things? I can't seem to get it to work this way. Thanks,

How can I change (specifically, decrease) the reporting/crawling frequency of the keyword ranking?
It always seem to compare the standings based on the week before, which confuses the issue when I'm only reporting monthly or quarterly. Is there currently (or might there be in the future) a way to set this so that the comparison is based on a time period that I specify?
