Confused by Google Mobile App (on Blackberry) results??!
-
First off, Hi guys I'm a new user here, in fact only in my second week of my trial period. However, I can assure you that I'll be continuing my subscription as this website is 'one hell of a bit of kit!'.
Now, to my predicament. I have a website: http://www.limegreenofficeproducts.co.uk which I am trying to move on up the rankings in Google (just like everyone else...).
Well, I have followed the instructions and guidance through the Campaign Manager and I have 'A' ratings now for a couple of my preferred keywords, namely 'Office Supplies' & 'Office Products'. I also have a number of textlinks with these exact terms, some quite powerful (I'm the only outbound link on a Homepage PR5 on one).
Anyway, being a complete and utter control freak - I wake up in the morning and check my rankings using the Google Mobile App for Blackberry whilst throwing as much coffee as possible down my neck. Basically (if you're not familiar with this app, it is just the same as connecting to the mobile internet and carrying out a search - or at least it should be).
Well I was really excited to find that I was ranking at No.41 for 'Office Supplies' and No.17 for 'Office Products'. When I fully woke up and ventured to the office, I checked on the Mac through the normal Google UK and I'm nowhere, for either? What makes it even more confusing is that the results on the mobile seem to be intermittent - so if I check at 11.00am I'm No.17, 11.05 I'm nowhere, 11.10 back to No.17 - but only on the Mobile App.
I have the Mobile App set up to Google UK, so that can't be the problem. I'm just wondering if either the Mobile App is ahead of the 'Real' Google UK results, or behind. The main reason for asking, is so that I can establish whether what I am doing is having a positive, or negative effect on the rankings. And if this is an quicker way to find out - then great!
I assume the advice to come back will be '..ignore the mobile app..' but as it's being kinder to me than the 'Real' Google I'd like to be a bit kinder to it, and give the little fella the benefit of the doubt. But having said that I just checked the search results (Top 1000) for Keywords 'Office Supplies' & 'Office Products' - For Office Products the site was No.614 and for 'Office Supplies it wasn't in the top 1000, ouch.
I know these things take time, as I have worked on a couple of other sites of ours and it seems that as soon as you are about to throw the towel in, the results just kick in. I'm not expecting miracles overnight, far from it - but it has me really confused.
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice?(except '...get a life coffee fiend')
Regards

Well,
To anyone that might be interested, the 'Real' Google UK search, updated about a week later to match the results I was getting on the Blackberry Google app.
Guess that means I should keep an eye on the app results, as they give me a heads up as to whats going to hit the 'Real' web results.
Really surprised though, that I didn't get more response, or support from the 'guys in the know' on here, unless this is a new revelation and nobody has come across it before - In which case, I claim it and it is now called 'Limegreen's Law'.
I thank you (now speaking like a man who knows his stuff - however put on it is).

Has nobody got any suggestions as to whats going on here, or is the answer that simple that no one can be bothered educating the novice as to ways of the SEO Jedi?
I would of thought this should be a concern for everybody, including SEOmoz, if the results that rank tracker is showing are not present in the 'Real' search engine results.

Morning Mozzers,
I'm so confused by this right now, so I'll give you an update.
Google Mobile App is no longer intermittent, I'm Position 17 for 'Office Products', and Position 42 (down 1 from yesterday) for 'Office Supplies'.
SEOmoz Rank Tracker records exactly the same information.
Another Rank Tracker tool I use (which I wont mention as I'm not sure of the correct etiquette in here) has me nowhere in the top 100 (although these could possibly be cached results from whenever).
When I check directly in www.google.co.uk via the Mac for both keyword terms I am nowhere to be seen.
When I use the my Blackberry but instead of using the Google Mobile App I just simply connect to the internet, and go to URL www.google.co.uk, then search the keyword terms - Sure as hell I'm No.17 & No.42.
I thought maybe it had something to do with localized searching as it's a mobile (cell), but that wouldn't explain why the SEOmoz Rank Tracker is getting the same results?
I've reset my preferred browser (Firefox), and also tried Chrome and Safari but I don't get any different results.
Would it be possible for somebody to explain where the SEOmoz Rank Tracker results are gathered from, as this might give me an insight into what is causing this. The thing is if I'm ranking 17 and 42 in theory that's great, but without my website actually being visible in those positions it's worthless.
Might have a tea now, rather than coffee - I'll let you know how that goes.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies - I appreciate it.
Trax, I didn't even know about Rank Tracker, so I'm more of a muppet than my Mrs says I am. But I just did the same as you and ran the Rank Tracker for both keyword terms. I got Office Supplies No.41, and Office Products No.17 but the funny thing is when I clicked on the link it provides to the search results - I wasn't there?
I have attached the results for you to see.

Welcome to the board, have you tried rank tracker? http://www.seomoz.org/rank-tracker
I checked your rank and here is the results that I got for your keyword on UK Google. I would recommend to begin going after smaller words, and slowly move on to the big ones. It's almost half a million searches word... and it will take very long time for you to move on this keyword term.
Also keep in mind that local results mean a lot, and depending on your location the results may wary.
Office Supplies N#41
Office Products - Not in top 50

Hi Limegreen,
Results from programs like these tend to fluctuate a lot. Even google itself fluctuates. So it could be entirely possible that you ranked that high for a few hours on google UK.
If you log into your webmaster tools you'll be able to see each keyword there with their average position.

Google results not close to matching MOZ PA and SA - Why?
I'm trying to convince a boss and another client/partner of the value of MOZ, but it's a challenge when Google's results and the MOZ analytics are way off. For example, when I do non-personalized (MOZ toolbar) Google search for "stair lift kansas city" I see some results that make sense. Further down the page I see my prospective client, kclift.com -- it's a new site with poor MOZ grades and almost no backlinks. It has a PA of 1 and a DA of 4. Yet it ranks above a YP site that has a DA of 89, and another site that has a PA of 27 and a DA of 14. What gives? When I used an in-private Bing search for those terms this site didn't display in the 1st 4 pages. That makes sense with these MOZ rankings and the new site. So how does the site get page 1 results on Google for the same terms? (I should note that I've gone to this site a lot, for the client, and done other related searches. I live in Charlotte, which is why I've included Kansas City in the search terms. With this search, I've tried several ways to do a Google search that is truly anonymous, but I'm not sure I've succeeded. I've erased browsing data, used incognito, used other browsers, and used the MOZ non-personalized Google search. All from the same IP though. Does Google track that? If so, how can one do a truly anonymous search on Google?) All suggestions welcome. Thanks! Richard S.

Could client be skewing search results?
I'm working with a client that is searching Google numerous times per day for various phrases that his site may rank for. A lot of these he uses the same search phrase multiple times/day to see if there is any change. Unfortunately, these are not the phrases I have optimized his site for. Moz is now displaying some of these search phrases along with associated pages and grading them as F - because they are not optimized for these phrases. Is it possible that my client caused this by doing the searches? If I already have particular pages grading an A for the targeted term chosen, should I attempt to add elements to move the F to a better position for the new keyword phrase being suggested? (I always thought you should target one page/phrase. Thanks!!

Website not being indexed by Google - does seomoz have a index checker?
i have been to a couple of index checking websites that are saying my website is not being indexed, my developer and seo team have been making a lot of changes recently and I think it is because of that. Also my first byte grade is D. Can I check here on seomoz if my site is being indexed by Google here in the UK?

Best way to rank an E-commerce site fast? [GOOGLE]
Does anyone have experience in ranking E-commerce sites? I'm trying to rank 1000+ subcategorys and 300+ products. All less than 1k Exacts some are just 20ish some go up to 1k. I've used Traffic Travis all keywords are ranked as [Easy] along with the tools here. My competition have 0 backlinks to there sites. Some sites have PR1-4 (only 2-3 per SERP rest are 0 so should be quite easy. However I'm up against Amazon and Google shopping for the products. Anyways what would you guys recommend me do?

SEO Moz Tools - too many on the page links result driving me nuts
A while back I remember Rand and I having a conversation about how many links on the page and up until that point I had followed the NO MORE THAN 100 links on a page rule - which is what the MOZ tools are telling me now in the campaigns I have running. But then during a seminar both of us were holding this 100 link rule question came up and Rand commented that this was probably old hat now as the search engines can crawl a much greater number of links in the page. I was encouraged by his answer especially where ecommerce websites are concerned. But the MOZ tool is driving me nuts telling me that this 100 link rule is still something to be adhered too. It is especially frustrating when we are discussing ecommerce website sites with editable mega menus. Examples to support this question are www.bohemiadesign.co.uk or www.flowersbuydelivery.co.uk which are 2 ecommerce sites I am aware of using such mega menus that are editable and give a link count greater than 100. and I am sure there are many more sites like this, even Amazon for example. So, how much notice do we take of this warning in MOZ tools that is telling me about excessive numbers of links on the pages it lists as needing corrected?

Strange Ranking On 1st Page Of Google For Competitive Keyword
Hey all, So, I've noticed a site ranking on the first page in Google for a keyword that I have been targeting for years. The keyword is "mixtapes" and pretty competitive. The site, http://www.newyorkmixtapes.com is ranking around #4 in Google. It seemed odd to me so I looked into the site using some of the tools here. Open Explorer showed that they have minimal links. The actual site is pretty spammy also. Does anyone have any idea how this site ranked so high so fast? Is it ranking because I am located in New York? Does Google still put lots of weight on exact match domains? It's just been bothering me because it's a keyword that I put a lot of work into and then the site rolls around an ranks well for it with barely any backlinks. I just wanted to put it out there and see if I'm missing something obvious. Thanks everyone!
