SEOMoz SERP Overlay Vs. Opensite Explorer
-
This may be a simple answer, but when I search for a term and see a website on the SERP, the SEOMoz tool bar shows link data beneath the link. For this site in particular, it shows 300+ links for the root domain and for the page, it shows 8 links. When I put that website in opensite explorer, it shows the same data for the "Page" stats (8 links from 3 root domains), but nowhere can I find where the 315 links from 4 domains comes from. So my questions is why do those links show in the SERP overlay, but not in OSE?

I appreciate the response Cyrus. That's exactly what I was looking for. It looks like the discrepancy comes from internal link count, which I hadn't considered. Thanks!

OSE defaults to page-specific metrics, so you have to a little digging to get to the domain level metrics. There are a couple of ways (or more) to get there.
Hit the "Compare Link Metrics" tab. Here you can compare metrics at the Page, Subdomain and Root Domain Level. If you scroll towards the bottom, you should be able to find those root domain metrics that reference those 315 links from 4 domains.
To get a more granular view of these links, you can use the various filter functions on each page.
For example, on the Inbound links tab, you can use the dropdowns to select "all links" from "only external" to "pages on this root domain". By using various sorting options you'll arrive at different numbers, depending on what you are looking for. You can apply similar filters to the other tabs, as well as use the advanced report section to create custom reports.
Let me know if this makes sense. I hope it helps! Best of luck with your SEO!

Moz vs google data conflict?
Hi there, I am doing an SEO site audit for a client(giveaway, and here is the problem: when performing site:domain.com on google --> 13,800 pages were found When I see this number it seems to be a bit too much compare to the links i checked on integrity(link check for broken links) which gave me a result of 1291. I digged in more into the Google results and saw hundreds(maybe thousands) of pages that are blocked by robots.txt. So I am thinking, ok this is it, thousands of pages can't be crawled by the search engines. Here is the big BUT though, then I check at my moz crawl (see attachment) and no pages are blocked by the SEs, and then look at the dups, only 23 recorded?? Is Moz not crawling properly the 13,800 results that google finds or is this some magical phenomenon happening here? I am really confused here that is why I need some help here! Thank you guys! Find Historical SERP Ranking for a Term?
Is there any way to find out what pages ranked for a given term historically? I.e. what were the top 10 search results for "Widgets" 6 months ago, 1 year ago, 2 years ago? If I had a campaign tracking that term, I'd be able to look back, but I do not. Does this data exist anywhere in a format that could be queried?

Title tag discrepancy - is this a Yoast or SEOMoz thing?
Just took on a WP site using Yoast - need help understanding the title tag. SEOMoz reports that the HP title tag is 159 characters, but there are only 60 characters entered in the plug-in field and GWT reports no "too long" title tags. Is this a Yoast thing? Opensite Explorer CSV Problems
I'm getting a few formatting errors in the CSVs I export from Opensite Explorer, after I've opened them in Excel. Specifically, in an Inbound Links export, there are several merged fields creating new rows. This seems to be caused by line returns in the Title column. At the moment I'm sorting these all out by hand, but it's a bit of a chore when there are lots of records. However it has to be done, because you can't sort of filter properly otherwise. Has anyone else had similar problems. If so. I'd really appreciate any tips to a) stop it happening, of b) speed up / automate the process of cleaning up the CSVs. Many thanks Ben

SEOMoz Toolbar in Chrome
The SEOMoz toolbar is displayed very differently in Chrome as compared with Firefox. It 'overlaps' the page, showing on top of the content instead of offsetting the page/window. In other words, the footer or the header of the page (depending on what toolbar location is chosen in the Settings) is eclipsed by the Toolbar. This was not an issue in Firefox. Has anyone experienced the same problem with the toolbar? How can I make the toolbar integrate into the browser window itself rather that popping up on top of the rendered webpage? Thanks.
