Your question is very very broad so I will keep it very very general:
-
Define the customer your client wants
-
Define the query terms your client's customer searches on
-
there will be high competition terms that need patience
-
there will be lower competition terms that you should search for to get lower hanging (slower falling) fruit
-
this is where you will analyze the keywords and pick what you believe to be the best starting point for them to find clients. Do not skimp on the time you allocate for this process. Make a decision on what you will use. (200 pages covering every term is not the way to start).
-
Look at website as is and grade it based on
-
Architecture
Is it built in a way that does not cause problems for indexing, Does it have too many internal links and ads, is on page SEO near perfect, does the navigation lend itself to easy movement for the searcher, does it have good content that speaks to the person coming to the site (does content = query), is the content fresh.
- Meta Description
When I search on "staff leasing" for example and read the snippet on the SERP, do I read about how your client will solve my staff leasing problem or about what a great company they are (STAFF LEASING please)
- When I land on that page because of your stellar meta description, do I easily find the answer to my questions, am I compelled to contact you?, have you made it very simple for me to do that? If I do, are you sure you are tracking everything about that contact and your client will follow through on it (I spend 10% of our time on insuring the client followed through when developing business leads - it is important).
Wherever your client is, have you absolutely, positively, without a doubt maximized local for them? If not start now, no, I mean it stop reading and go do it now.
Now, if that is all in place and wired very tightly, I will begin to analyze results by looking at analytics, webmaster tools, campaign reports and deciding where I may need to strengthen pages, meta descriptions, etc. and where I need to put up others. I need to know that I am either moving a page up (and it is getting traffic) or not. If it is page 1 number one and no one goes there are converts there, there is a problem or two.
Assuming you have done all of this and you are beginning to get traction, see some leads, etc. you need to keep after it, when you find terms that don't work, you can quit bothering with them, change them, add a new page, etc.
Make sure your client is keeping you abreast as to their industry as they are the subject matter expert not you. They need to be told to write a blog or get someone to be the info giver to one of your copywriters, etc. They need to keep you appraised of every event they attend, convention, etc. you need to go grab those links.
Keep up with infographics, link bait, etc. BUT, if you get that first - prior to everything else, it will not matter. Get the first part first. Then the other.
Lastly, now to really help them, get up every morning an hour early and learn the potential impact of Schema, or the next pandanization, or etc. Read, study, question, etc. When you see someone ask a question on moz, take ten minutes and answer it, you will either do well, medium, or poorly. When you do well people will clap, when you do medium people will say, OK, when you do poorly people will correct you....and you will learn.
OK, very lastly, have fun, make some money, smile.

Question regarding international SEO
Hi there, I have a question regarding international SEO and the APAC region in particular. We currently have a website extension .com and offer our content in English. However, we notice that our website hardly ranks in Google in the APAC region, while one of the main languages in that region is also English. I figure one way would be to set up .com/sg/ (or .com/au/ or .com/nz/), but then the content would still be in English. So wouldn't that be counted as duplicate content? Does anyone have experience in improving website rankings for various English-speaking countries, without creating duplicate content? Thanks in advance for your help!

Ecommerce Product Page Optimization & International SEO
Hello, I'm working on our website SEO optimization. We have a thousands of products pages with different structures for the languages (arg) and very depth folder path .com/[folder]/[folder]/[folder]/product1.hmtl So now I have the happiness of working on the optimization of the website with themajor risk of impacting all current ranking. But anyway, here are a few questions I have on the way. Part 1 - International URL Our websites target people per country and languages. We do not have shops per countries (not enough resources_) but we try to get at least website per languages. What could be the best option?_ Url Parameters +hreflang So we save one folder less and the proper setup. But I'm just scared it's gonna be too messy for Google URL:.com/product1**?lang=fr** Product page:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href=".com/product1" / Language folder + hreflang one folder more but clearer structure URL:.com**/fr/**product1 **Product **page:****link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href=".com/product1" / Part 2 - Product URL Our website is structure per categories so the product comes after. However, I've seen a lot of websites recently removing the categories to save folders space. What should be the most efficient option? Category folder It's obviously a good practice but this + the language folder makes already 2 folders URL:.com/categoryA/product1-{targetedKW} {targetedKW} = cheap product, best price or else All in url I've never done it but it somehow makes sense URL:.com/categoryA-product1-{targetedKW} Part 3 - Keyword stuffing As I'd like to get most of it automatically done, what could be the best places to add a few KW. **Markups:**All the ones we can **Meta Descriptions:**optimize one for Google + one for twitter + one for facebook Longer to do but then from google shopping and other automatic links, we could have the perfect or, at least, best description possible **All other option:**Reuse our product name + {targetter KW1 KW2 ...} Product description_ex: content_ Buttons (click to buy)ex: button title="Buy product_name cheap" alt="Purchase product_name"Buy Product name/button Images:same than above Meta:Titles and meta description Hn

Multi Regional Website Best Practices
Hi there, I have a website that is targeting 3 countries AU/US & NZ. I have set up hreflang tags for each page on each of the site however I am having difficulties getting it work right. I read this article which was a great insight into the hreflang tags. https://moz.com/blog/hreflang-behaviour-insights and as a result I have implemented hreflang tags in the following manner: When users access the root domain http://[website] it will redirect the user to their locale with a 302 redirect. I have a few questions:
International SEO | | nathanfranklin
1. When building my external link profiles, I'm not sure if I should be building link profiles for http://[website]/ or for the geo graphical pages (http://[website]/aus/ etc..). Note that the http://[website]/ is never used, it just issues a 302 to the actual geographical location. 2. It seems that the hreflang tags are not working correctly. Perhaps its the result of the 302 on the root page, but in google.com.au (using the link http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&gl=au&pws=0&q=[branded search]) I would expect that I should see the search results for /aus/ given the fact that the hreflang tags are setup as en-au. Instead I am seeing the root domain page. Is that correct or should it be showing all the pages with /aus/. ALSO If I do a search in google thailand (http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&gl=th&pws=0&q=[branded search]) it returns the /aus/ version where it should be showing the /us/ using the x-default hreflang tag. In google webmaster tools I have setup 4 site profiles:
http://[website]/
http://[website]/us/
http://[website]/aus/ (Targeted to Australia)
http://[website]/nz/ (Targeted to New Zealand) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Nathan1 -

International SEO Question with regards to Sub Folders in Webmaster Tools
So, we have a website in 18 or so different languages. bluewidgets.com/br bluewidgets.com/cn etc I have added each sub folder in Google Webmaster Tools and 'pointed' them to be at their respective geographic specific. However, the United States version of the website is sitting on the root domain. Is there any issue with me pointing the root domain at United States Google, considering there are 18 sub folders already pointed at different regions?

Google Webmaster Tools - International SEO Geo-Targeting site with Worldwide rankings
I have a client who already has rankings in the US & internationally. The site is broken down like this: url.com (main site with USA & International Rankings) url.com/de url.com/de-english url.com/ng url.com/au url.com/ch url.com/ch-french url.com/etc Each folder has it's own sitmap & relative content for it's respective country. I am reading in google webmaster tools > site config > settings, the option under 'Learn More': "If you don't want your site associated with any location, select Unlisted." If I want to keep my client's international rankings the way it currently is on url.com, do NOT geo target to United States? So I select unlisted, right? Would I use geo targeting on the url.com/de, url.com/de-english, url.com/ng, url.com/au and so on?
