Generating a Sitemap for websites linked to a wordpress blog

Greetings,
I'm looking for a way to generate a sitemap that will include static pages on my home directory, as well as my wordpress blog. The site that I'm trying to build this for is in a temporary folder, and can be accessed at http://www.lifewaves.com/Website 3.0
I plan on moving the contents of this folder to the root directory for lifewaves.com whenever we are go for launch.
What I'm wondering is, is there a way to build a sitemap or sitemap index that will point to the static pages of my site, as well as the wordpress blog while taking advantage of the built in wordpress hierarchy? If so, what's an easy way to do this. I have generated a sitemap using Yoast, but I can't seem to find any xml files within the wordpress folder. Within the plugin is a button that I can click to access the sitemap index, but it just brings me to the homepage of my blog.
Can I build a sitemap index that points to a sitemap for the static pages as well as the sitemap generated by yoast? Thank you in advance for your help!!
P.S. I'm kind of a noob.

It doesn't matter sitemaps are designed to make sure all your pages are crawled and improve the chances of indexing.

Thanks, Chris. I was able to manually add my static pages in the root folder to the sitemap built by the google XML sitemap generator. This works out great since I can control their priority and other settings, including the location of the sitemap file itself.
One additional question is, within the sitemap, does the order of pages matter? In other words, if I want to drive more traffic to my static pages (not wordpress), should they come first in the sitemap, or does the priority ranking take care of this?

Having more than one sitemap is not an issue for SEO.if anything it makes sure the search spiders can definitely find your content.
The Google XML sitemaps plugin normally creates a file in the Wordpress folder i.e..
yourdomain.com/wp/sitemap.xml but you can define your preferred location
When you publish a new blog or page the sitemap will automatically update.

Thanks, Chris. Does it hurt my site in terms of SEO to have two separate sitemaps? I know there's no real answer for this, but I'd like to have a grip of the pro's and con's.
Also, I my brain was heading down this path with the idea that I could tie the two sitemaps together using a sitemap index which would list both of them. Do you know the default location of the sitemap generated by Google XML Sitemaps, and if the file name changes when it is updated? I believe this is all the information I would need to put both in a sitemap index.

I use the Google XML Sitemaps plugin to automatically generate my sitemap for my blog. You can have more than 1 sitemap for a site so you could create a 2nd sitemap for the static pages & manually manage this as static pages are less likely to change. If the static pages are part of your Wordpress install then the plugin will pick these up too.

I just found this article by Yoast himself. Sounds like he ran into a few of the same hurdles you have and created a PHP script to help build a sitemap. http://yoast.com/xml-sitemap-php-script/

The only other option I would recommend is to build the sitemap yourself. I recently purchased http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ based on some of the other Q&A threads in SEOmoz and used it for a large ecommerce site. It was a good fix to my problems. Maybe a help, maybe not.

Googlebot and other spiders are searching for odd links in our website trying to understand why, and what to do about it.
I recently began work on an existing Wordpress website that was revamped about 3 months ago. https://thedoctorwithin.com. I'm a bit new to Wordpress, so I thought I should reach out to some of the experts in the community.Checking ‘Not found’ Crawl Errors in Google Search Console, I notice many irrelevant links that are not present in the website, nor the database, as near as I can tell. When checking the source of these irrelevant links, I notice they’re all generated from various pages in the site, as well as non-existing pages, allegedly in the site, even though these pages have never existed. For instance: https://thedoctorwithin.com/category/seminars/newsletters/page/7/newsletters/page/3/feedback-and-testimonials/ allegedly linked from: https://thedoctorwithin.com/category/seminars/newsletters/page/7/newsletters/page/3/ (doesn’t exist) In other cases, these goofy URLs are even linked from the sitemap. BTW - all the URLs in the sitemap are valid URLs. Currently, the site has a flat structure. Nearly all the content is merely URL/content/ without further breakdown (or subdirectories). Previous site versions had a more varied page organization, but what I'm seeing doesn't seem to reflect the current page organization, nor the previous page organization. Had a similar issue, due to use of Divi's search feature. Ended up with some pretty deep non-existent links branching off of /search/, such as: https://thedoctorwithin.com/search/newsletters/page/2/feedback-and-testimonials/feedback-and-testimonials/online-continuing-education/consultations/ allegedly linked from: https://thedoctorwithin.com/search/newsletters/page/2/feedback-and-testimonials/feedback-and-testimonials/online-continuing-education/ (doesn't exist). I blocked the /search/ branches via robots.txt. No real loss, since neither /search/ nor any of its subdirectories are valid. There are numerous pre-existing categories and tags on the site. The categories and tags aren't used as pages. I suspect Google, (and other engines,) might be creating arbitrary paths from these. Looking through the site’s 404 errors, I’m seeing the same behavior from Bing, Moz and other spiders, as well. I suppose I could use Search Console to remove URL/category/ and URL/tag/. I suppose I could do the same, in regards to other legitimate spiders / search engines. Perhaps it would be better to use Mod Rewrite to lead spiders to pages that actually do exist. Looking forward to suggestions about best way to deal with these errant searches. Also curious to learn about why these are occurring. Thank you.

Redirects for new website

I'm a fairly new SEO Specialist with a brand new website. We initially had a very basic holding website until the fully functional website was completed. I have to do some redirects as we have both .html and .php files & we don't want to lose SEO value for specific pages (like the index, news, etc). I also want to redirect from a www url to a non-www url. I am trying to accomplish redirects with the following code: RewriteEngine on

Will sitemap generated in Yoast for a combined wordpress/magento site map entire site ?
Hi For an ecommerce site thats been developed via a combination of wordpress and magento and has yoast installed, will the sitemap (& other yoast features) map (& apply to) the entire site or just wordpress aspects ? In other words does one need to do anything else to have a full sitemap for a combined magento/wordpress site or will Yoast cover it all ? Link Diversity
With the current updates in the Seo world how critical is link diversity. We are revamping our site and planning to add many new pages to our site and planning to build links to relevant pages with relevant anchor texts keywords. Noob 101 - Sitemaps
Hi guys, looking for some sitemap help. I'm running two seperate systems so my auto-generated sitemap on the main system has a few holes in it. I'd like to submit this to webmaster anyway, and then plug the holes with missing pages by adding them to 'Fetch as Google'. Does that make sense or will Google ignore one of them? Many thanks, Idiot

Exclude Child URLs from XML Sitemap Generator (Wordpress)
Hi all, I was recommended the XML Sitemap Generator for Wordpress by the very helpful Keith Bloemendaal and John Pring - however I can't seem to exclude child URLs. There is a section Exclude items and a subsection Exclude posts. I have tried inputting the URLs for the pages I don't want in the sitemap, however that didn't work. So I read that you have to include a list of "IDs" - not sure where on earth to find that info, tried the page name and the post= number from the URL, however neither worked. I hope somebody can point me in the right direction - and apologies, I am a Wordpress novice, and I got no answers from the Wordpress forums so turned right back to SEOmoz! Cheers.

How to attach at text to image that other websites use from my website
I often have other websites link to my website. They will do this with an image that they pull off of my website. (actually my website continues to serve the image). These inbound links are great, but they don't have alt text. Is there a way for me to attach alt text to the images, or is this something the other website needs to code themselves?
