Helpful or Hurtfull / Distributor Links to Our site on every product page?
-
We have a distributor site with a page rank of 3 on its home page, and 0-1'ish on its product pages. While our manufacturing site is PR 4 getting close to 5...
We are thinking about adding a link from our distributors product pages to our manufacturing appropriate material information page. This would be about 10k links spread out among 7 materials. We want to add these links to help our distributor sites customers, but we don't want to hurt our manufacturing site in the process.
I personally don't know of any problem this would cause, but our manufacturing site is so important I need to verify adding this many links wouldn't hurt us.
Your thoughts and knowledge is appreciated.

Hello Donford,
The easiest thing to do if you are really only concerned about providing a link to more information for the distributor's visitors is to nofollow that link. This way you're not going to chance getting "dinged" for adding 10,000 links all at once.
If you have a few product pages on the manufacturing site that you'd like to improve you can selectively remove the nofollow tag from the link pointing to those pages from the distributor side, but I wouldn't recommend 10,000 followable links from a single domain all at once.
Questions like this are always difficult to answer because Google doesn't treat every site the same. A well-known brand with thousands of high quality links and a trusted, established site that has been in operation for a long time with good user metrics, and has never been penalized can get away with a LOT more than a relatively unknown brand or an "average" site. That is why I recommend starting with the nofollowed links and, if you want, testing the waters by allowing a few of them to be followed.
Please let me know if you feel your question has still not been adequately answered.
Cheers,
Everett

Thanks for the response.
I can't agree with it however, maybe I should have posted more information as the reason for 2 sites is actually very important. Our manufacturing site focuses and serves as custom manufacturing site, custom jobs, prototyping and support for the clients is the most important aspect of its existence. Watering it down with standard product lines was not an option. This is where the distributor site comes in, the site servers as an option for customers who request standardized items in which we can and do make, but 99% of the time a person requesting the item wouldn't meet our minimum order quantity. Instead of losing the business out right we work with the distributor to stock our products who can buy them in bulk and resell them in smaller quantities.
This will not change. Not because I say so, but the decision is made way above my pay grade.
As for point 1 you said:
If the manufacturing site is sooooo important that you feel compelled to link to it 10,000 times then maybe you should only have one website?
This is a branding thing, the manufacturing site is a custom manufacture and everything there is mostly geared towards providing information about customer manufacturing and supporting our clients. I am NOT compelled to generate 10,000 links to this site for the manufacturing sites benefit, rather the distributor sites benefit by getting useful information about product materials. Thus, helping the distributor site.
So the question and decission comes down to this;
If we can provide our users on the distributor site more information via a link, without hurting our manufacturing site, as far as user experiences go I'm all for it. But, if this amount of linking could cause us to get dinged then we will not do it.
Once again I do appreciate your input, and I hope I lad out the case for the two different sites, so my original question can be re-examined.

I am going to respond in two different ways.....

If I owned two websites on the same topic I would seriously consider combining them for SEO reasons. That gives you a single site with all of the strengths of the two sites together.

What will the SECOND link from a site do for me
Say I have an opportunity to get another link from a high authority site that has already linked an important article from me (a page I REALLY want to rank well). Now a month later, they are interviewing me and asking what I'd like to link. I have plenty of good content I can offer, but I really want that page they already linked to to climb a bit in the rankings. So my question is, how is that second link best spent? Would linking to the same page give it a boost? Or does Google see it as "oh. Another link from the same domain. Yippee." Would that link do more for a different page on my site at this point?

Puzzled by high ranking page (#2 in SERPs) with zero/low page or domain authority
So, I get the smoothie that is page authority and domain authority and the link metrics that Moz uses to predict how well a page will rank for a certain keyword. I can look at a specific search term where we are on say, page 2 or 3, with a page authority of 1 and domain authority of 26, I get why competitors rank above us. But then I look at a keyword that is much more competitive, where we rank #2, which is awesome, where the landing page is also showing a page authority of 1, and domain authority of 26. How can we rank higher than competitors with a page authority of 56 and domain authority of 65? Their onpage optimization for the keyword is no worse, and sometimes better that ours but we maintain this ranking. By the way the competition also have hundreds if not thousands more linking root domains than our page. Any ideas why one keyword is a rockstar and one is a dud, with the same poor PA and DA?

What is the best way to remove a link that redirects to a spammy site?
I've got a new client and I'm trying to clean up their backlinks. There are several links that all redirect to this spam site http://www.expert-lender.com. All of the websites appear to be real, i.e. http://www.sammorganhomes.com/ but the actual links i.e http://www.sammorganhomes.com/wp-fav/backup/supplement/semitruckleasing.html are in a sub-directory and redirect to the spam site. I don't know if these links were from the previous SEO company or if they paid someone to create these or if these sites have been hacked. Can anyone tell me what is going on here and what should I tell these site owners?

Document download sites linking to my site. Should I disavow?
I downloaded my links through the Google Webmaster site and I have a number of new links that appear to be coming from document download sites. They have basically taken my PDFs and have them to where they can be downloaded. They are also linking back to my site and creating what I feel are sketchy links. I don't actually want traffic coming to these PDFs. They are basically sample articles for my writing company and it's just a portfolio. Here's one of the links: http://www.give-me-doc.com/Trailer-Brake-Types.pdf So, what or can I do about them? Should I disavow them? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

Networking sites / paid links
A national networking company charges its members, say, a few of hundred pounds to become part of their network, which involves offline networking events and online in forums and a directory. All the links of the directory and forum sigs etc are all do-follow. While it's not just a directory, how beneficial a link is this likely to be? The site itself has a DA of 60 and a PR rank of 4. 1k likes on their cnnected FB page and 21 likes on the G+. At the networking meetings they tell new recruits that being a member gives them a very valuable backlink and everytime they participate in the forums they get another do follow backlink. Ive checked and they are dofollow. Is this likely to be a great value link?

Non-Affiliate Links from Distributors
Hi, A client has hundreds of distributors around the world. As part of our link building campaign, we want to send an email to them asking them to link back to the company with an SEO-friendly link. However, we also have a distributors page with a link to each distributor. Is it worth spending time on getting distributor links or will Google view these as reciprocal links and devalue them? Thanks, Josh
