How to get most out of viral blog traffic?
-
Our website has a WordPress blog, hosted at website.com/blog.
I've discovered that with some hard work and a bit of luck, I can create a blog posts that will go viral - they will get about 50k readers in 1-3 days (which is a LOT for our website), and 300-1000 tweets, 100-250 Facebook shares, and anywhere from 10 to 130~ G+1s. (Unfortunately, these are for the posts, not for our website.)
The posts will also get some comments. And most importantly, a few links - sometimes from very reputable domains.
However, I feel that I could be doing much more here.
The links go directly to the blog post, and I'm not sure how much is that helping our website overall in regards to SEO.
-
What actions can I encourage the readers to do, and how should I prioritize them? Some of the actions are: Sharing/liking, writing a comment, checking out our products, subscribing to our Facebook/Twitter/G+ profile, subscribing to our RSS. One another possible action/opportunity that I see and which could potentially pay off is to offer some kind of PDF report to be emailed, which would initiate an autoresponder sequence.

Do you think that having a clear call to action in a blog post could reduce the sharing of it ?
-
Is it possible to encourage whoever is writing about our blog posts to use a direct link to our website, instead of linking directly to the post? If yes, how? E.g. if I included a direct link to our website in the post itself, e.g. in the most important part of the post that gets quoted, it could work - unfortunately that's usually virtually impossible.

Am I sitting on a gold mine here, and should do this as much as possible?
-
Should I consider putting this content not just onto the blog, but on our website.com/something ? I'm actually not sure how that would help though, it would simply have a shorter URL. I've discovered that it doesn't matter where I post this content, if the presentation looks decent. So it doesn't have to be posted on website.com/blog. I can even post it on other domains - should I?
And the most important question:
- How do I get the most out of this opportunity in SEO regards?
Thanks for any ideas or insights!

Good for you to be able to create such shareable content!
I have one post I wrote that occasionally gets a boost of virality and I'll tell you what I did (but I am by no means an expert on how to make the best use of viral traffic.)
-I put links in that article to other interesting/related articles on my site.
-I encourage people to share or link to this article if they have found it helpful. (If you're not already doing it, you may consider adding a block of code to show people how to link to the article, for those who are not html savvy.)
Another thing you can do is use this article to look for linkbuilding opportunities. If that many people are willing to share and read your stuff then you should have people who want to link to it. Depending on the content you can look for other websites that are linking to this kind of stuff and then suggest your site as a resource to link to. Similarly, you can do broken link building. Find sites that link to your kind of content, then search for broken links (I use the chrome check-my-links extension). Then, you can send them an email saying, "Hey, I found some broken links on your site. I was wondering who I could report them to...and by the way, you may find this article of mine worth linking to.)
Care to share your tips on how you make an article attract so much attention?

What do I do about old content on my blog?
I run a blog: www.b2bsocialmediaguide.com. It's been going for 2.5 years and some of the old content is, frankly, dated! What do you recommend I do about it? 1. Update old articles with new, more relevant content and change the date? 2. Write new articles with the relevant content and forward the URLs from old articles to the new ones? 3. Do nothing. 4. Just add links to new content from old posts? I don't want to lose link juice!

Dealing with Pinterest Traffic | Best Practices?
I've not been able to determine what a best practice might be in this situation. Maybe you can help. One of my sites (built on Wordpress) had a blog post go viral on Pinterest. We went from about 1-200 visits a day to more than 17,000 visits daily. All the traffic was basically coming through this one blog post. The site was not built to accommodate that much traffic. We quickly received a call from the hosting company that they had to take our site down because of the load that was being placed on the server (shared hosting.) This is a small, niche site. The products & services being advertised are extremely niche. There is no intent to ever have huge amounts of traffic because we know the customer base is so small. In order to keep the site up, and to reduce the amount of traffic coming from Pinterest, the hosting company modified the .htaccess file to block all traffic coming from pinterest.com. We know that 99% of all the traffic coming from Pinterest not only were not potential customers, but are in the wrong demographic. So, there's no worry for us in losing that traffic. I also know we're not the first site this has happened to. So, what's the best practice here?

SEO relevance of Google+. Should we bother getting Google+?
I've read mixed results about the SEO benefit of having Google+ for your company. I'm sure that a very small % of my sites user base has Google+ so if we did implement Google+ into our site I don't think we would really have anyone following us...or in our circle or whatever they call it. So are you guys using Google+ for your business and if so, do you think it's worth it for me to if I know barely any of my users have Google+? Google really seems to be trying to plush Google+ for business, with replacing Google places with Google+ Business and requiring people to log into Google+ to rate businesses. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I was wondering if you have a like button on the blog and people use it to like a post , is it possible to find out who all have liked the post ? ( there is a counter to show the number of people who have liked the post, but could not figure out who have actually clicked the like button )

Should I post these viral videos/photos on my website?
I started posting viral videos and stuff that I found on reddit and youtube on my facebook fan page. It's getting a lot of attention and creating more opportunities for bonding with my fans/customers. I'm just wondering what you guys think about reposting some of this stuff on my blog...do you think it would be worth the time and effort? I've experimented with a few and it really does draw traffic to my site...and gets me facebook shares. But the traffic is very poorly converting. So, now I'm trying to decide if the extra time it takes (i.e. 5-10 minutes to write a blog post and include the video imbed code vs. 20 seconds to just hit the "share" button) is worth it. What do you think?
