SEOmoz indicating duplicate page content on one of my campaigns
-
Hello All,
Alright, according to SEOmoz's PRO campaign manager, one of my websites is returning about 2,700 pages that supposedly have duplicate content. I checked a few of them manually and am not seeing where the issue lies. Is anyone else experiencing something similar to this and do you know if it is just a glitch with the crawl?
Here are 2 of the pages it is indicating have dup page content:
- http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-90-dodge-cummins-94-02-59l-12v24v.aspx
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

makes sense, thanks again for your replies and for taking the time, much appreciated!

You want to rel="canonical" the actual products in the categories for example with Magento with just 5 products in a category page you can end up with nearly 200 different URLs because
- You can sort them by Grid or by list
- You can sort them by Position, Name, Price etc
- You can show 9, 15 or 30 per page
- You can sort them ascending or descending
So basically any link that changes the visual elements of a page but doesn’t change the content of the page I'm not sure if your site does this but that's why its important to use rel="canonical" for eComm sites..

Thanks Chris, wasn't sure how big of an effect the sidebar, header, footer, etc. would have on this which is why I dismissed it right off the bat. I have been running this campaign in SEOmoz for quite some time now and there have been no major changes to the static or product pages and all of a sudden it just spiked last month to show me all of the dup content errors.
Regarding the rel="canonical", would I really want to do that on product pages if most of them are providing unique content about the individual product or are you referring to implementing it on this page pointing to this page?
I can see where the unique paragraph would help and hopefully eliminate the issue if it in fact lies with the header, footer, sidebar on those pages with just a few products and no descriptions or content.
Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Hit CTRL + U and now compare the 2 pages you can see that this page has just 3 products on it this means that about 90% of the content on this page i.e. the header, sidebar, footer is the same as this page.
1. Your titles are also very similar one is 1994-02 5.9L Dodge Cummins Diesel Performance Parts and the other is 1994-98 5.9L Dodge Cummins Carbon Fibre Hoods make sure your titles lead with the difference i.e.
Carbon Fibre Hoods for 1994-98 5.9L Dodge Cummins
2. Canonise your Product Pages - make sure you use the rel="canonical" on the individual product listings
3. Remove the common text - e.g. opening hours from the sidebar and consider a page specifically for that content
4. Try adding a unique paragraph to each page - this is easier said than done depending on your CMS but every little helps

Duplicate Content: Marketing Page / Content Page
So I am getting duplicate content warnings on my website for my pages white paper and webinar video pages. Each white paper / webinar video page is behind a marketing form page that must be filled out. I am getting a lot of warnings that the marketing page and the content page are being picked up as duplicated content. In the past, both the marketing page and the content page were given the same title and url, the body content is not similar. My question: Is the URL / Title similarity enough to set off the duplicate content warnings and would changing one or the other solve the issue?

Duplicate Content for Default Document Domains
I've noticed recently that within the Moz Crawl Report I keep seeing duplicate content for one of our pages that pulls from a default document. The pages are product pages, one ending in releases/ and the other ending in releases/index and are both identical pages. Normally in these situations I would prefer to make sure that every link is being sent to the releases/ page, however according to Moz, the releases/index page is actually ranking better and has a higher internal link count. Can someone advise me on the best way to deal with this situation? Hopefully I've explained myself well enough! Thanks Sam

Duplicate content across two websites
Hi. I'm looking at ways to compare duplicate content across two different websites instead of one, as with the Moz crawler. Instead it will flag up up duplicates present on both site A and B.

Duplicate content due to "Email a Friend" and "PhotoGallery"
Crawl Diagnostics gives me 1650 duplicate page content errors. 800+ are for photo gallery, the link upon which my large image is shown. 800+ are for the Email a Friend form page. Presumably SEOMoz's tool is getting there by following the link inside a product page, which as you can see will differ only by the ProductCode of every product.

www.completemobilehomesupply.com/EmailaFriend.asp?ProductCode=Shutter001 1 - Is it critical to fix?
I am assuming Yes, but if for some reason the answer is No, please share. 2 - Any idea on how to fix?
The site uses Volusion, fyi, so it may be a limiting factor of the platform. Thank you for your time.

How to remove Duplicate content due to url parameters from SEOMoz Crawl Diagnostics
Hello all I'm currently getting back over 8000 crawl errors for duplicate content pages . Its a joomla site with virtuemart and 95% of the errors are for parameters in the url that the customer can use to filter products. Google is handling them fine under webmaster tools parameters but its pretty hard to find the other duplicate content issues in SEOMoz with all of these in the way. All of the problem parameters start with ?product_type_ Should i try and use the robot.txt to stop them from being crawled and if so what would be the best way to include them in the robot.txt Any help greatly appreciated.

Should I worry about duplicate content errors caused by backslashes?
Frequently we get red-flagged for duplicate content in the MozPro Crawl Diagnostics for URLs with and without a backslash at the end. For example: www.example.com/ gets flagged as being a duplicate of www.example.com I assume that we could rel=canonical this, if needed, but our assumption has been that Google is clever enough to discount this as a genuine crawl error. Can anyone confirm or deny that? Thanks.
