Issue in number of pages crawled
-
i wanted to figure out how our friend Roger Bot works.
On the first crawl of one of my large sites, the number of pages crawled stopped at 10000 (due to the restriction on the pro account). However after a few weeks, the number of pages crawled went down to about 5500. This number seemed to be a more accurate count of the pages on our site.
Today, it seems that Roger Bot has completed another crawl and the number is up to 10000 again.
I know there has been no downtime on our site, and the items that we fixed on our site did not reduce or increase the number of pages we had.
Just making sure there are no known issues with Roger Bot before I look deeper into our site to see if there is an issue.
Thanks!

Hey Chirag
That is the point, if the crawler is seeing multiple versions of the same page, you will get a false page count.
If a single page resolves on multiple versions of the URL like...
/pagename
/pagename/
/pagename.html
Then one single page could get reported as three pieces of content.
So, if you have 100 pages, but all pages resolve on say two page names then it would show 200 pages BUT the duplicate content report should allow you to see if this is the case.
Hope that helps.

Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes the duplicate content report is quite large, but I am not certain why the number of pages crawled fluctuated by over 4000.
the Duplicate content number went down by over 2000 last week, and then went straight back up again. So I am not sure if the crawler missed something, or if there was some other issue going on.
Cheers

Hey Chirag
As a first suggestion, I would take a look at the duplicate content report and you may see some pages with multiple page names / urls giving a falsely inflated page count.

Pages with Temporary Redirects on pages that don't exist!
Hi There Another obvious question to some I hope. I ran my first report using the Moz crawler and I have a bunch of pages with temporary redirects as a medium level issue showing up. Trouble is the pages don't exist so they are being redirected to my custom 404 page. So for example I have a URL in the report being called up from lord only knows where!: www.domain.com/pdf/home.aspx This doesn't exist, I have only 1 home.aspx page and it's in the root directory! but it is giving a temp redirect to my 404 page as I would expect but that then leads to a MOZ error as outlined. So basically you could randomize any url up and it would give this error so I am trying to work out how I deal with it before Google starts to notice or before a competitor starts to throw all kinds at my site generating these errors. Any steering on this would be much appreciated!

Crawl diagnostics up to date after Magento ecommerce site crawl?
Howdy Mozzers, I have a Magento ecommerce website and I was wondering if the data (errors/warnings) from the Crawl diagnostics are up to date. My Magento website has 2.439 errors, mainly 1.325 duplicate page content and 1.111 duplicate page title issues. I already implemented the Yoast meta data plugin that should fix these issues, however I still see there errors appearing in the crawl diagnostics, but when going to the mentioned URL in the crawl diagnostics for e.g.: http://domain.com/babyroom/productname.html?dir=desc&targetaudience=64&order=name and checking the source code and searching for 'canonical' I do see: http://domain.com/babyroom/productname.html" />. Even I checked the google serp for url: http://domain.com/babyroom/productname.html?dir=desc&targetaudience=64&order=name and I couldn't find the url indexed in Google. So it basically means the Yoast meta plugin actually worked. So what I was wondering is why I still see the error counted in the crawl diagnostics? My goal is to remove all the errors and bring it all to zero in the crawl diagnostics. And now I am still struggling with the "overly-dynamic URL" (1.025) and "too many on-page links" (9.000+) I want to measure whether I can bring the warnings down after implementing an AJAX-based layered navigation. But if it's not updating it here crawl diagnostics I have no idea how to measure the success of eliminating the warnings. Thanks for reading and hopefully you all can give me some feedback.

Number of backlinks throughout time
From what I understand one important aspect in link building is how those backlinks have been acquired throughout time. So if a website gets a large number of backlinks in a short amount of time, the value of those links are reduced in the eyes of search engines. Is there a tool in SEOMoz (that i can't find) that would show the change of backlinks for my campaigns in the last one year?

What is the difference between the Rank Tracker and the On-page Optimization page?
Both of them track keywords. In the Rank Tracker, you add each keyword manually and you associate it with a URL. For On-page Optimization page, the URLs are generated automatically based on searches and traffic?

How do you assess how strong the page is at number one already?
Would it be a question of trawling their site for their keywords and content? Are there tools that find their weaknesses? Does a campaign against a top ranking site simply come down to cost and writing content that competes for the keywords - if they already have strong on and off page, link building and multiplicity in place?

On page links tool here at Seomoz
Hi Seomoz - first of all, thanks for the best SEO tools I have ever worked with (this is my first question in this forum, and also I just subscribed as a paying customer after the 30 days trial you guys offer). My question: After having worked for several weeks on getting the numbers of links in our forum on www.texaspoker.dk down, we are somewhat surprised to see that we didn't succeed in getting lower numbers. For instance, this page: http://www.texaspoker.dk/forum/aktuelle-konkurrencer/coaching-projekt-bliver-du-den-udvalgte has (that's what Seomoz seo tool tells us): 239 on page links. Can this really be true? We can't find these links, and we actuually did a lot to lower the numbers of links, for instance the forum members picture was a link before, and also there was a "go to top" link in each post in the forum. Thanks a lot.

SEOMoz Pro still hasn't crawled 10k pages for one campaign
I looked for a question in the forum already for this but couldn't find anything. Perhaps I am using the wrong keywords, so I apologize if this is a duplicate. I recently signed up with SEOMoz Pro and added two campaigns. For one campaign, 10,000 pages were crawled. For the other campaign, only about 300. It's been 2 weeks since I created the campaigns. Is there a way to force a crawl of the site associated with the second campaign?

Too many links on a page - pull-down menus
SEOMoz is showing too many links on the page (www.ankinlaw.com). There clearly aren't 100 visible links on the page. Is it counting each page found on the (extensive) pull-down menu as a link? If not, where do all the links come from?
