Wordpress Design Pricing

Why on earth did you say you could get a quality template designed and coded for a few hundred bucks? Im a professional designer, I expect to make 75 an hour which is actually low. And you think I should be able to design and code a high quality wordpress site in a few hours. You are killing my business and encouraging people to hire low quality developers or take work out of America. Im very offended by your comments. Why dont you try living on 5 bucks an hour !! You just spit in the face of all good designers.

The original post was made in response to a comment in the SEO Moz Webinar today.

Back up for just a second. You've got a standalone post that sounds like a response to something. A post? A blog? What?
I agree that for custom you get what you pay for. I'm in a very custom business and we have to work hard at the "sweet spot" where people want to pay for custom. In software this gets very fuzzy. Templates can be free, cheap, expensive or custom. Every user has to assign that value and make that determination themselves. What was probably being said was that a designer could make a template and sell it at $XXX a pop. You sell a few of those and you could make the money you want. Without the original post, tho, that's just a guess

Hi Dave
Not every local business can afford or even needs a uniquely designed site costing them 1000's of dollars. Often a decently constructed and designed template (and they do exist) will meet both their business needs and their budget.
If you are unable to differentiate to a custimer the advantages of your skills and service over a template provider then that is not the fault of SEO Moz who are providing SEO and CRO advice in the webinar.
Please note I have no affiliation with SEO Moz and am actually a freelance web designer whose day job includes SEO so I have feet in both camps.

Has anyone transferred a site from WordPress to Webflow?
We're thinking about making the move, but I'm (mildly) concerned about SEO implications.

New Re-design will my website rankings drop?
Hi guys, I have had to re-design my site although we are only 4 months into the seo game we have seen some good progress with our rankings. My question is there anything I need to consider before implementing the new designs so it doesn't effect my current rankings or any of our SEO work. Our current designs are content thing and so we have had to create more content to better optimize our site, however if doing so will this loose our current ranking position? Apperciate any advice around this Thanks

2 or more wordpress installs on 1 domain
Hi ....I need to know if anyone has any concerns of running 2 or more WordPress installs on one domain and if so what would the concerns be. The situation is that we have a static html site that has a WordPress blog....and it is installed in example.com/blog/ . We will upgrade the static site to WordPress and this WordPress install will be in example.com/monkeys/ and then we will point its address to the root and make all other needed changes when ready to go live...but the install will stay in its own directory. So bottom-line is we have one domain with two WordPress installs that are each installed in their own sub directory and run from their own independent databases. There are quite a number of reasons for us to want to do this but I wont get into that......I just want to know if anyone has any concerns with this setup? The research we have done says its OK as well as our hosting provider....but before we get cracking we thought maybe one more "educated" input would make us feel more comfortable. Thanks

Online Catalog (E-commerce like) Wordpress Themes?
I'm currently looking for a Wordpress theme similar to e-commerce/shopping websites like ebay. I'm planning to put up a buy and sell site for shoes where people can upload shoe listings on their own.. The site we're planning doesn't have a buy/checkout button and paypal integration so it will look like more of an online catalog and not a shopping cart. We will just add a contact number/email in the product listing so a buyer can contact and personally meet the seller. Let me know if this can be done in Wordpress + e-commerce plugins. I would also like to know if there's a WP plugin that will allow users to use Facebook or Twitter to login/sign up in our website/platform. Let me know if this is possible in Wordpress by installing a plugin. Thanks in advance!

‘80-90% of SEO already done for you in Wordpress’ Am I missing something?
Hi there, I’m looking for some feedback on a statement made on my Facebook Page re Wordpress and SEO. Please understand I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but I am competent and achieve satisfactory results for clients, more so since becoming a SEOmoz Pro user, I’ve just had some great results for a client using SEOmoz guidelines in ‘On Page SEO Reports’ thank you very much! A comment however made on my FB page has got my interest…. “as you (kn)no(w) google loves WP and will get listed quicker as 80 to 90% of your SEO is already done” Does Wordpress (or Joomla for that matter mentioned in the same conversation) have some SEO advantages that Google loves as the poster would have me believe, can I save time and effort working in word press from an SEO point of view? I use the age old techniques of targeting key phrases and words and distributing them accordingly. Creating internal link structures with ‘key worded anchor text’ etc before embarking on any off page SEO. Do any of you vastly experienced (in comparison to me) SEO folk have any insight into what this statement refers to? I did not gather any references to SEO advantages in Wordpress or Joomla in the Enge and Fishkin et al book The Art of SEO, or any of the other books I’ve read, to develop my knowledge on SEO for the benefit of my clients and of course my pocket. Can someone suggest a good wordpress plugin for compressing images?
I am building a new website and it has 500+ photo images. I've got less than 100 in there at the moment and the page speed is already very slow. I'm trying to reduce the size of the images before uploading but without a photoshop application it is very difficult. Are there any great plugins for wordpress that can help?

Migrating a site to Wordpress
I've recently been converting our old website to a wordpress based website and been working on the new version of the site on a subdomain. Now at the stage when I am getting ready to let the site go live and just wondering exactly how to do this so I have minimal downtime? Looking in the wordpress control panel there is the setting to enter the address of the site if you want it to be different from the directory it has been installed within - is this a good idea (i.e. is it stable if I do this? good for seo, bad for seo or makes no difference?)? or should I manually install everything in the root myself (if I do this is there a way to direct people to the temp version of the site on the subdomain? Any tips, do and don't s would be appreciated as I want to do this right!

How does using a CMS (i.e. Wordpress/Drupal) affect backlinks and SEO?
So I need to build a website with over 100 pages in it. Elements of the design will probably be moved around and or tested so I need to use a CMS. It's pretty much a review site so while the content will remain static I'd like to employ A/B testing to mess with conversion rates. Wordpress has a plugin for that even. So I'm just wondering, since CMS pages are pretty much created on spot and not retrieved from a library, how this affects backlinks and anchor text? How exactly does the external website point to yours if the URL is dynamically generated? Or am I misunderstanding something? Please recommend any extra resources as well if you can.
