Extra Sub Directory

Anything wrong with a URL structure like:
www.mysite.com/process/widgets/red-widgets
Where the DIR: /process/ is completely empty e.g. you get a 404 if you go to www.mysite.com/process/ and it has no content within.
This URL structure was setup before they knew what SEO was...wondering if it's worth the pain the 301 and restructure new URLs or is it ok to leave as is?
-
If your rankings are good then I would leave it as it is.. put it on the list of future plans and then change it if you do some major dev work that requires you to change urls
-
Our rankings are good. We've got a ton of content we'd have to redirect.
No one is actually hitting /process/ and it's not appearing as a 404 in WMT...someone internally happened to point it out and was wondering if there's any negative implications with Google.
It doesn't appear that there is anything bad happening but just want to be sure.
-
I would say it depends what your rankings are like and also how many pages you will need to redirect.
If you leave it as it is you should put some content on the www.mysite.com/process/ page to stop people encoutering the 404, it will make the site more useful

What directory should a site go in (url structure)?
Hi All, The is the first actual SEO campaign i've worked on and I had a few question about where the site should live on the server and url structure. The site is in WP and we're using Yoast SEO. Anyway the site lives in a a folder called Coastal, which is a child of the WWW folder. So the permalink of the homepage is mcoastalwindows.com/coastal/. The URL is mycoastalwindows.com. The thing is I can still get to the homepage or any of the pages on the site by typing in the /coastal/. Another example is permalink mycoastalwndows.com/coastal/siding/ and url mycoastalwindows.com/siding/. The urls always display without the /coastal/, so I'm not too worried about people linking to them, but Yoast puts a canonical element to the permalink and always includes the /coastal/. Also I'm seeing that Google displays a lot of the urls with the /coastal/, which is an issue seeing as we don't link to the pages that way. My original thought was to solve this at the source and just move everything out of the coastal directory, but the developer swears that it's more secure being in another folder especially with WP. What would you all do and what is best practice? Would you move everything out of the coastal folder, 301 re-direct, do something with. htaccess, or another solution? Appreciate the input thanks!

Does a sub-domain benefit a domain...
I have seen some mixed comment as the whether a sub-domain would benefit from the authority built up by its domain... but does a domain benefit from a sub-domain?

Webmaster Tools - Clarification of what the top directory is in a calender url
Hi all, I had an issue where it turned out a calender was used on my site historically (a couple of years ago) but the pages were still present, crawled and indexed by google to this day. I want to remove them now from the index as it really clouds my analysis and as I have been trying to clean things up e.g. by turning modules off, webmaster tools is throwing up more and more errors due to these pages. Below is an example of the url of one of the pages: http://www.example.co.uk/index.php?mact=Calendar,m1a033,default,1&m1a033year=2084&m1a033month=3&m1a033returnid=59&page=59?phpMyAdmin=xxyyzz The closest question I have found on the topic in Seomoz is: http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-content-issue-6 I want to remove all these pages from the index by targeting their top level folder. From the historic question above would I be right in saying that it is: http://www.example.co.uk/index.php?mact=Calendar I want to be certain before I do a directory level removal request in case it actually targets index.php instead and deindexes my whole site (or homepage at the very least). Thanks

Transfer a Main Domain to a Sub-Domain
My IT department tells me they want to transfer my main site domain, which has been in existence since 1999 as an e-commerce site (maindomain.com) to a sub-domain (www2.maindomain.com) or a completely new domain (newdomain.net). This is because we are launching a new website and B2C e-commerce engine, but we still have to maintain the legacy B2B e-commerce engine which contains hard-coded URLs, and both systems can't use the same domain. I've been researching the issue across SEOmoz, but I haven't come across this exact type of scenario (mostly I've seen a sub-domain to new domain). I see major problems with their proposal, including negative SEO impact, loss of domain authority/ranking and issues with branding. Does anyone know the exact type of impact I can expect to see in this scenario and specific steps I should go about to minimize the impact? Btw, I will be using Danny Dover's guide on properly moving domains where appropriate. Thanks!

Change name of directory
How can I best change the name of a directory on my website (example: http://www.website.com/nameofdirectory/)? The directory has lots of content included in it which has links from all over my website. I guess I have to adjust those links? How do I easily collect all of the links? Which is the code I should use in my htacces? Thank you! With kind regards,

Sub pages Vs subdomain Pagerank flow.
I Have Question about Pagerank flow:
Technical SEO | | tommytai
If ihave a site :domain.com and i have 2 solutions like:
Solution #1: Quote: | domain.com/blog and domain.com/video if i try to do :
Root domain only link to
domain.com/video and
domain.com/blog | Solution #2: Quote: | Root domain only link to
video.domain.com and
blog.domain.com | So <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> domain.com/blog = <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> blog.domain.com ?
and <acronym title="Google PageRank">PR</acronym> domain.com/video = <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> video.domain.com ? And don't know why a subdomain of blogspot or Wordpress ranking easier than a new domain like:keyword.wordpress.com and keyword.com So What Wordpress pass to keyword.wordpress.com ?0
