Best hosting solution for linkbait videos
-
I'm creating a series of link bait videos. I want people to link to the pages on my site hosting the videos. What's the best site to host them on, if my primary concern is to get do-followed links?
I'm worried about putting them on YouTube, as I imagine most of the links will be to the page on youtube.com, or worse, just directly embedded.

I would recommend using either Vimeo Pro or Wistia. Both are excellent out of the box solutions that work for link building.
Of these, Vimeo pro is the cheapest, but Wistia is probably better. With wistia's "superembeds" embed code generator, it allows you to quickly build out your video player style to include social buttons and embed boxes which will help to encourage people to share the content, while ensuring everything is secure and indexable by Google.

That's a little outside of my ability range. Anything turnkey, as easy to use as YouTube, but with more control over the content?

i dont like the youtube idea either. i like to have control over my content
i dont what your skills are as far as web development are. but this is what I would do.
Get a account with Windows Azure (microsofts cloud), use this for your cdn, host all your images and vidioes scripts and css files. you can host your whole site if you want. but just using the cdn is very cheap.
Then make a video viewer, i use silverlight but you can use flash, i am sure there is plenty of ready made solutions, and point to the video on Azure.
costs can be as little as 10c a month, even if you are very busy i doubt costs woul dbe more then a few dollars a month.

Any recommendations for a lightweight and ADA compliant video player?
Howdy Mozzers, We're looking to make our website ADA compliant and in doing so are switching our videos from Wistia to an ADA complaint player. Our main concern in switching video players is page load time, so the more "lightweight" the better. We're currently looking into Brightcove and JWPlayer... any others I should look into? Any recommendations would be appreciated! -Alex

Best SSL Certificate to Use
I am setting up an ecommerce website that will sell batteries and like most e-commerce sites we will be taking credit cards. I was exploring the different SSL certificates and providers and I was shocked at the difference in pricing. Anywhere from free to over $1000! What is really necessary and what is nice to have? Any suggestions on SSL providers? Thanks

Best way to indicate multiple Lang/Locales for a site in the sitemap
So here is a question that may be obvious but wondering if there is some nuance here that I may be missing. Question: Consider an ecommerce site that has multiple sites around the world but are all variations of the same thing just in different languages. Now lets say some of these exist on just a normal .com page while others exist on different ccTLD's. When you build out the XML Sitemap for these sites, especially the ones on the other ccTLD's, we want to ensure that using <loc>http://www.example.co.uk/en_GB/"</loc> <xhtml:link<br>rel="alternate"

hreflang="en-AU"
href="http://www.example.com.AU/en_AU/"
/>
<xhtml:link<br>rel="alternate"
hreflang="en-NZ"
href="http://www.example.co.NZ/en_NZ/"
/> Would be the correct way of doing this. I know I have to change this for each different ccTLD but it just looks weird when you start putting about 10-15 different language locale variations as alternate links. I guess I am just looking for a bit of re-affirmation I am doing this right.</xhtml:link<br></xhtml:link<br> Thanks!0 -
Who's best but affordable custom shopping cart provider (e.g. 3dcart, big commerce, shoppingcart)?
I'm planning to put up a buy and sell site for shoes where people can upload shoe listings on their own something like ebay.com though we're not the ones who will process the payment. The site we're planning doesn't have a buy/checkout button and paypal integration so it will look like a catalog. We will just add a contact number/email in the product listing so a buyer can contact and personally meet the seller. Let me know if this can be done in Wordpress + e-commerce plugins. I would also like to know if there are custom shopping cart providers that allow Facebook or Twitter login/sign up integrated in the platform. Let me know if this is also possible in Wordpress by adding a plugin. Thanks in advance!

Best way of conserving link juice from non important pages
If I have a bunch of non important pages on my website which are of little use in the SE's index - IE contact us pages, pages which are near duplicate and conflict with KW's targetting other pages etc, what is the best way of retaining the link juice that would normally be passed to these pages? Most recent discussion I have read has said that with nofollow you effectively just loose link juice, as opposed to conserving it, so that doesn't seem a great option. If I do "noindex" on these pages, would that conserve the link juice in the site, or again would it be just lost? It seems quite a tricky situation as many pages are legitimate for customer usability, but are not worth having in the SE's index and you better off consolidating link juice - so it seems you are getting penilised for making something "for users". Thanks
