SEOMoz Crawling Errors
-
I recently implemented a blog using WordPress on our website. I didn't use WordPress as the CMS for the rest of our site just the blog portion. So as an example I installed Wordpress in http://www.mysite/blog/" not in the root.
My error report in SEOMoz went from 0 to 22e. The Moz bot or crawler that SEOMoz uses is reporting a ton of 4xx errors to strang links that shouldn't exist anywhere on the site.
Example:
Good link - http://www.mysite/products.html
Bad link reported by SEOMoz - http://www.mysite/blog/my-first-post/products.html
I've also noticed that my page speed as become much slower as reported by Google.
Does anybody know what could be happening here? I know that typically it's better to install WordPress in the root and use it to control the entire site but I was under the gun to get a blog out.
Thanks

I just had a smack upside the head moment. I had all of the links in the main nav as absolute but my links in the footer were all relative. That was giving me my 404 errors.
Hopefully this will get me back on Google's good side. We dropped in the ranks a little for some of our main keywords.

Where you installed the blog shouldn't matter as any content in the blog will be structured under the directory you installed it in. I've run a few blogs out of sub directories with no issue.
If you're comparing your page speed from pre-blog to post-blog, chances are they'll be slower because of the nature of the blog. Every widget/plugin slows down your loading time, as may a poorly designed theme. Add the fact that you're using a database to serve your content, it slows down more, especially if you're on a shared hosting platform that has other sites doing the same thing.
As for your 404 error. Is products.html a page that's outside of the blog directory? If so, you have to hardcode the http://www.mysite.com in the href or the blog will auto append it's base directory on it.

Brandon,
Here is a quick check to try just based on the url you show. Go into posts and see if there are example theme or WP posts or post categories. Remove those. See if that will remove the errant url. Then look in permalinks and insure that you have decided how you want the permalinks structured. My guess is somehow it is in the permalinks. Here is a good description of them and how to set them: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#PATHINFO:_.22Almost_Pretty.22
Hopefully that will help (sorry for the less than in depth)

Duplicate Page Titles Issue in Campaign Crawl Error Report
Hello All! Looking at my campaign I noticed that I have a large number of 'duplicate page titles' showing up but all they are the various pages at the end of the URL. Such as, http://thelemonbowl.com/tag/chocolate/page/2 as a duplicate of http://thelemonbowl.com/tag/chocolate. Any suggestions on how to address this? Thanks!

60,000 404 errors
Do 404 errors on a large scale really matter? I'm just aware that I now have over 60,000 and was wondering if the community think that I should address them by putting 301 redirects in place. Thanks

Can Google Crawl This Page?
I'm going to have to post the page in question which i'd rather not do but I have permission from the client to do so. Question: A recruitment client of mine had their website build on a proprietary platform by a so-called recruitment specialist agency. Unfortunately the site is not performing well in the organic listings. I believe the culprit is this page and others like it: http://www.prospect-health.com/Jobs/?st=0&o3=973&s=1&o4=1215&sortdir=desc&displayinstance=Advanced Search_Site1&pagesize=50000&page=1&o1=255&sortby=CreationDate&o2=260&ij=0 Basically as soon as you deviate from the top level pages you land on pages that have database-query URLs like this one. My take on it is that Google cannot crawl these pages and is therefore having trouble picking up all of the job listings. I have taken some measures to combat this and obviously we have an xml sitemap in place but it seems the pages that Google finds via the XML feed are not performing because there is no obvious flow of 'link juice' to them. There are a number of latest jobs listed on top level pages like this one: http://www.prospect-health.com/optometry-jobs and when they are picked up they perform Ok in the SERPs, which is the biggest clue to the problem outlined above. The agency in question have an SEO department who dispute the problem and their proposed solution is to create more content and build more links (genius!). Just looking for some clarification from you guys if you don't mind?

Wordpress 4xx errors from comment re-direct
About a month ago, we had a massive jump in 4XX errors. It seems the majority are being caused by the comment tool on wordpress, which is generating a link that looks like this "http://www.turnerpr.com/blog/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.turnerpr.com%2Fblog%2F2013%2F09%2Fturners-crew-royal-treatment-well-sort-of%2Fphoto-2-2%2F" On every single post. We're using Akismet and haven't had issues in the past....and I can't figure out the fix. I've tried turning it off and back on; I'm reluctant to completely switch commenting systems because we'd lose so much history. Anyone seen this particular re-direct love happen before? Angela

Application/x-msdownload in crawl report?
In a crawl report for my company's site, the "content_type_header" column usually contains "text/html". But there are some random pages with "application/x-msdownload"... what does "application/x-msdownload" mean? <colgroup><col width="121"></colgroup>

Internal Link Counts in SEOMoz Report?
Hi, We ran a site diagnostic and it came back with thousands of pages that have more than 100 internal links on a page; however, the actual number of links on those pages seems to be far less than what was reported. Any ideas? Thanks! Phil UPDATE: So we've looked at the source code and realized that for each product we link to the product page in multiple ways - from the product image, product title and price. So we have three internal links to the same page from each product listing, which is being counted by the SEOMoz crawler as hundreds of links on each page. But in terms of the Googlebot, is this as egregious as having hundreds of links to different pages or does it not matter as much?
