Meta description Tag who should it be used and what should it describe?
-
Hi
when using the meta description tag how is it best used?
what should it describe? should it describe the topic or the services offered i.e should it be a sales message for the services.
For example: a page that promotes the benefits of acupuncture whilst pregnant should it describe the page content or the service provided?
i.e. acupuncture for pregnancy in Chester or acupuncture can benefit pregnancy because....

I would use the meta description tag synergistically with the intent of the page.
if the audience I was trying to reach was local the keyword phrase I'm optimizing for might be "Acupuncture for pregnancy in Chester" or if I wanted traffic from all over it might be "Benefits of Acupuncture during preganancy".
Let's assume local. In that case my title tag might be...
<title>Acupuncture for Pregnancy Chester | Company Name</title>
Of course, I'd include the relevant terms in my H1 tag, again in my content (bolded) with great, relevant copy.
(PS - I didn't count my characters for the title or meta description - remember to stay within the character limit recommendations)
Basically the content of the title tag, meta description, H1, bold and content should flow from your keyword research and intended audience.
That's my take on it,
Mark

Description of the website, not the subject the website is about.
You have 160 characters max, so you need to get the message across within that, the message should aim to increase the click through rate.
For example: Professional and affordable acupuncture services for pregnant women in Chester.
Or something like that.

Should I delete all tags and just use my categories to organize content?
My website NorthernCaliforniaHikingTrails.com/blog has 400 or so tags, and it also has an extensive set of categories. I'm thinking about deleting all the tags, but keeping the categories and consolidating them a bit. Is there a significant SEO advantage to having tags in my case? I've seen a few very high-ranking websites actually rank for a tag, but I doubt my site will reach that level. Any help appreciated!

Do I use H1 tag for logo or page content?
Should the h1 tag be used for the main page content or the logo? I understand the original method was too H1 the logo with the main search term, does this still hold true or should it be content focused?

Meta refresh
What does this mean? That isn’t an address on the website (fdmgroup.com)?All I can think of is that there may be some email address incorrectly entered on the blog somewhere – but it’s not a meta-refreshLooking at the referring page http://www.fdmgroup.com/fdm-group-speaks-out-against-the-revelation-that-one-in-four-graduates-fail-to-find-work/ - a blog entry from 2011 – it seems someone’s tried to attach google tracking code to the email address? Thanks in advance.

tags inside <a>tags - is this bad?</a>
Hi, I'm currently redesigning my website, and in many places, I've now decided to make links a little bit more obvious for the user, using tags within a <a>tag in order to make the entire block of text clickable. I was just wondering if this could have a negative impact in the search engines. My gut feeling is no, since I'm actually improving usability, but I guess it could have an impact on how Google looks at the anchor text? An example of the HTML is as follows: </a> <a></a> <a></a> [Cristal Night Club Hotels <address>1045 5th Street

The use of subdomains to improve SEO?
A clients website which provide a number of trade services which have a page for each service they provide for example: carpentry or electrician or plumbing etc. currently these pages are found at domain.co.uk/bathrooms/ bathrooms.html I am trying to optmise each page better as they are competing with other sites who for example sell bathrooms rather than bathroom installers or plumbers. As part of the on page optimisation I plan to change the page names and directory structure. I had an idea to split the website down into subdomains for various sections i.e for all their services Create a sub domain such as http://plumber.domain.co.uk 2.) upload the relevant content (in this example the plumbing page) to the sub domain location 3.) correct all the links to absolute URLs for each sub domain / Will this help target better use of keywords in the URL in terms of SEO efforts ? hope it makes sense thanks Darren

What <h>Tag to Use For Global Navigation</h>
I've read several blogs discussing how including more than one H1 per page is a serious no no. However, what is the most effective <h>tag to use for your global navigation system. Or should it not be an <h>tag period?</h></h>
