Are moz analytics now redundant ?

Whilst there have been quite a few q & a's and one or two posts on the blog about the google onslaught on "unnatural" links, with over 1 million sites impacted I'm surprised Moz hasn't said more about this.
With google now muddying the waters even further about what is natural or not (with due respect to Moz, if you're not a brand like Moz, the vast majority of seo's buy some links one way or the other) with all the uncertainty, how is it now possible to trust any metrics about links ?
In essence, does Domain Rank and Domain Trust now mean anything in the new google world and can they be relied upon ?
No doubt someone will come back and say that a lot don't buy any links. Fair enough but the reality is that most do some kind of deals for links, writing in niches like law it is very difficult to get people to share content. Simply a fact.
The Serps are in a mess. Google has replaced many decent sites who played the game to one degree or another, with a lot of sites that are worthless, not bothering with links or content,, so rising by default ! Directory sites seem to be doing better again, because, you guessed it, they are brands like yell.

Yeah, I'll have a look, thanks. The problem is this, I manage over 100 sites, 2 have received the dreaded warning - they have a small amount of spam I admit, others have more. None of the sites I manage have even 30% links spam. Simply impossible to know what google considers spam. I guess that means it has to be 100% white hat, but we all know that many will continue to test the boundaries, and do it successfully> Point is, the rules of the game have never been clear, and personally, i think there's a big ppc agenda at google.

Some reciprocal links are fine - those that are given without the intent to manipulate Google. However, when SEOs talk about reciprocals, we usually mean a link that is only in existence because both parties are trying to manipulate Google's rankings. Those won't generally fly.
Guest posting is almost always 100% white hat, unless the quality of the sites is extremely low, the links are terribly obvious spam or you're engaging in "article spinning" and not true guest authoring on real, quality sites with editorial standards.
There are literally thousands of awesome ways to get great editorial links, and I disagree that most sites must buy/spam to acquire. If you need to get started on some ideas, I'd check out http://www.seomoz.org/blog/category/4

Thanks Rand, how do you define "non-editorially" acquired - some forums are saying that guest blogging is now spam. Google needs to make it much clearer, are reciprocal links allowed, if so, what proportion etc etc. No doubt they won't and you would say go white hat only, but many seo's are faced with the dilemma and that's they don't want to be black hat, but what is safe anymore. Apart from sites like your fantastic one, many face a huge dilemma, clients want results, and results means rankings ......

Google's always done this, they've just been more aggressive recently. Moz metrics should still be useful to help separate the wheat from the chaff, but any non-editorially-acquired links will always be risky.

We are working on a MozSpam score. Starting some data collection for a training model next week actually. I'd expect 4-6 months before it rolls out, but hopefully will be useful for exactly this kind of thing.

SEO has NEVER been certain, it has also never been static.
Google has made changes in the algo for years, they will continue to make changes.
As Google changes SEO changes right along with it.
5 years ago we used meta tags that we stuffed with keywords, now those tags have been devalued so much that they are no longer used.
4 years ago we used to make changes in our sites then sit on your hands and wait, now we make a title tag change and it is indexed by afternoon tea.
3 years ago we used to tweak our content, tags, titles, then we had to wait for the "Google Dance" that only happened once a quarter or so....THAT would shift all the SERPS up down and sideways...now, SERPS happen overnight...
Now we have image search, php sites are searchable, videos....
In the grand scheme of things SEO has always shifted, and thus what the ALGO values or devalues is also shifting. So yes links values have also shifted as they always have.
Understanding SEO is understanding an entire concept, not just bits and pieces....
The broad concept is that Google is fighting is SEO for SEO's sake & not for peoples sake. The people & SEO companies who understand that will always be ahead of the pack, those that don't will be left behind in the SERPS.

The point I am making is that as google decides what's natural and what's not, what's trustworthy and what's not, and has decided that over a million websites so far are now not trustworthy, do the Moz analyitics or other link in this new landscape mean anything ?
You may say that google is cleaning house (or maybe simply pushing ppc ? by making seo uncertain and more expensive), but this has turned seo on it's head for the vast majority of non-brand sites, and those in niches where links are hard to come by, no matter how much effort is put in.

The internet is huge, gigantic, enormous...It can't be measured accurately.
Even the gods at Google Analyicitcs say themselves they can't measure the entire internet.
Link reports are more of a guideline then a rule. Yes it is very frustrating to learn that after reports and more reports from differing places you are trying to measure something that just can't be measured...Might as well measure how many flies are in your back yard right now....
With links the tracking tools give us an idea of where we are and a goal for where we want to be....
We "know" if we start with 21 domains and 82 links we can see those "measured" links.
That information tells us a little about where to go.
A blogger friend we forgot we can call up and do another round of posts for.
A new blog we did not know about that is now linking to us. (we call get more links through guest posts)
A clients blog that loved us so much we should call them up and get more orders.
An older forum we had forgotten about, time to get back to posting about our favorite subject.
Old out of date websites, time to call up your code monkey buddies & chat with them about updating their content...& thus your links...
So we do all these things and we run more reports, after a while the links add up, the information and industry contact ads up even faster....

Moz was unable to crawl your site? Redirect Loop issue
Moz was unable to crawl your site on Jul 25, 2017. I am getting this message for my site: It says "unable to access your homepage due to a redirect loop. https://kuzyklaw.com/ Site is working fine and last crawled on 22nd July. I am not sure why this issue is coming. When I checked the website in Chrome extension it saysThe server has previously indicated this domain should always be accessed via HTTPS (HSTS Protocol). Chrome has cached this internally, and did not connect to any server for this redirect. Chrome reports this redirect as a "307 Internal Redirect" however this probably would have been a "301 Permanent redirect" originally. You can verify this by clearing your browser cache and visiting the original URL again. Not sure if this is actual issue, This is migrated on Https just 5 days ago so may be it will resolved automatically. Not sure, can anybody from Moz team help me with this?

Curious, have you ever had a client dispute your Moz Ranking Report?
one of my international clients from China does not believe that his site is now on page #2 for a national search term. He said he had a colleague search from a location in the United States and his site did not come up in any of the top 10 Google search page results. Suggest any ways to back ranking up? Maybe use an additional rank report? appreciate any/all suggestions. THanks! Chris

Was hit with panda in 2012, what to do now?
Hi Folks, back in june 2012 when link building was the thing and I had no idea how to do it and hence outsourced link building. Company 1 would write a post and distribute it on multiple different domains after spinning it. Company 2, after company 1 was fired did directory submissions on PR0 websites for two months before i discontinued the service with them. I still have the excel file of the links they built. It goes without mentioning that the links were junk. When panda came about our website was hit. Back then i let it slide and we stopped link building and started doing things "white hat". Genuinely doing good things so to say. I never however did anything to fix the penalty. Now i would like to look back at that issue and see if the penalties are still holding us back and if I can do anything to fix it. Should I address this issue now or is it too late to matter? How would i do it, a link audit through a freelancer? What do you SEO mozters recommend?

Do Ghost Traffic/Spam Referrals factor into rankings, or do they just affect the CTR and Bounce Rate in Analytics?
So, by now I'm sure everyone that pays attention to their Analytics/GWT's (or Search Console, now) has seen spam referral traffic and ghost traffic showing up (Ilovevitaly.com, simple-share-buttons.com, semalt.com, etc). Here is my question(s)... Does this factor into rankings in anyway? We all know that click through rate and bounce rate (might) send signals to the algorithm and signal a low quality site, which could affect rankings. I guess what I'm asking is are they getting any of that data from Analytics? Since ghost referral traffic never actually visits my site, how could it affect the CTR our Bounce Rate that the algorithm is seeing? I'm hoping that it only affects my Bounce/CTR in Analytics and I can just filter that stuff out with filters in Analytics and it won't ever affect my rankings. But.... since we don't know where exactly the algorithm is pulling data on CTR and bounce rate, I guess I'm just worried that having a large amount of this spam/ghost traffic that I see in analytics could be causing harm to my rankings.... Sorry, long winded way of saying... Should I pay attention to this traffic? Should I care about it? Will it harm my site or my rankings at all? And finally... when is google going to shut these open back doors in Analytics so that Vitaly and his ilk are shut down forever?

Huge diifference linking root domains in SEO MOZ and opensite explorer
Hi there, I have fairly large site that has never really been optimised. I think an old forum i hosted has either been spammed or my webmaster at the time used some black hat techniques to get me more root linking domains. I am a newbie and would really appreciate if someone could just quickly look at my donain and confirm that this is a problem and something i should fix before i start my SEO campaign. I am also worried this will negatively effect my domain authority. I dont really want to broadcast my domain so if anyoone would be so kind to confirm the problem so i cant start to research the answer. Thanks v much

Can Using Google Analytics Make You More Prone to Deindexation?
Hi, I'm aggressively link building for my clients using blog posts and have come upon information that using Google Analytics (as well as GWT, etc.) may increase my chance of deindexation. Anyone have any thoughts on this topic? I'm considering using Piwik as an alternative if this is the case. Thanks for your thoughts, Donna

Purchased an expiring domain, Now the pagerank has gone.
A few days ago I had asked a question regarding purchasing an expiring domain to redirect to a new related site. The post can be found here >>> http://www.seomoz.org/q/purchasing-an-expiring-domain-with-quality-related-links The domain has some great links with several being from PR5 pages on nih.gov aswell as several keyword rich domains. This made my day and I ended up paying $309 for it. So today I have the domain with the registrar network solutions who I believe are owned by Google, not sure if that is the truth or not as I can't find any info on that. now my domain is no longer indexed in Google and the toolbar's pagerank has dropped from a 4 to a 0. It was not my choice to use network solutions but namejet only use them or ENOM. I have now installed a wordpress site on the domain to see if any pagerank exist, if it does then the site will shortly be indexed in Google without me building any links to it. Just 2 days ago the site was in Google, had the correct info:domainname.com command and now the info: command shows nothing. the site is either banned or all of the actual pagerank has been removed by Google. I am a little bit dissapointed in this even though it was initially an experiment to see if I could purchase good links through expiring domains. The thing is I am seeing people purchase domains with good links in excess of $3000. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
