WordPress blog hosted on GoDaddy domain mapping help

We set up a WP blog that's hosted through GoDaddy. For various reasons, we purchased a URL to use to get through the technical build and set up and are trying to map that to a subdomain of our company website. (We can't host it on our own server, unfortunately).
My question is: for WP blogs hosted via WP you can buy a domain mapping upgrade and I'm trying to find a similar plugin that could offer the same thing that would apply to our GoDaddy hosting and point to our subdomain (GD apparently doesn't offer the domain mapping).
Anyone have any thoughts, please?

I know this is an old question but I wanted to ask if using MultiSite and Domain Mapping had any negative impact on search rankings? Or do the search engines treat the mapped domain as a completely unique domain?

Hi Andrea,
No I didn't need a dedicated IP address when setting up MultiSite. That being said I 've not installed MultiSite on shared hosting before. I would try installing it and setting it up first on the shared hosting first.
A dedicated IP isn't necessary.

One last random question, pls: have you had to purchase a dedicated IP if using shared hosting? I think we may need to but before we go making this bigger without promise of it paying off, I thought I'd see if you maybe had run into this and how it may have turned out? Pls.

Yeah I found that same issue, that's why I went down the route of setting up a MultiSite installation. Hope you can get everything sorted out

I've had a quick look, and I think Ben has the right idea by trying that plugin. I found two resources for you to go along with it:

I think between the plugin Ben mentioned and those resources, that should get you there.

Dan, small world, indeed! Correct; we tried and ended up in an infinite loop with our Apache system and my web designer has been trying a plug in or two to see if there's a way to map the domain. We seem to be hitting all kinds of random hiccups and as none of us are network admin savvy, I thought this may be a good place for the road less traveled. Thanks for reaching out! Andrea.

You used www.wordpress.org (not .com) and installed a WP blog on a domain hosted with Go Daddy? In other words, you installed the WP files etc into your Go Daddy hosting account?

And you want that blog to map to like blog.yourdomain.com ?

You could always setup a multi-site installation of WordPress and use the following plugin.
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping
This should do what you're after, if it doesn't let me know and I can have a think about how we can sort this out for you.

I wish - setting up an alias like that doesn't gel with how WP handles domain mapping. It broke all our links out.

Isn't this more of a DNS question? Shouldn't it just go:
site.tempurl.com is an alias for newsite.realurl.com?
And then you change the base domain/config in WordPress so it never references tempurl.com ever again?

Wordpress Tag Organization Tips
Curious if anyone has some good examples of ways to organize your WordPress tags without making your sidebar a football field long and hard to navigate. My blog is https://karmahill.com/blog and I could use some ideas. We have main categories of photo shoot types, for example, "Couples", located on the sidebar. We want to add tags to go with those main categories for further categorization and user experience example: Couples Engagement Proposals Honeymoon Maternity My question is, do I need to make "tag" pages for those posts to reside on or is their another way to get it done with less work, that is much faster? Does having too many wordpress portfolio pages with little content hurt a site's SEO?
I have a site that is for a service company, not image based like a photographer or artist. We utilize the Portfolio feature to create a gallery of floor coating finishes (images of all the flooring finish options available) but this solution has created /portfolio/file-name pages for each image. These pages have no other content besides the image. I've run SEMrush audits on this site which shows a high percentage of pages with low text/code ratio and duplicate content (a lot of the finishes have very similar names). This site has been extremely slow to improve any visibility online (more than 9 months) and I'm wondering if this is a factor by possibly having a negative effect on our site. We initially chose the portfolio option because it was the best-looking solution for our users but we can certainly change it to another format if that is better. Thanks!

Wordpress SEO/Tag plugin recommendation for sports (soccer) website
I own a Wordpress website which covers soccer in the DC MD VA area called DMV Soccer http://www.dmvsoccer.com/ We write weekly recaps where we tag a player who has scored a goal or performed well in a game. For each player, obviously, a tag is created. What I'm looking for is a plugin or solution that would allow me to tag a player, but also automatically assign a team to that player so that the team name and player's name are optimized on the individual player's tag page. So if I were to tag George Murphy on a recap, and I assign him to a team, let's say DC United. The tag page would have a title, something like: George Murphy Soccer Player for DC United and the meta description: George Murphy, soccer player from MD who players for DC United archives Or something similar, if that makes sense. Should I skip using tags and instead start assigning each player as a sub-category under each team? I'd like to try to avoid that, because not each category will be based on a player. Any suggestions in terms of existing plugins or other recommendations?

Hi all, We got this error for almost a month now. Until now we were outsourcing the webdesign and optimization, and now we are doing it in house, and the previous company did not gave us all the information we should know. Help with Country selector pop up
Hi, We have just taken off our auto redirect on our sites so we now have separate domains - .co.uk, .de, .com, .fr, .eu, .com.au We are about to install a country selector that pops up. Its bit more of pros and cons answer I am after So the 2 options we considering are as follows The more complicated one with the following functionality across all sites in the case the example is having a French IP So I have a French IP – I arrive on French site = no pop up I arrive on UK site = pop up with text saying “you are on the UK site” and generates 2 button one saying“continue” and the other saying “take me to Tidy-books.fr” I arrive on the USA site = pop up with text saying you are on the US site and generates 2 button one saying “continue” and the other say “take me to Tidy-books.fr” I arrive on the German site = pop up with text saying you are on the DE site and generates 2 button one saying “continue” and the other say “take me to Tidy-books.fr” I arrive on the Australian site = pop up with text saying you are on the DE site and generates 2 button one saying “continue” and the other say “take me to Tidy-books.fr” I arrive on the European site = pop up with text saying you are on the EU site and generates 2 button one saying “continue” and the other say “take me to Tidy-books.fr” The other simpler option I have French Ip 1. .htaccess on wordpress multisites
Hi Moz fans, I have a site thats uses wordpress multisite. we have a number of sites set as subfolders i.e /en/ /de/ /us/ /fr/ ect. I need to force trailing slashes on each site as I currently have the pages being spidered as /about/ and /about and /iso-9001/ and /iso-9001. I have tried numerous things I have found online in the .htaccess and nothing is working. Can anyone HELP!!

Google search issue with exact domain
We had a site from Feb-2011 to Nov-2011 at the domain amcoexterminating.com. The site was pure HTML/CSS and the daily unique visitors steadily increased over that time. So all was fine. We then moved the site to a CMS (Joomla) on Dec. 6th. From that day forward, the daily visitors went into the tank. Before the move, if you typed "amcoexterminating.com" or "amco exterminating" into Google search, the site would be the first result (as you'd expect since those are the words that make up the actua domain). But we tried this yesterday and the site did not come up at all. NOT GOOD. It would work in Yahoo or Bing, but not in Google. So obviously, the problem with Google search directly affected the daily visitors. We just checked Webmaster tools yesterday (yes, this should have been done sooner, lesson learned) and it said "Site has severe health issues - Important page blocked by robots.txt". It listed the "important" page URL and it was just a link to an image. Regardless, I wiped out the Joomla created robots.txt file and added a new one and made it just say... User-agent: *Allow: / About 14 hours later, after the new robots.txt file was recognized by Google, the "severe health" message went away. However if I search in Google for "amcoexterminating.com", it still doesn't show up and the client is concerned (as they should be). Do you think the search engines just need more time to refresh? If so, once it refreshes, should the site show up first again right away? Or is it possible the robots.txt file had nothing to do with the issue? If so, what other things could I check into that might cause Google search to not find a site even if you search for exact domain name? Please share any and all things I should look into as I need to get this site showing in Google search again (as it was before moving to the CMS). Thanks!

Making a third-party hosted blog look like a folder on the main domain
I have a client that has a "completely pristine" Microsoft.net web environment that is unwilling to put a wordpress installation on their server. Their management team wants a wordpress blog for the marketing department. Is there a means where we can host the wordpress blog with a regular hosting company but yet have it appear as part of the main site e.g., mainsite.com/blog vs. having to put it in a subdomain (blog.mainsite.com) and lose all the SEO benefits of the blog content?
