Few questions regarding Rand's Over Optimization Video
-
I was just watching the Whiteboard Friday video and it was informative and good. Thank god, we always tried to stay natural and all of our websites are perfectly not in danger.
Anyways, I do have few questions :
- He said about internal links on inner pages. One of our site has a sidebar with a list of 10 items, which are our main services and we want users always to have a access to it, so we have placed it on the sidebar and it appears on all pages. Is it wrong ?
- About the links, we have a list of social bookmarking sites, like 450 sites, and all of them are PR2-PR5 sites, etc. We submit each of our product to those sites . Is it wrong ?
- And how to know, which is a low quality site and we should not submit the link there ?
- We receive like 10+ link requests per day and we place their links and they place ours on resources page. Is it wrong ?
- We write eZine article for all of our products/keywords and submit. Is it wrong ?
- Looks like, the old school link building method are going to go down the pit hole by Google. Whats the new way to build links ? This is making me crazy.

1. no thats fine, i believe from memory he was talking about excessive footer links.
2. not so much wrong, but proably a waste of time, PR% means little, as it does not mean the page you get your link on is PR5 and if the link is easy to get and serves little purpose other then giving links, then google is probably discounted the site and there fore will not pass anything.
3.you have to make that judgment yourself, but if anyone can get a link, there are no hurdles to pass, then its proabaly no good.
4. article sites are not worth anything, Matt Cutts has said as much, better of putting the articles on your own site and hope somthing links to them, Article sites are designed to get a link, Google knows that.
5. It has been that way for a while. Matt Cutts has said that some Directories still hold value, look for relevancy, a auto directory would be good for a auto site, a local directory is also good for local site, but the best links are earnt thougth good content that people want to link to. Asking people to link to you is a good way, but must be dome with style, just saying can i have a link is going to get you know where. do not buy links at all. Depending on the product you can look for bloggers or sites on your subject and say, we can send you a few packs of our product if you are interested in doing a peice on us. If they are interested say and oh can you link to us using this link text, thanks. There are many people that blog for nothing or are searching for their next idea, so they think why not.
Sorry no easy answers. But hope it helps

Video Transcript
Recently, Rand suggested posting a transcript of all videos. We have a video on our homepage and want to post the transcript, but posting it as text on our homepage itself isn't practical. Where do you suggest we post the video transcript in lieu of adding it to our homepage? Thank you! Rick

Can't find the keywords
I have taken over the SEO of our website and cannot find any record of the keywords/phrases associated with each page. Is there anyway to find out what the main keywords for each page are for each page?

Local SEO Citation Questions
I have checked out some great resources from Rand and others here on SEOMoz, as well as some other great articles written on YouMoz by you guys! I have two questions when it comes to citations for Local SEO though. I have heard that Google does not really take the address into consideration when indexing local citations. Instead it is a combination of the business name + phone number + area code. On one hand this makes a lot of sense as far as Google crunching all the information. You can achieve a fairly accurate citation with just those three things and still weed out a lot of the "brand mentions" as citations. However this conflicts with a lot of what I have been reading and watching as far as whiteboard Fridays and blogs here on SEOMoz. Can someone provide some insight or sources concerning this? Secondly, in case of SEO and Web Design companies, such as ourselves, who do not receive the "One Box" for Google localized search, do citations play any lesser role in ranking for localized seo keywords? I am not sure if there is a definitive answer to these questions or if they are open ended. Regardless any insight would be invaluable!

Some questions on Multilingual sites with domain strategy
hi seomoz addicted, i need your help.... did you see the webinar last friday? i totally agree with randfish,
Whiteboard Friday | | guidoboem
especially when he talks about redirection; To create my multilanguage site i inserted a php redirection on my site homepage that redirects visitors to the right domains. everything it was working fine when i realized that googlebot was no more able to index both sites becouse it was redirected only to one.... i think that i'll create an home page where visitor could select their language and then by setting a cookie that redirects only the returning visitors ... what do you think? I've just one doubt, shall i put this home page on both domain, and what will be the new url adress of my current home page? How the new home page have to look like ( in terms of seo )? i mean there will be only an image and two links for the .com and .it domain, isnn't it? and how to put the cookie for returning visitors? hope to have been clear thanks,

Over-optimized title tags and location
Hi, Question 1) I have gotten in the habit of putting e.g. Pizzas Birmingham, Pizzas Coventry, Brand name, for pizza outlets that straddle 2 towns / cities (which is often the case) - in title tags. I tried, for example, Pizzas, Birmingham & Coventry, Brand Name - and it didn't work as well. PS The Brand Name includes the word Pizzeria, not Pizzas. Both towns / cities will be key markets when I use the above format. But could this be seen as an over-optimization I'm thinking? Question 2) In one of my title tags, I have Pizzerias, Restaurants, City, Brand name which is working well, but that's 4 elements - is that too many? Is that an over optimization signal? Thanks in advance for your help

Is submitting a single piece of video content to a lot of different video sites spam?
In the past I have been told that you can use tools like Tube Mogul to auto submit a single piece of video content to lots of different video sites and that it is not considered spam. After watching Rand's Whiteboard Friday I am more skeptical of this tactic. Here are my list of reasons why doing this would and wouldn't be considered spam. This is not spam because: These video sites are individual sites with an individual user base. This is spam because: Google does not want duplicate content of any kind in the SERPs. I leaning towards spam but have seen this be very effective in the local space. So I'm torn.
