Google Algo Update Aftermath
-
So, how many of you got got killed on the recent updates?
-
I track a lot of websites, not carefully but from time to time check positions. Some of them are active clients, some of them I worked for before and I must say that this update seems as "ok done" with not many mistakes.
In general, around 50% of sites are on the same positions. Around 40% had slight improvements and 10% lost positions.
What I realized, and would like to know if you have same experiences is that this update was something like on "keyword based" level. On 5-6 websites which lost positions it looks strange because some #1 positions stayed at #1 and some dropped like from #1-#5 to #120-#200.
One website lost 60% of visits and it was my test website. I have 31 pages on that website and all of them looks like "word1 word2 different word" so it if for sure spam looking website. All the 30-40 keywords were in top20 and arond 10 #1. So it is "strange" that a lot of high ranked keywords went to #120+ positions but something like 5-6 keywords still #1.
Another thing, if I am not wrong, is that google focused also on the websites owned by same person who owns same niche websites. I have something like a partner with around 10 dental sites. 6-7 of them stayed pretty the same and 3-4 had slight drops, one had major drops. what is important is that all the content is unique, not spammy on all of them and links were pretty the same. I mean, he made links sometimes using the same source (rubbish) but a big number of links not in any connection so like 70% of links per site were "unique" sources. But again, in his case drops were like "per keyword", some keywords still on #1 and same website lost other keywords from top10 to #120+
Did you have same experiences maybe ?

I am reaping the benifits,
I have one client that has a original product, but has many compeditors with cheap or ripoff imitations, he was ranking above them anyhowe, but now he is the only selling site on page one, he is now competing with wikiopeadia, the NYT and other information sites only. Sales are up 25%.
Others have also seen some improvement and some compeditors gone. I cant complain.

Does Google Delay or Graduate SERP Changes?
You can request re-indexing of a single page via Google Search Console. It would seem to me you could use this feature to experiment with on-page changes to see the rank change to determine which changes have the most effect. For the sake of this thread, lets temporarily forget that the relative importance on various on-page factors has already been reverse engineered to a degree so we already have a general idea to som extent. It would seem to me if I were Google, I would introduce either a random delay period, or, temper rank change after reindexing. What I mean by that latter point is say a reindex takes a page from position 20 to 10. If it is 'tempered' so to speak on Day 2 after reindexing it might be at 18, day 5 it's at 16, day 7 it's at 16 until it reaches the actual "real" rank. Both the delay and or the tempering of rank change would make it difficult more difficult to reverse engineer relative importance of on-page factors. OR, does Google realize there are large SEO firms doing SEO over several years for many sites that can examine aggregate data to determine these factors so Google doesn't delay (aka sandbox) or temper rank changes due to manual re-indexing?

Google not taking Meta...
Hello all, So I understand that Google may sometimes take content from the page as a snippet to display on SERPs rather than the meta description, but my problem goes a little beyond that. I have a section on my site which updates everyday so a lot of the content is dynamics (products for a shop, every morning unique stock is added or removed), and despite having a meta description, title and receiving an 'A' grade in the MOZ on page grader, these pages never show up in Google. After a little research I did a 'site:www.mysite.com/productpage' in Google and this indeed listed all my products, but interestingly for every single one Google had taken the copyright notice at the bottom of the page as the snippet instead of the meta or any H1, H2 or P text on the page... Does anyone have any idea why Google is doing this? It would explain a lot to me in terms of overall traffic, I'm just out of ideas... Thanks!

Question about Google Search Results
I have a question regarding google search results. I have a website www.911signalusa.com when you type this into google search box the URL comes up repeatedly. I have several competitors here is one of them www.emergencycity.com when you type in their name it only come up as the first result. How did our SEO guys make this happen? I have another site tha when we type in the URL it only comes up as the first result. However when you do site:www.------.com All of these site are indexed in Google. It is not causing any problem we knoe of but it appears to me that our 1 site has it better? Or is it that maybe there are very minimal links to the site? Thank you for your time and consideration in answering my quesiton.

Bing/Yahoo! Updates
On March 27th I noticed a huge rankings drop across the board on a client site in Bing and Yahoo! After some research, I found this article on SEOroundtable (it also links back to a Webmaster World discussion). For this particular site we're talking a few dozen of keywords dropping off the first page, or even from the first page dropping out of the top 50. The only thing not affected were brand keywords. The site was recently relaunched, and has a fairly weak backlink profile right now. It doesn't use keywords in the domain (which was one of the things identified in the SEOroundtable article). Has anyone else noticed changes? If so, what do you attribute them to and how are you combating them?
