Pagerank mystery
-
Hello SEO brethren -
I've got a mystery I'm trying to solve. I work in house SEO at http://www.uncommongoods.com/
Our home page is a Pagerank 5. All of our sub-pages are Pagerank 0. Even this one below which has 276 links from 57 domains:
http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/recycled-wine-bottle-platters
Any clue what is going on here? Is a PR 0 typical for a page with this many links / linking domains?
Thanks!

No worries, best of luck with it

Hey Ben,
Great advice, I think you are dead on. Big help thank you!

In that case you will have all new URLs and the google toolbar won't be pulling off the data. This is why the homepage still has the PR as it hasn't changed.
It's just a case of waiting to get that back, you have done a redirect but it may take a while for these to be updated on the website. As the URL is different Google will still be waiting to update the toolbar.
I would personally not worry about it, at least you have the mozbar details.
Hope this helps,
Ben

Hey Ben thanks for your feedback.
We did change the extensions somewhat recently..We didn’t use .html, but we did use .jsp before a site redesign in October. So for instance, our item page URLs used to be:
www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?itemId=13271
and are now:
www.uncommongoods.com/product/pee-pee-teepees
We never had an extension on the homepage; for category pages (non-product pages), we made the switch around June 2010, and for the product pages and all other pages we made the switch in October 2010.
What would you suggest we do as a solution to get our page rank back?
-
Hi Zack,
Have you recently changed the extensions on your URLs? e.g. removed .html
This could be one cause.
Ben

Mysterious ave pageload time spikes since major redesign
Hello Moz Community, About six months ago, we completely redesigned our heavily trafficked website. We updated the navigation, made the site responsive, and refreshed all the site's content. We were hoping to get a rankings boost from all the hard work we put in, but sadly our traffic began to steadily decline. We started to notice that although overall page load speeds were comparable before and after the redesign if you compared them on an hourly basis, we saw random hourly spikes in ave page load speed post redesign. Here is a pic of our analytics comparing our hourly ave. page load speeds pre vs. post redesign: https://screencast.com/t/8WQeyhquHN (after is in blue, before in orange) We have spent around 3 months trying to figure out the underlying cause of the new load time spikes. My question is has anyone seen anything like this before? Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing the spikes? As far as we can tell, the spikes are indeed random and are not correlated to any particular time of day, our traffic, or other activity we are doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Eric 8WQeyhquHN

Knowledge Graph product carousel: The mystery of ranking
When you search for software-related terms, Google serves a carousel-style item above the organic listings. I've been assuming this is part of the Google Knowledge Graph. See http://imgur.com/a/TQpM5 The mystery lies in the selection of companies that are included in this carousel: the brands included are completely unrelated to the brands that rank well in the "normal" organic search listings. Giving that more color, here are the top 5 brands in "normal" organic search listings, for the query "invoice software," noting where they appear in the carousel: BRAND // normal organic search position // carousel position Wave // 1st // not present in carousel Quickbooks // 2nd // 1 NCHSoftware // 3rd // not present in carousel Invoicely // 4th // not present in carousel Freshbooks // 5th // not present in carousel Inversely, here are the top 5 in the carousel, noting where they appear in the "normal" organic search listings, again for the query "invoice software": BRAND // carousel position // normal organic search position Quickbooks // 1st // 2nd Zoho Office // 2nd // 9th Invoicera // 3rd // 15th Hiveage // 4th // 30th Apptivo // 5th // not present in first 10 pages of search results Here's an annotated image of the same thing: http://imgur.com/a/0Pa6j

--I represent a brand (I'd rather not mention which) that ranks super well in the normal organic search listings, but doesn't rank accordingly in the knowledge graph carousel. WHAT WE'VE TRIED implemented Schema markup updated Wikidata information updated Wikipedia information We've reviewed the code on the pages that DO appear in the carousel, and haven't found any common threads. Several weeks have passed since those initiatives. We've been re-indexed in that time, but are still not included in the search carousel. I've seen people suggest resources like this
https://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2299454/4-google-carousel-optimization-tips
but those tips aren't addressing this problem. Also, things like claiming your business or other local business validation (which we've done) don't seem material to a non-local product search (but stranger things have happened, I know...). A couple of SEOs have suggested AMP, but I've yet to see any authoritative info suggesting a link between AMP and desktop results. Any help appreciated! I will report back on my findings. This is a follow-up to a question I previously posted here: https://moz.com/community/q/kinds-of-organic-search-results-google TQpM5 0Pa6j0 -
Duplicate Content Mystery
Hi Moz community! I have an ongoing duplicate mystery going on here and I'm hoping someone here can answer my question. We have an Ecommerce site that has a variety of product pages and category pages. There are Rel canonicals in place, along with parameters in GWT, and there are also URL rewrites. Here are some scenarios, maybe you can give insight as to what’s exactly going on and how to fix it. All the duplicates look to be coming from category pages specifically. For example:
Technical SEO | | Ecom-Team-Access
This link re-writes: http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet-cases/amazon-kindle-cases-sleeves.html?cat=407&color=152&price=20- To: http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet-cases/amazon-kindle-cases-sleeves.html The rel canonical tag looks like this: http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet-cases/amazon-kindle-cases-sleeves.html" /> The CONTENT is different, but the URLs are the same. It thinks that the product category view is the same as the all products view, even though there is a canonical in there telling it which one is the original. Some of them don’t have anything to do with each other. Take a look: Link identified as duplicate: http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartphone-cases/htc-smartphone-cases/htc-windows-phone-8x-cases.html?color=27&price=20- Link this is a duplicate of: http://www.incipio.com/cases/macbook-cases/macbook-pro-13in-cases.html Any idea as to what could be happening here?0 -
PageRank flow and distribution?
I'm confused about PageRank flow inside a domain.. Please provide me with an well explained guide about flow of Pagerank as I know, i think it flows from homapage to internal pages and then internal pages to homepage. I think I'm wrong. Also, every page has its own PR, if I give backlinks to external website from my internal pages, is it going to impact the homepage's pr and authority? Highly confused.. 😕

HTML Forms Dilute Pagerank?
Today, we have way too many links on our homepage. About 30 of them are add-to-basket links (regular html links) pointing to a separate application. This application 302 redirects the client back to the referring page. I have two questions: 1. Does the current implementation of our buttons dilute pagerank? Bear in mind the 302 redirect. 2. If the answer to the first question is yes, would transforming the buttons into form buttons change anything to the better? We would still 302 back to the referring page. I know Gbot follows GET forms and even POST forms, but does GBot pass on pagerank to the form URL?

Sub pages Vs subdomain Pagerank flow.
I Have Question about Pagerank flow:
Technical SEO | | tommytai
If ihave a site :domain.com and i have 2 solutions like:
Solution #1: Quote: | domain.com/blog and domain.com/video if i try to do :
Root domain only link to
domain.com/video and
domain.com/blog | Solution #2: Quote: | Root domain only link to
video.domain.com and
blog.domain.com | So <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> domain.com/blog = <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> blog.domain.com ?
and <acronym title="Google PageRank">PR</acronym> domain.com/video = <acronym title="Google PageRank">Pr</acronym> video.domain.com ? And don't know why a subdomain of blogspot or Wordpress ranking easier than a new domain like:keyword.wordpress.com and keyword.com So What Wordpress pass to keyword.wordpress.com ?0 -
