Best tools for exploring links?
-
and not just every single link, but ones you know that Google is actually indexing. I find seomoz to be super easy, but there is no way to distinguish links that are actually counting "juice", or am i missing something.
What about majesticseo - any other similar tools you use when trying to find linking sites that pass juice?
-
thanks, been using majestic SEO - pretty sweet actually as it has been finding links from 2007 that were actually broken so i could fix them

No worries Ryan : )

Thanks for adding them John. I have not looked at Majestic in a while. Thanks to your suggestion I'll give them another look.

Great response from Ryan (thumbed up!)
I'd also add Majestic SEO, the backlink tool there is excellent and I regularly use it in conjuction with OSE.

The tool you are seeking does not exist, and likely will not ever exist.
The public does not know which links Google values and does not. The best we can do is guess. Even if we knew, it takes 2-3 weeks for SEOmoz to crawl the top 40% of sites on the internet, and then 1-2 more weeks for the data to be processed. Therefore we will always be 1-2 months behind Google.
The tools in existence are designed to locate links and then offer you detailed information about the links such as whether they are follow'd, are image links, etc.
In my experience the top 3 tools for analyzing links (outside of Google) are:
Open Site Explorer http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/
Raven http://raventools.com/
AHREFS https://ahrefs.com/
Another tool is offered by Bing. Sadly, Yahoo Site Explorer is gone.
Ahrefs is new but is off to a great start.

Value of EDU Links?
Greetings: We are considering hiring a firm specializes in developing .EDU links. Is the ROI on EDU links better than non EDU backlinks from reputable domains? Will obtaining EDU links results in greater domain authority and improved ranking for search engine results? Thanks, Alan

What link would be better?
Hi Guys, Just wondering what would be better in this instance: finding an old post (with good authority) and getting a link from that old article or creating a brand new article and adding the link to that. Finding an old post (with good authority) and getting a link from that old article Creating a brand new article and adding the link to that. Both naturally link out to the page you want a link too. To me, number 1 as the page already has authority but then again number 2 since Google might place some weight to recency. Any thoughts? Cheers.

Help Identifying Unnatural Links
http://bit.ly/XT8yYYHi,Any help with the below will be most appreciated. We received an unnatural links warning in Webmaster Tools and noticed a large drop in our rankings. We downloaded and carried out a full link audit (3639 links) and logged in an excel spreadsheet with the following status: OK, Have Contacted, Can't Contact, Not SureWe have had some success but the majority of the ones we identified are not contactable. We use the dis-avow tool to tell Google of these. We then submitted a reconsideration request where we explained to Google our efforts and that we can supply them with our audit if necessary by email as you can't upload any evidence.A few days later we received a response suggesting that we still have unnatural links. We are a little stuck as we don't know what they can be:1. Is Google actually looking at our dis-avowed links before making this judgement?2. We have missed something that Google is considering bad but we can't see in our audit?Again we need a little help as we are trying to sort this out but can't see what we are falling down on.I can provide our spreadsheet if necessary. Many ThanksLee

Whats the best search parameters on Open Site Explorer for identifying un-natural back links?
Using open site explorer, what parameters will best narrow down low quality back links(or back links that could be viewed as un-natural by Google)? ie. blog networks, link schemes, etc.

Footer Link
Hello, Some of my hosted clients don't mind if I put a footer link on the bottom of their website. I would like to put a footer link that looks like Seomoz's - http://imgur.com/GrC8y Basically it would look like so: "Powered by "my company name". The world's #1 "keyword" provider (LOGO goes here) Here are my questions: 1. Would this hurt or help my rankings? 2. Should the logo be hosted by my clients so that a different ip is hosting my logo (where my image name will get picked up)? Or is it best to host it myself? 3. If my company name and keyword are getting linked, is that one link too many? 4. Is it a good idea to use a different keyword so that other keywords get picked up by SERPs, or should I set myself up on one keyword ? Thank you so much! Shawn
