404 vs. 200?
-
Is it better to have an error page return a 404 or 200? If I change it to 200, will I still be able to see reports of 404's and/ or broken links? Is there a valid SEO reason that Google would have for not wanting error pages to return 200?
In other words, is there any SEO reason to absolutely change it to return a 404? I would rather let it return 200 if no priority reason to change.

If the page has external links pointing to it, I use a 301 so as to not lose the link juice.

Yes, but that isn't the reason I gave.
Matt Cutts said that Google does a pretty good job of recognizing error pages, even if they are 200's.
404 is the correct status to use for page not found, regardless of whether Google can guess whether a 200 page is an error page or not. Based on the fact that 404 is the correct status to use for page not found, I suggest using it rather than a 200 page.

Thanks Adam. Is there a valid SEO reason rather than just Matt Cutts says?

404 is the correct status to return for page not found. Matt Cutts has indicated that Google does a pretty good job of guessing when a 200 page is an error page, but why not make it easy for Google? I always prefer to use 404 or 301 for pages that don't exist.

Cloudflare shared SSL certificate vs Letsencrypt
Cloudflare does have a free SSL certificate, which is shared among many domains (in my case 30+ domains). An alternative would be to use letsencrypt and generate a dedicated certificate. Can a shared SSL certificate hurt my google ranking?

Full Ecommerce vs seperate shop section
Just wondering is anyone had any thoughts on whats the easiest for SEO purposes. My main focus is to get people to buy our installation services. We could either a) Have a full ecommerce website and on every product we can advertise the fact that we install the products. As well as creatign additinal CMS pages OR b) Create a content driven site promoting our installation services and then having a separate tab at the top which can be very prominent called Shop or Buy online. The customer can then visit that page for DIY products. Would either option be a better option for SEO purposes/usability for the customer?

I have a problem. Everything seems to be ok, but moz shows a HTTP code of 404 for http://www.centralevapeurguide.com and I don't really know why. All my others websites return 200 but this one return 404. And obviously, only this website don't want to rank in google.. Thanks for your help. Sebastian

http://www.directcolors.com/applications/concrete-antiquing/top
http://www.directcolors.com/applications/concrete-countertops/top I understand that the **top **could be referring to an actual link that brings users to the top of a page, but on these pages there is no such link. Am I missing something?1 -

Old domain vs. New keyword domain - Thoughts?
Okay. I'd like to get opinions as to what everyone thinks about domains lately. Here is any example: The current domain is general in nature, in fact, it's a persons name because they are a real estate agent. So the domain is something like JohnDoe.com. Current stats: Has approx. 130 linking domains pointing to it. Has over 300 incoming links from these linking domains. The link profile is clean and not spammy (not to say there are not a few that might be here and there) Was bough in 1994 The new domain would have very little value except it would be keyword rich such as PortlandHomesForSale.com (just an example). What are your thoughts. Thank you.

No crawl code for pages of helpful links vs. no follow code on each link?
Our college website has many "owners" who want pages of "helpful links" resulting in a large number of outbound links. If we add code to the pages to prevent them from being crawled, will that be just as effective as making every individual link no follow?

404 Error on Spider Emulators
I recently began working at a company called Uncommon Goods. I ran a few different spider emulators on our homepage (uncommongoods.com) and I saw a 404 Error on SEO-browser.com as well as URL errors on Summit Media's emulator and SEOMoz's crawler. It seems there is a serious problem here. How is this affecting our site from an SEO standpoint? What are the repercussions? Also, I know we have a lot of javascript on our homepage..is this causing the 404? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! -Zack
