.lbi file - SEO friendly or not?
-
Up until yesterday afternoon i had never heard of a .lbi file. It turns out it is a library file used by Adobe Dreamweaver. From what i can tell it works like a client side included but i am unsure of the technology behind it.
The issue:
When running through a recent SEO audit for a new client i found these .lbi files being used all over there site for site wide callouts and even navigation. When viewing this content through firebug or in the browser you can see the executed HTML content but when viewing the source or the page in seo-browser.com the content is nowhere to be seen.So my thought is this is not SEO friendly and is the same as displaying content in any client-side script like JavaScript or JQuery.
Any feedback or thoughts on this subject would be awesome, especially if anyone has used these previously. Unfortunately i cannot share the client site but i would be more than happy to answer any questions if more detail is needed.
Thanks in advance - Kyle

Code is my life right now (redesign of website and 2 web apps) - So I see it clearly at this point - it is reality that eludes me.
-
Shane - thank you for the insight and great spot on the ajax! I was so wrapped up with the .lbi that i didn't even realize the other elements.
-
Hi,
It looks as though the code being inserted by the .lbi is inline and ajax - This is why.
And kind of weird?
It is almost like they are using Assets to place a dynamic piece of code (ajax), which seems redundant to me?
But this seems to be why - It is not due to the .lbi itself, it is because the code being placed by the .lbi is Ajax.
I would assume the reason for Ajax is the easy management of adding new items, but the use of .lbi seems redundant.
(at least this is how it appears from code)
But you loose me at Ajax, as I am not sure at what levels ajax is readable and executable by bots.

Interesting...
When i view the page they have a section called press releases with a handful of content and links. In the browser it looks great. They have 3-4 releases intros listed out with links to the full article.
When i look at the source it looks like this:
Press releases
When i look at seo-browser.com it looks like this:
Press releases View press releases <-- with this item being a link

No not client side, dreamweaver side - It works exactly like a .dwt - but used for repetitve code such as secondary navigation, or quick links.
I verified with my own site on seo-browser.com, and as anticipated all my .lbi placed code was viewable, just not the .lbi itself as it is commented out
It is not client side, and not server side - It is just a system of "Macros" i guess would be a way to explain.
When you drag an .lbi "asset" into page it automatically places code in .lbi into page real time, no processing other than in dreamweaver to keep sync data. (or at least it does if implemented correctly)
-
Thank you for the insight on how the technology works, Shane!
I have used .dwt many of times in the past but never .lbi files. It sounds like it works like a client side include which normally means search engines cannot crawl any of that content.
-
Hi,
The Actual call for the .lbi file is much like php - Although it is per page, not necessarily server side. And the HTML is actually dropped in using a call like
I currently use .lbi and .dwt HEAVILY ( although currently redesigning to use .php includes)
Is your question--- is the .lbi file followed?
Not if it is commented out, as the .lbi does no server side processing, it only drops the HTML or whatever code snippet is in the referenced .lbi live in dreamweaver, thus making it just embedded HTML (or whatever code was in .lbi)
Then - If you change the master .lbi any files that have will also be changed (not seamlessly like .php includes) Dreamweaver keeps background notes, and sync data - that each time you make a change it profiles the site, finds any that have the referenced .lbi, and will change accordingly per page.
Shane
PS. After second read, it seems as if the content from .lbi is not being seen by seo-browser.com if this is true, then this IS NOT the norm, and there must be something wrong in the implementation - as the .lbi itself should be commented out to not be followed, but the code it places SHOULD be seen by bots

Spam Links Attack, Negative SEO?
Last April we migrated our old domain www.nyc-officespace-leader.com to a new domain www.metro-manhattan.com. The old domain has been receiving numerous links from very spammy sites such as these: -adinternet.net/the_worlds_most_visited_web_pages_958.htm <colgroup><col width="263"></colgroup>

| -www.online-advertisement.net/the_worlds_most_visited_web_pages_958.html | <colgroup><col width="263"></colgroup>
| www.webfind.org/the_worlds_most_visited_web_pages_958/ | Since the old domain redirects to our new domain we are concerned this could be very detrimental. Oddly enough the 50-100 spammy domains that link to us all are a site called: "http://theglobe.se/start/" when the linking domain is entered in the browser. What should we do? Should we disavow these links? Is this some kind of an attack? Would very much appreciate some input/advice. Thank,

SEO impact classifieds website
Hi, I'm part of an organization running a classifieds platform in Spain. (Mercadonline.es) We are hit by Google penalties since a few weeks, possibly caused by numerous errors we are experiencing. Most frequent errors are 404's and duplicate content (titles tags etc) since the nature of our website is dynamic. Many ads change daily, are added or removed, causing Googlebots (and others) to flag us and not being able to see our more unique content. Until what part of our platform should we be indexed? Since we have +34,000 pages indexed (mostly due to internal filter pages) I would need a systematic solution for us to display relevant and unique content, with enough usage of keywords that can bring us back up - we are actually ranked <50 on google for most of our main keywords. It is costing us precious time and money since we can only aquire our visitors (adwords etc) and not being to attract any organically. I can go in more detail with someone who can give me a bit more direction. Your answer is much appreciated! Ivor

Would an automatic redirect to itunes affect SEO?
We recently started working on a website and most of the work done so far is resolving onsite technical issues (duplicate content, duplicate titles, broken links, pagespeed, grammar, etc.). Everything done has been positive, but their position in SERPs has actually gone down. I'm having a look to see if anything I have done could have had a negative effect. However, when visiting their website on a mobile device, it automatically redirects you to iTunes so that you can download their app. My first instinct is that this is a horrendous idea as it would result in a massive bounce rate which would be impossible to track. I have tried convincing them to do it differently, but this is how they want it. However, when googlebot visits the website as a mobile it returns an error. I'm fairly sure that this would have a negative effect on search results but I could do with a second opinion.

SEO Terms for Internal Vs External
Hey there! I am writing up an SEO plan for our company and wanted to get the groups input on the use of some SEO terms. I need to organize and explain these efforts to nonSEO people. I usually talk about, SEO in terms of "Internal" vs "External" efforts. Internal SEO efforts being things like Title Tags, Description Tags, Page Speed, Minimizing errors, proper 301 redirect, content development for the site, internal linking and anchor, etc. External SEO efforts being things like Link building, social media profile setups and posts (FB Twitter Pinterest, YouTube), PR work. How do you split these out? What terms do you use? Do you subdivide these tasks? What terms do you use? For example, with Internal, I sometimes talk about "Technical SEO" that has do to with making sure that site speed is working well, 301s are setup correctly, noindex tag etc are all used properly. These are things that different versus "On Page" efforts to use keywords properly etc. I will also use the term "Site Visibility" for non SEOs to explain the technical impact. For example, if your site has the wrong robots.txt, if you have 500 errors everywhere and a slow site, if you are sending spiders down a daisy chain of 301s, it is difficult for the key parts of your site to be found and so your "Visibility" to the engines are poor. You have to get your visibility up, before you begin to then worry about if you have the right keywords on a page etc. Any input or references would be appreciated.

SEO Impact of IPv4 and iPv6?
Thought I'd see what the asking side of Q&A feels like 😉 We've been hearing for forever that the internet is running out of IP addresses, but I finally encountered the reality of it. I just realized that one of my sites is on a shared IP (hosted by Hosting.com, formerly HostMySite.com). My other sites with them included a unique IP, so I was surprised to discover this. They claim it's due to limitations on their IP allocations. Hosting.com doesn't have the option to buy a unique IP, but some other hosts do. I noticed, though, that many of them are using IPv6 for the new accounts. Has anyone had practical experience with having an IPv6 address and is there any impact on SEO?

SEO friendly way to move a wordpress installation
Hi Mozzers I am working with a client who currently has 2 wordpress installations on their site - one is in the root domain and one is in a subdirectory /hub which is where the majority of their content is. They want to move all of their content over from the /hub directory into the root installation. Any ideas of the most SEO friendly way to do this? Thanks for any suggestions.
