How can i check the speed from section to section on my site
-
hi, i have a real problem on my site with speed www.in2town.co.uk and one of the problems is from going from section to section, so for example from home page to the travel section. i would like to know how i can time the time it takes from section to section and what tools i need.
I urgently need to sort out time delay and make my site much faster, any help would be great

thanks for that, i use http://gtmetrix.com/ but i am trying to find out about how long it takes from section to section as i have been told it is slow moving around from my site while loading the home page on my site differs during the day. sometimes it loads in three seconds and sometimes it loads in one second. i am sorting out a new larger server but need to check on the navigation of my site

Hi,
Just from looking at your site I would say if you are not using Varnish, or like program, you could probably help your load time just by leveraging caching to lower per user overhead.
But to be honest, just knowing your site speed, is not a actionable plan to reduce load times.
I personally like Firebug, with chrome addin for Pagespeed - it actually gives you reccomendations of how to reduce your site speed.
I also like this site http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/, as it gives you specifically per page what is loading, and how long it is taking so you can diagnose image loading issues script loading issues ect per page...
Even though I would disagree with Andrea, in the point that Page Load Time is Page Load time... (due to closing scripts and other items can affect page to page load times) I am not aware of anyway to test this without creating a server side network monitor such as wireshark - if possible at all.
Reason why this is not a larger concern, is fixing the items that are suggested in the above tools, will most likely fix any cross loading issues as well.
Hope this helps

You can try this free online service: http://gtmetrix.com/
If you want you can try also the free firefox plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/yslow/ You can find it also for Google Chrome.
In alternative you can use PageSpeed: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/
Hope this help you!!

Well, page load time is page load time - it's going to to take (for example) 4.2 seconds to load regardless of how you are navigating. I share that because tools don't really look at it in the way you are (section to section) but you get the same information.
Webmaster tools (https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/) is a good way to go, or you can use one of many other tools like http://www.gomez.com.

what i am trying to concentrate on at the moment is the user experience to reduce my bounce rate, i want my users coming back to the magazine again and again so i need to make sure that it is the highest quality for the user including the speed from section to section

Do you use Google Webmaster? You can check page load times times there. It's not quite the same as section-to-section but gives a better idea of what search engines (I don't really understand the focus on what matters about moving section to section) experience -and users - with your site. And if you install the page speed browser add-on, you can get more data.

Can panda penalize News publisher sites?
Hey Guys,I was wondering how Panda behaves with news publisher sites.A site with +-1M visits a day that publishes +-300 news articles a day and the life of each article is one week top, given the nature of a news articles -->only relevant now. After one week the the news articles have virtually no page views. This results on a site with thousands of quality content pages that has no page views for years. Is it possible that the site gets penalized by panda for having thousands of pages with no visits?

HTML Site for Speed
I have a few small sites and landing pages on Wordpress that I want to load a lot quicker than they do. It occurred to me that if there is not a lot of content management necessary, I should simply make the static web pages straight html instead of trying all the modifications necessary to get some Wordpress sites and themes to load quicker. I have noticed the html sites I have load lighting fast on slow hosting service. Is this a good idea, can anyone think of drawbacks to it? Security? Responsiveness? SEO? And what about taking some company's sites with blog straight html so the home page loads quick, and then using Wordpress for the blog?

Canonical URLs in an eCommerce site
We have a website with 4 product categories (1. ice cream parlors, 2. frozen yogurt shops etc.). A few sub-categories (e.g. toppings, smoothies etc.) and the products contained in those are available in more than one product category (e.g. the smoothies are available in the "ice cream parlors" category, but also in the "frozen yogurt shops" category). My question: Unfortunately the website has been designed in a way that if a subcategory (e.g. smoothies) is available in more than 1 category, then itself (the subcategory page) + all its product pages will be automatically visible under various different urls. So now I have several urls for one and the same product: www.example.com/strawberry-smoothie|SMOOTHIES|FROZEN-YOGURT-SHOPS-391-2-5 and http://www.example.com/strawberry-smoothie|SMOOTHIES|ICE-CREAM-PARLORS-391-1-5 And also several ones for one and the same sub-category (they all include exactly the same set of products): http://www.example.com/SMOOTHIES-1-12-0-4 (the smoothies contained in the ice cream parlors category) http://www.example.com/SMOOTHIES-2-12-0-4 (the same smoothies, contained in the frozen yogurt shops category) This is happening with around 100 pages. I would add canonical tags to the duplicates, but I'm afraid that by doing so, the category (frozen yogurt shops) that contains several non-canonical sub-categories (smoothies, toppings etc.) , might not show up anymore in search results or become irrelevant for Google when searching for example for "products for frozen yoghurt shops". Do you know if this would be actually the case? I hope I explained it well..

Can You Use More Then One Google Local Rich Snippet on a single site/ on a single page.
I am currently working on a website for a business that has multiple office locations. As I am trying to target all four locations I was wondering if it is okay to have more then one Local Rich Snippet on a single page. (For example they list all four locations and addresses within their footer and I was wondering if I could make these local rich snippets). What about having more then one on a single website. For example if a company has multiple offices located in several different cities and have set up individual contact pages for these cities, can each page have it's own Local Rich Snippet? Will Google look at these multiple "local rich snippets" as spaming or will they recognize the multiple locations and count it towards their local seo?

Why would this site outrank a Pr2 site with higher domain authority?
I am trying to get a pr2 site to be on top 7 local spot for the keyword Van Nuys Bail bonds but have discovered a site which has barely any back links and is not even a year old on top results. Their backlinks are from lower authority domains than what we have. How could this site be beating a 7 year old pr2 website? The site I'm working on is http://bbbail.com/ The site that is ranking in 5th spot local with pr0 is http://www.vipbailbonds.org/ is it maybe because it is a .org site? Also I notice that all websites in top spots have www, could that be a factor as well?

Cache Not Working on Our Site
We redesigned our site (www.motivators.com) back in April. Ever since then, we can't view the cache. It loads as a blank, white page but the cache text is at the top saying: "This is Google's cache of http://www.motivators.com/. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on Jul 22, 2013 15:50:40 GMT. The current page could have changed in the meantime. Learn more. Tip: To quickly find your search term on this page, press Ctrl+F or ⌘-F (Mac) and use the find bar." Has anyone else ever seen this happen? Any ideas as to why it's happening? Could it be hurting us? Advice, tips, suggestions would be very much appreciated!

How to do a no follow on site search
We have a site search that is causing a huge amount of errors as the SEOmoz crawler is showing these as duplicate content. Our first thought was to do a no-follow on the site-search directory, but we realized that the site search is /site-search.aspx and URl strings appear at the end for hundreds of pages. How dow we/how can we no-follow an undetermined amount of URL strings?
