I think google thinks i have two sites when i only have one

Hi, i am a bit puzzled, i have just used http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/anchors?site=in2town.co.uk to check my anchor text and forgot to put in the www.
and the information came up totally different from when i put the www. in
it shows a few links for the in2town.co.uk but then when i put in www.in2town.co.uk it gives me different information, is this a problem and if so how do i solve this

thanks for that. i mentioned it to my hosting company last night so they must have solved the problem. all i need to do now is to try and speed the site up otherwise i will be forced to buy a bigger dedicated server. many thanks for your help

Hi Diane
Just checked your homepage in a crawler and It looks like the 301 redirect is working. Not sure if you or your hosting company did it last night but certainly it's there.
If you type into your browser just 'in2town.co.uk' it redirects to 'www.in2town.co.uk'.
Very best wishes for the site.

thanks for that trevor

Hi Diane
Don't worry about asking your hosting company I will let you know exactly what you need to do, although likely to be tomorrow morning now
Very best wishes

hi. i have asked my hosting company to do a redirect but not sure how i can test it to make sure that all the link choice from the in2town.co.uk is now going to the www.in2town.co.uk
i first noticed something was up when my site sometimes came up with in2town.co.uk and then other times came up with www.in2town.co.uk
hopefully now with all the great advice on here it will now be sorted
many thanks everyone

Hi Diane Just away from computer at the moment but will reply later with how to do it. I'm assuming you're running on a unix server? Cheers Trevor

hi the one with www.in2town.co.uk has the most links. how can i do this in the htaccess file, never done it before.
-
Hi Diane
Just looked at the OSE numbers and going with redirecting to the 'www' version will be the way to go as you have many more links pointing to that version.
In OSE if you type in http://www.in2town.co.uk then 'add URL' http://in2town.co.uk then 'Compare Metrics' you'll see the difference between the two.
Very best wishes

Hi Diane
Looks like you need to set a canonical version for your site.
Importantly before deciding on either http://in2town.co.uk or http://www.in2town.co.uk you need to check if one or other has many more links or one has more authoritative links as redirecting will reduce the link juice passed.
You can set the canonical version in the .htaccess file on your site and also as a preference in Google Webmaster Tools.
If you let us know what server your site works on we can better advise you.
Very best wishes
Trevor

Hi Diane!
There is a difference between www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com. Because of that you have to make sure Google and others see the version of your choice, with or withour www.
My recommendation:
Choose www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com and then add a redirect 301 to make sure that visitors and search engines always see the same version of your site.

Google Search Console Site Map Anomalies (HTTP vs HTTPS)
Hi I've just done my usual Monday morning review of clients Google Search Console (previously Webmaster Tools) dashboard and disturbed to see that for 1 client the Site Map section is reporting 95 pages submitted yet only 2 indexed (last time i looked last week it was reporting an expected level of indexed pages) here. It says the sitemap was submitted on the 10th March and processed yesterday. However in the 'Index Status' its showing a graph of growing indexed pages up to & including yesterday where they numbered 112 (so looks like all pages are indexed after all). Also the 'Crawl Stats' section is showing 186 pages crawled on the 26th. Then its listing sub site-maps all of which are non HTTPS (http) which seems very strange since the site is HTTPS and has been for a few months now and the main sitemap index url is an HTTPS: https://www.domain.com/sitemap_index.xml The sub sitemaps are:http://www.domain.com/marketing-sitemap.xmlhttp://www.domain.com/page-sitemap.xmlhttp://www.domain.com/post-sitemap.xmlThere are no 'Sitemap Errors' reported but there are 'Index Error' warnings for the above post-sitemap, copied below:_"When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some of the URLs were unreachable. Please check your webserver for possible misconfiguration, as these errors may be caused by a server error (such as a 5xx error) or a network error between Googlebot and your server. All reachable URLs will still be submitted." _

Also for the below site map URL's: "Some URLs listed in this Sitemap have a high response time. This may indicate a problem with your server or with the content of the page" for:http://domain.com/en/post-sitemap.xmlANDhttps://www.domain.com/page-sitemap.xmlAND https://www.domain.com/post-sitemap.xmlI take it from all the above that the HTTPS sitemap is mainly fine and despite the reported 0 pages indexed in GSC sitemap section that they are in fact indexed as per the main 'Index Status' graph and that somehow some HTTP sitemap elements have been accidentally attached to the main HTTPS sitemap and the are causing these problems. What's best way forward to clean up this mess ? Resubmitting the HTTPS site map sounds like right option but seeing as the master url indexed is an https url cant see it making any difference until the http aspects are deleted/removed but how do you do that or even check that's what's needed ? Or should Google just sort this out eventually ? I see the graph in 'Crawl > Sitemaps > WebPages' is showing a consistent blue line of submitted pages but the red line of indexed pages drops to 0 for 3 - 5 days every 5 days or so. So fully indexed pages being reported for 5 day stretches then zero for a few days then indexed for another 5 days and so on ! ? Many ThanksDan0 -
Will Google Also Penalize Desktop Rankings If Your Site is Not Mobile Friendly?
Apologies if this question has already been answered. I was unable to find it. For desktop organic rankings: Will Google take into consideration mobile-readiness as a ranking factor? Thanks in advance for any reply, Kind regards,

Site's IP showing WMT 'Links to My Site'
I have been going through, disavowing spam links in WMT and one of my biggest referral sources is our own IP address. Site: Covers.com

IP: 208.68.0.72 We have recently fixed a number of 302 redirects, but the number of links actually seems to be increasing. Is this something I should ignore / disavow / fix using a redirect?0 -
Why is Google not indexing my site?
I'm a bit confused as to why my site just isn't indexing on Google. Even if I type in my brand name, my social channels rank and there's no evidence of my website. I've followed all of the advice I've read and gone into webmaster tools and got the Wordpress yoast plug-in but nothing seems to be making a difference! One thing I've noticed, in Google Webmaster Tools it says "Couldn’t communicate with the DNS server." in site errors. I've called GoDaddy and they said that everything is fine. A bit frustrating. Trying to work out what my next steps should be but feeling a bit lost to be honest! Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Partner Sites
Hi All, Within our company we have a media group that publishes magazines and videos, the sites have footers that link to our shopping site, one of them has 118,459 links to one URL, domain authority 23, and the other 17,726 to seven URLs, domain authority 52, (there are some articles which link organically). My question is are these links because they're from identifiable companies with the same ownership worth keeping or are they detrimental? The site being linked to has a DA of 39 Cheers Stew

Can view pages of site, but Google & SEOmoz return 404
I can visit and view every page of a site (can also see source code), but Google, SEOmoz and others say anything other than home page is a 404 and Google won't index the sub-pages. I have check robots.txt and HTAccess and can't find anything wrong. Is this a DNS or server setting problem? Any ideas? Thanks, Fitz

Google Analytics
I usually have Google analytics "real-time" running on one of my monitors, occasionally I glance at the screen to see that are TOP KEYWORDS people are using, lately there have been a lot of long-tail keywords. If I try to copy and paste the queries into google, i can never seem to find us organically for the long-tail searches? Is the real-time feature accurate? Thank you!

Google Has Indexed Most of My Site, why won't Bing?
We've got 600K+ pages indexed by Google and have submitted our same sitemap.xml's to Bing, but have only seen 100-200 pages get indexed by Bing. Is this fairly typical? Is there anything further we can do to increase indexation on Bing?
