How to rank internal pages?
-
Hello, I have a website about consoles, on the homepage are a few thoughts about what consoles are and a short history.
The main attraction are the pages about Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, PSP Vita.
So, I want to rank my homepage and my internal pages about the consoles ranking for "xbox360", "play station 3" each one on a separate page of course.
Basically I want to rank brands. My main questions are:
1. How much link builing should I do for my homepage considering that I'm not really interested in ranking it as much as the internal pages? In percentage how it would look like? Random (stupid) example: 60% links to homepage, 10% to each internal page?
2. I guess I must do links for internal pages otherwise they won't rank good, only linking to homepage.
3. Considering the penguin update, my main keyword should be around what % of the overall anchors to each internal page?
Thank you very much for your help!

One more question. So basically if I want ro rank an internal page: mydomain/xbox-360 for "Xbox 360" what should be my main keyword?
The percentage of the keyword "Xbox 360" should be under 20%?

1. Most of your link juice should flow into the home page. This is how most sites work, as most links out there are citations (ie: citing the source, which is your domain, not your page). Google normally can figure out the most relevant page.
2. Make sure you have excellent internal linking just to make sure any link juice going to the home page flows well.
3. Your % is no longer relevant. You will trip the filters getting a single bad link if you/re unlucky, regardless of the threshold. Focus on your own brand, at least for the foreseeable future, and build a site that can sustain itself on long tail traffic while waiting for the big ones to hit.

High ranking nationally but not locally via google
A website I am working on is ranked very well in all tracked keywords at a national level, but not from a local standpoint via google. I find it weird that the site is on the first page if you search from many other states/towns/locations but not locally. Looked on Google Search Console and couldn't see any link to why this is happening. Figured we would clear out the htaccess for any redirect issues and hope it fixes it. Suggestions please? Never seen google do this. It is strange.

Still seeing a terrible rank drop after last algo update?!
I'm still stumped as to why the ranking has gone so poor on a whitehat site. (see attached image) As you can see we've steadily been improving the ranking over the last 6+ months and then got hit with a massive change this month... I can't physically see any issues and Moz isn't reporting anything negatively that would have such a major effect.. Like not as if the drops were subtle... they've all gone into the 50+ section! Any insights into what may have changed in the latest algo update would be appreciated?! S0sD7d8.png

Should we remove our "index" pages (alphabetical link list to all of the products on the site)?
We run an e-commerce site with a large number of product families, with each family having a number of products within it. We have a set of pages (26 - one for each letter A-Z) that are lists of links to the product family pages. We originally created these pages thinking it would aid in discoverability of these pages to search engines, of course as time has gone on, techniques like this have fallen out of favor with Google as it provides negligible value to the user. Should we consider removing these pages from the site overall? Is it possible that it could be viewed by Panda as resembling a link farm? Thanks in advance!

Schema for Landing Pages
Hi guys, I do a lot of landing pages for cars and would like to know what the best practices are for some things in Schema, so I can enhance their web presence. I would like to make some bullet points of the features of the vehicles show up in Google search results. What would be the best way to make this happen with Schema? Also, can I use coordinates in the code to make the landing page show up on a search result saying "2014 Volkswagen Beetle near me," rather than "2014 Volkswagen Beetle near Clarence, NY?" Can I make an image of the brand or car show up in the search results along with the meta description (kind of what bloggers do). Thanks!

Big Rank Drop - Is My Site Spammy?
Like many others one of our niche sites - aluminumeyewear.com got slammed in the recent algo updates (4/18). All of our pages dropped at least 40/50 places which seems like a penalty to me. The site still ranks for its name thankfully. I'm trying to figure out if this is an over-optimization penalty, or a devaluing of back links or both. I would be grateful if I could get some feedback as to whether you feel the site is over optimized and how I could check if sources of back links have been penalized which in turn has effected us? Thanks in advance!

Influence of users' comments on a page (on-page SEO)
Do you think when Google crawls your page, it "monitors" comments updates to use this as a ranking factor? If Google is looking for social signs, looking for comments updates might be a social sign as well (ok a lot easier to manipulate, but still social). thx
