Keyword penalty?
-
One of our pages seems to have disappeared from Google SERPs, I did some analysis/research into this to try find out what is going on. Nothing jumps out..
- No noticeable traffic drops, especially on/after the Panda & Penguin updates.
- Thorough checks on related keywords – no noticeable drops
- Anchor text – brand name & natural anchor texts
- 2/3 word phrases Keyword density 3-5% in content
- No Google Manual Penalty with Notification in WBTools
- Robot.txt checked
- Checked sitemap.xml (recently updated)
I expect if the page has dropped in SERPs then the traffic would drop also.. Anyone had same experiences or ideas how this page is affected?

The most likeey cause is over optimization or similar page content.
If you scroll through the serps for the same keyword that would usually bring up the disappeared page and another of your site pages comes up further down like page 3, 4 or whatever, you can be pretty sure one of those two issues is the cause.

DIsavow links even without a penalty?
This is a sort of follow-on question from a previous one I asked, where I was being advised to do this. I've inherited a poor client link profile from a previous provider, with tons of partial match links for "IT support" on a lot of low quality directories. It has been at least a year now since they were built, and I'm concerned that the abundance of them will make it harder to rank for any "IT support" keywords due to over-optimization. This is frustrating since "IT support London" is the main keyword for the home page. On the previous thread, I was advised to disavow these old links and move on, though I have heard from many in the SEO community (and read) that using the disavow tool unless absolutely necessary (i.e. In the case of a penalty) is a mistake, since it is effectively notifying Google that you have been "misbehaving" and you should stay away from sending these types of signals altogether. Can anyone with experience in this matter please advise on this? Thank you in advance.

What is the best way to take advantage of this keyword?
Hi SEO's! I've been checking out webmaster tools (screenshot attached) and noticed that we're getting loads of long tail searches around a search query 'arterial and venous leg ulcers' - on a side note we're a nursing organisation so excuse the content of the search!!! The trouble is that google is indexing a PDF page which we give out as a freebie:

http://www.nursesfornurses.com.au/admin/uploads/5DifferencesBetweenVenousAndArterialLegUlcers1.pdf This PDF is a couple of years old and needs updating but its got a few links pointing to it. Ok so down to the nitty gritty, we've just launched a blog:
http://news.nursesfornurses.com.au/Nursing-news/ We have a whole wound care category in which this content belongs, and i'm trying to find the best way to take advantage of the search, so I was thinking: Create an article of about 1000 words Update the PDF and re-upload it to the main domain (not the sub domain news.nursesfornurses.com.au) Attach the PDF to the article on the blog OR would it be better to host this on the blog, and setup a 301 redirect to this page? I just need some advice on how best to take advantage of this opportunity, our blog isn't getting much search traffic at the moment (despite having 300+ articles!!) and i'm looking into how we can change that. I look forward to your response and suggestions. Thanks! qtY64B10 -
Can 410 links trigger a penalty?
Hi! This is a follow on question from my other post - http://moz.com/community/q/site-dropped-after-recovery. As mentioned there, I've ad a manual penalty revoked for http://www.newyoubootcamp.com/. This came after the forum was hacked and some poor quality SEO was done. We've managed to clean a large amount of links, but ones such as http://about1.typepad.com/blog/2014/04/tweetdeck-to-launch-as-html5-web-app-now-accepting-beta-testers.html (anchor is "microsoft") are still being found and indexed. My question is that although the forum is now 410'd, can these junk links still be causing any harm? A huge amount have been disavowed, and many others taken down after a manual outreach campaign, but still others are appearing. The site is performing poorly in search despite having a much better domain authority, driven by largely great links from national newspapers, than its competitors, as well as solid user metrics such as a bounce rate of 30% and few on-site issues. This makes me think it must be the link profile. Any advice would be much appreciated. S

Bolding Keywords
A client has just switched from us to another provider and I have been checking up on the work done and the only change they have made is to bold lots of keywords on each page - I thought this was a practice that did not work - is there any evidence of this working or not working? Any articles/proof that we are not using out dated practices as we stopped doing this ages ago and yet the new provider is doing this. Who is right or wrong?

URL - Keywords
My domain name contains my top two keywords. Am I penalized if I create another page where I add my domain key words a 2nd time after the domain name along with a subcategory and the name of a state. I don't know what white hat and black hat is so I want to make sure I stay white hat. Also I didn't know it but is it true that your title shows up in your domain name?

How do you use local keywords naturally in a sentence?
Some local SEO key phrases are difficult to use naturally in a sentence - consider "dry cleaners Birmingam". Do you have any ideas about how to use this type of phrase in a natutral-sounding way when writing content?
