Do different hosting IP addresses really matter?
-
Hi all
It used to be (allegedly) the case that you should have all your sites on different Class Cs or Google would hit you with the spam hammer. Which I guess made some sense because back then they probably didn't have many other ways of detecting unnatural link networks.
But today with all their data on who is related to who, can this really matter any more?
I'd like to move 3 or 4 of our sites (all long-established with widely varied link sources) onto one server, one CMS install, one less headache but I wanted to check first in case I'm about to shoot myself in the foot.
Thanks
Roger

Thanks Zack, sometimes you just need to hear someone else say what you're thinking 'out loud'

You won't shoot yourself in the foot. I saw Matt Cutts comment on this once in a video years ago. The reasoning is that if you have hundreds of domains all registered in your name and on the same server, with little value, then yes Google will likely flag that as suspicious.
I have around 10 large personal websites for years that do well on the same IP.
If you can get an IP address cheaply and easily, sure why not. You'll be fine either way, though.

Migration + Change of Address Tool used - previous site de-indexed!!
OMG disaster! Recently migrated my site womencycles.com to moonrise.health. Painstakingly went through each URL manually to map out redirects, notified Google via change of address tool. Bam. My old website has disappeared from Google and my new site has thus lost all it's organic (i.e. redirected) traffic. I don't get it. I think I have done everything by the book, but it seems my old site has disappeared and no authority or link juice has been passed to my new site by the 301s, as the new site isn't ranking either. Hi - I have a question about IP addresses
- would it hurt link juice to host a blog on a different server to the rest of your website? I have a web host saying they can't run Wordpress as they won't support PHP for "security reasons" - one solution would be to set up Wordpress on a different server and redirect domain.com/blog there (I presume this is do-able?). But I don't know if that affects the SEO adversely?

Subdomain hosted on a different server VS Subfolder on main server
We have a website developed in ColdFusion on a server does not support PHP. We have a blog for the site using WordPress (PHP), hosted on a different server, with a subdomain as the URL. (example: blog.website.com) I've heard that search engines treat subdomains as completely different websites from the main domain, so they could actually be in competition for rankings in the search engines - is that correct? I am under the impression that the traffic to the blog will not show as traffic to the main website, because it is hosted on a different server - is that right? If I am correct, I assume the best solution would be to install PHP on our main server, and put the blog in a subfolder ... or would the subdomain be OK as long as the blog is hosted on the main server? Thanks!

Best way to host new product?
Hi guys We are launching a new product, the web pages are being built by a 3rd party and fall outside our current CMS. We're considering either hosting it on 1) sub domain 2) folder within existing site (although will be tricky to implement) or 3) a different URL altogether. What would you say is the best for SEO? Many thanks in advance.... Nigel

I am running into an issue where I have pages with completely different body and meta description but they are still being marked as having the same content (Duplicate Page Content error). Different domains
Firstly apologies for the very brief question as I am mainly looking for your thoughts as opposed to specific help about a specific problem. I am working on a site which has two sepreate domains and within one domain, two sub domains. The two different sites both havea high page rank, PR6 each, one is the corporate site and the other is the company blog. There are also two sub domains within the corporate site, again both domains have high pr and tons of content. My question is would it be better to consolidate all the assets under one domain or is it better to keep the sites sepreate, from an seo perspective that is.
