Okay how do I fix this cannibalization error?
-
Okay so check it out.
I already have the problem where my main page shows 3 of my posts of 3 popular posts and the SEOmoz optimization tool tells my there are like 60 keyword occurances? for the damn page so I had to make it look damn ugly for my views and lowered it to 1 post and 2 popular posts. Can I fix that?
Another thing - The SEOMOZ tool keeps telling me I have this cannibalization crap on all my posts because my homepage in the upper left corner has the keyword in it and in the footer of the template, my homepage title shows up (Keyword). What the heck do I do to fix this?
And also another question - I have my main page AND 1 of my posts ranking for the same keyword. Is there a problem?
-
Howdy,
This is a common problem: You link out to your popular post, and they all contain the keyword you are trying to rank for, and this causes cannibalization problems.
1. One solution is to change the title of your posts, or at least the links going out to them. So if you run a shoe store, you might drop the "shoes" from the outgoing links and truncate all the links to "Nike Mens" "Adidas Womans" etc.
2. If you want your homepage to rank for this keyword, it's not a problem. That said, I've seen a lot of instances of de-optimizing these sitewide links by removing keywords actually show an improvement in rankings. You can try experimenting by changing the keyword (or adding a nofollow) to these links and see what happens.
3. No, not at all. As long as the page you want to rank higher is ranking higher, this just means you own more of the SERPs, and will get a higher click-through. If you want to change this, it often helps to add a partial-match link from the 2nd page to the first, to indicate to both Google and users what the correct page should be.
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

How do I fix 5xx errors on pdf's?
Hi all, I'm having a huge (and very frustrating) issue-- I have 437 pages with 5xx errors and have no idea how to go about fixing them. All of them are links to pdf's, and when I click on the link on the Site Crawl page, it opens just fine. I've been trying to find the answer to how to fix this issue for weeks with no luck at all. I tried linking the pdf's to their parent page, tried renaming the links to be more concise and crawler friendly, and I've searched all types of articles involving pdf's and 5xx errors, all with no luck. Does anyone have any idea why these pages are getting this error and how I can fix them? Huge thanks in advance! Daniela S.

On-Page SEO Fixes - Are They Relative?
So, I'm implementing on-page fixes for a site that my company runs SEO services for (www.ShadeTreePowersports.com). However, I was wondering if there was a way to rank a pages' SEO quality, in general? As of now, it seems like the only way your recommendations can be consumed and altered is on a keyword basis. However, this seems be the reason I have a good amount of my F-Grades. Since my website sells powersports apparel and accessories, we cover a variety of applicable (but different) keywords like 'Motorcycle parts' or 'snow tubes,' because we sell so many different types of products. But, when I look at my F-Grades - SEOMoz is telling me my homepage is ranking poorly for a multitude of those pertinent keywords - but only because my page isn't catered specifically to each of them (IE: 'Snowmobile Parts' - 'Water Sport Apparel') But, with so many different types of products, catering to a specific one is impossible and would be detrimental. Is there a way to see how a page ranks, without factoring in those keywords? Or a better way that I can use these recommendations more efficiently? Thanks guys!

SEOMoz Crawler and rel_canonical_tag Errors
This tag is showing up on category pages (that do not have a duplicate page on the site). In mid November Google cut our traffic by 30%. Could this tag be confusing the spider? According to the moz crawler - we seemed to be dinged for this on 95% of our pages. Is this hurting us? It seems to direct back to the same page.EG: From the FMI3600 Page http://www.brick-anew.com/FMI-3600-Fireplace-Doors.html: http://www.brick-anew.com/FMI-3600-Fireplace-Doors.html"> There is only one page for the FMI 3600 Fireplace Door category - however, it does have the same products on it as other FP Door Category pages,

Crawl Diagnostics bringing 20k+ errors as duplicate content due to session ids
Signed up to the trial version of Seomoz today just to check it out as I have decided I'm going to do my own SEO rather than outsource it (been let down a few times!). So far I like the look of things and have a feeling I am going to learn a lot and get results. However I have just stumbled on something. After Seomoz dones it's crawl diagnostics run on the site (www.deviltronics.com) it is showing 20,000+ plus errors. From what I can see almost 99% of this is being picked up as erros for duplicate content due to session id's, so i am not sure what to do! I have done a "site:www.deviltronics.com" on google and this certainly doesn't pick up the session id's/duplicate content. So could this just be an issue with the Seomoz bot. If so how can I get Seomoz to ignore these on the crawl? Can I get my developer to add some code somewhere. Help will be much appreciated. Asif
