How Do I deal with duplicate page titles for pages on eCommerce site
-
Hi
We have an ecommerce site selling physical products. There are a few areas where the products run into two pages.
I have used canonical meta tags and next and prev meta tags too.
Despite this SEOMOZ reports are still displaying these as warnings for duplicate page titles.
An example would be
/brand_name/range/
<link rel="next" href="/brand_name/range/?page=2" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="/band_name/range/"/>
/brand_name/range/?page=2
<link rel="<a class="attribute-value">prev</a>" href="/brand_name/range/" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="/band_name/range/?page=2"/>
Should I be doing something different?

I asked the same question to our SEO company and they came up with this answer:
"In regards to your question, Google has explained that using paginated content, i.e. the rel="next" and rel="prev" tags, tells them that the two pages are part of a sequence. Therefore there is no need to have different titles or to noindex page 2. You won't receive any penalty for it."
Which makes more sense to me, and this means that the SEOmoz reports are wrong to be flagging this up as a duplicate title?

What you want is for Page 2, Page 3, etc. to automatically show up in the page title, making different page titles for each page.
Depending on what CMS and plugins you are using, this may be easy to add. Otherwise, a PHP script could detect what page number and add it to the title automatically.

Filter Pages
Howdy Moz Forum!! I have a headache of a job over here in the UK and I'd welcome any advice! - It's sunny today, only 1 of 5 days in a year and i'm stuck on this! I have a client that currently has 22,000 pages indexed to Google with almost 4000 showing as duplicate content. The site has a "jobs" and "candidates" list. This can cause all sorts of variations such as job title, language, location etc. The filter pages all seem to be indexed. Plus the static pages are indexed. For example if there were 100 jobs at Moz being advertised, it is displaying the jobs on the following URL structure - /moz
Moz Pro | | Slumberjac
/moz/moz-jobs
/moz/moz-jobs/page/2
/moz/moz-jobs/page/3
/moz/moz-jobs/page/4
/moz/moz-jobs/page/5 ETC ETC Imagine this with some going up to page/250 I have checked GA data and can see that although there are tons of pages indexed this way, non of them past the "/moz/moz-jobs" URL get any sort of organic traffic. So, my first question! - Should I use rel-canonical tags on all the /page/2 & /page/3 etc results and point them all at the /moz/moz-jobs parent page?? The reason for this is these pages have the same title and content and fall very close to "duplicate" content even though it does pull in different jobs... I hope i'm making sense? There is also a lot of pages indexed in a way such as- https://www.examplesite.co.uk/moz-jobs/search/page/9/?candidate_search_type=seo-consulant&candidate_search_language=blank-language These are filter pages... and as far as I'm concerned shouldn't really be indexed? Second question! - Should I "no follow" everything after /page in this instance? To keep things tidy? I don't want all the variations indexed! Any help or general thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks.0 -
Backlink of competitor inner page
How to understand from where the link to a competitor's internal page http://www.exampledomain.com/contest/book are coming? I mean, we want promote the same "event" but we want understanding where the competitor is already present. Open Site Explorer doesn't have any data for the website listed but I'm sure that the page has a lot of backlinks (I've verified the first 50 manually in Google.it) Many Thanks for all your advices.

Benefits of reducing on page links
This is more of a discussion point. What would be the measurable results of reducing the number of on page links, specifically on a home page, but let's assume by way of a large navigation menu most of the pages have a lot of links" For instance, would any of the stats on the MozBar be affected (let's start with the home page). Would the Page Authority or MozRank change at all, perhaps because there is less "juice" flowing out of the home page? Thanks! 🙂

Help with duplicate title tags?
I was looking in Google webmaster tools and it says I have 95 duplicate title tags for my site Noah's Dad. When I look through the list it appears the pages with duplicate title tags are some of my category pages, archive pages, and some author pages... Not sure if you guys can use some of the tools to see what is actually showing up duplicate or not, and if you need more info just let me know. But I wanted to see if this is something I should be concerned with? Should WMT also say 0 in duplicate content? It seems like when I started my blog I was told no to be conceded with this sort of stuff in gwmt. Anyways...I just wanted to see what you guys think. (By the way, is there any way to tell what this duplicate content is having (or has had) on my SERP results? Thanks.

Duplicate Content Issues with WordPress
I'm having some difficulty with a few of the sites I'm managing right now. When I run a report here, I'm getting a duplicate content issue with sites that I'm running through WordPress. Sites running on a different CMS are not getting the issue. The duplicate content is being listed as from two URL's that are identical. I checked trailing slash, spelling, capitalization, everything. It looks like the same site is being marked as two with duplicate content. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this and/or what I may be able to do to resolve the issue (or if it's really something to worry about or not)? Thanks. (and thanks for helping the new guy!)

When viewing my campaign and looking at the on page optimisation tool, I have a few issues. I seems to only shows the keywords I want rankings for and how optimised my homepage is for those keywords. Is there any way I can get it to analyse permanently specifc keywords for specific pages because my homepage isnt optimised for some keywords which are on my list, which I have optimised other pages for, and because its looking at my homepage its getting a really low grade, and looks really bad and frustrates me because I cant work this out. Any help greatly appreciated.

Title tag on sitemap.xml
The SEO moz is showing an error on one of the sites within my SE Moz account campaign under Crawl Diagnostics: Title tag missing or empty. No problem here but the file associated with this issue is sitemap.xml and that just dose't look right as as far as I know xml files are title tag free. I've searched around and i've been able only to confirm my initial thought that sitemap.xml dose't use a title tag .. like any other xml. is this an issue ? (the error that is) or i should let it slide. can it be fixed ? if yes, how ? Thanks !
