Does Disallowing a directory also tell search engines to unindex?
-
I have a bunch of duplicate pages/duplicate title issues because of Joomla's item/category/menu structures.
I want to tell search engines not to crawl, and also to unindex anything in those directories in order to solve the duplicate issues.
I thought of disallowing in robots.txt, but then I realized that might not remove the URLs if they've already been indexed.
Please help me figure this out.

Yes, this will remove them, but if you want to speed up the process you can use the google URL removal tool http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=164734

What are best page titles for sub-folders or sub-directories? Same as website?
Hi all, We always mention "brand & keyword" in every page title along with topic in the website, like "Topic | vertigo tiles". Let's say there is a sub-directory with hundreds of pages...what will be the best page title practice in mentioning "brand & keyword" across all pages of sub-directory to benefit in-terms if SEO? Can we add "vertigo tiles" to all pages of sub-directory? Or we must not give same phrase? Thanks,

Is it OK to have Search Engines Skip Ajax Content Execution?
I recently added some ajax pages to automatically fill in small areas of my site upon page loading. That is, the user doesn't have to click anything. Therefore when Google and Bing crawl the site the ajax is executed too. However, my understanding is that does not mean Google and Bing are also crawling the ajax content. I actually would prefer that the content would be not be executed OR crawled by them. In the case of Bing I would prefer that the content not even be executed because indications are that the program exits the ajax page for Bing because Bing isn't retaining session variables which that page uses, which makes me concerned that perhaps when that happens Bing isn't able to even crawl the main content..dunno..So, ajax execution seems potentially risky for normal crawling in this case. I would like to simply have my program skip the ajax execution for Google and Bing by recognizing them in the useragent and using an If robot == Y skip ajax approach. I assume I could put the ajax program in the robots.txt file but that wouldn't keep Bing from executing it (and having that exit problem mentioned above). It would be simpler to just have them skip the ajax execution altogether. Is that ok or is there a chance the search engines will penalize my site if they find out (somehow) that I have different logic for them than for the actual users? In the past this surely was not a concern but I understand that Google is increasingly trying to become like a browser so may increasingly have a problem with this approach. Thoughts?

Whch Google Advanced Search Query To Use?
Hi basically i want to find sites which mention a specific exact keyword on the page e.g. "BMW" but the same keyword "BMW" is not contained in the title tag of the page. Is there a advanced search query to do this? I did try “BMW” Intitle:"-bmw" no luck. I do also have scrapebox if there is a way to do this through that. Cheers, Mark

Why does the site I am working on have so few visits from organic search results?
Hello! I am not very experienced with SEO, but I am trying to help out on a site that has been around since 2010 and has well over a thousand pages of high-quality, original content, with more being added all the time. Only around 65 of the site's daily visits come from organic search results; this seems very low. There has already been significant SEO work done on the site. Is there something about the site that strikes anyone as obviously getting in the way of organic traffic? The URL is ellenjovin.com. I would appreciate any thoughts you may have. Thank you very much!

Fixing A Page Google Omits In Search
Hi, I have two pages ranking for the same keyword phrase. Unfortunately, the wrong page is ranking higher, and the other page, only ranks when you include the omitted results. When you have a page that only shows when its omitted, is that because the content is too similar in google's eyes? Could there be any other possible reason? The content really shouldn't be flagged as duplicate, but if this is the only reason, I can change it around some more. I'm just trying to figure out the root cause before I start messing with anything. Here are the two links, if that's necessary. http://www.kempruge.com/personal-injury/ http://www.kempruge.com/location/tampa/tampa-personal-injury-legal-attorneys/ Best, Ruben
