Solving duplicate content with WP authors, tags, categories

I've been kind of neglecting wordpress installations on my websites and noticed many showing duplicate content for pages showing under author and tags, tags and single post, categories and single post.
Should this be a concern? Whats the best way of fixing this?

What I'd recommend are:
1. you could set your author and tag pages to be 'noindex,follow' - so search engines will still visit them, and follow the links through to the posts, but not actually index the potentially duplicate content on those pages
2. make sure that your category pages are just showing excerpts of your posts, instead of the actual full post.
3. determine your canonical url structure and stick with it

Also - the Wordpress SEO plugin by Yoast is really good for helping to deal with these kinds of issues.

Wordpress tags and duplicate content?
I've seen a few other Q&A posts on this but I haven't found a complete answer. I read somewhere a while ago that you can use as many tags as you would like. I found that I rank for each tag I used. For example, I could rank for best night clubs in san antonio, good best night clubs in san antonio, great best night clubs in san antonio, top best night clubs in san antonio, etc. However, I now see that I'm creating a ton of duplicate content. Is there any way to set a canonical tag on the tag pages to link back to the original post so that I still keep my rankings? Would future tags be ignored if I did this?

Why I am a seeing an error for duplicate content for any categories and tags on my Wordpress blog?
When I look under "Crawl Diagnostics" I see I have 12 errors for duplicate content and there are all from tags and categories. I am assuming that search engines are reading the content in the tags and categories as duplicate. Should I set my categories to "no-index?"

Problem with duplicate content

Why do I get duplicate content errors just for tags I place on blog entries?
I the SEO MOZ crawl diagnostics for my site, www.heartspm.com, I am getting over 100 duplicate content errors on links built from tags on blog entries. I do have the original base blog entry in my site map not referencing the tags. Similarly, I am getting almost 200 duplicate meta description errors in Google Webmaster Tools associated with links automatically generated from tags on my blog. I have more understanding that I could get these errors from my forum, since the forum entries are not in the sitemap, but the blog entries are there in the site map. I thought the tags were only there to help people search by category. I don't understand why every tag becomes its' own link. Unique Title Tags OR Unique Content?
The content management system for my e-commerce site will not allow me to add both: unique content and unique title tags to each of my product category pages. Since I am forced to choose one or the other...which one is more important for rankings? And please dont answer "get a new CM system"...thats not an option. Thanks

Duplicate Content Question
Just signed up for pro and did my first diagnostic check - I came back with something like 300 duplicate content errors which suprised me because every page is unique. Turns out my pages are listed as www.sportstvjobs.com and just sportstvjobs.com does that really count as duplicate? and if so does anyone know what I should be doing differently? I thought it was just a canonical issue, but best I can tell I have the canonical in there but this still came up as a duplicate error....maybe I did canonical wrong, or its some other issue?
