Google Hiding Indexed Pages from SERPS?
-
Trying to troubleshoot an issue with one of our websites and noticed a weird discrepancy. Our site should only have 3 pages in the index. The main landing page with a contact form and two policy pages, yet google reports over 1,100 pages (that part is not a mystery, I know where they are coming from.....multi site installations of popular CMS's leave much to be desired in actually separating websites)
Here is a screen shot showing the results of the site command:
http://www.diigo.com/item/image/2jing/oseh
I have set my search settings to show 100 (the max number of results) results per page. Everything is fine until I get to page three where I get the standard "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 122 already displayed." But wait a second, I clicked on page three, now there are only two pages of results and the number of results reported has dropped to 122

When I click on the "show omitted results" I do get some more results, and the returned results jumps back up to 1,100. However I only get three pages of results. And when I click on the last page the number of results returned changes to 205
http://www.diigo.com/item/image/2jing/jd4h
Is this a difference between indexes (same thing happens when I turn instant search back on, Shows over 1,100 results but when I get to the last page of results it changes to 205).
Any other way of getting this info? I am trying to go in and identify how these pages are being generated, but I have to know what ones are showing up in the index for that to happen. Only being able to access 1/5th of the pages indexed is not cool. Anyone have any idea about this or experience with it?
For reference I was going through with SEOmoz's excellent toolbar and exporting the results to csv (using the Mozilla plugin). I guess google doesn't like people doing that so maybe this is a way to protect against scraping by only showing limited results in the Site: command.
Thanks!

Thanks Alan,
will see what we can do. One way or the other it has to be addressed.

i see your problem, you may need to hack in and hard code the domain in the canonical tags.

High Alan,
thanks for the response, I guess it is good to know that someone else has seen this issue before.
As for canonical tags, I do have them on all pages, but because there is not a way to set them absolutely (our CMS only allows for relative....so it takes the base path of the domain that it is on) I can't get them to link only to the domain that they are supposed to be published on.
Cheers!

I have seen this and dont have an answer, but if i were you i would put canonical tags in your pages to avoide and problems with duplicate content as thats a lot of duplicates

Duplicate Page Content on pages that appear to be different?
Hi Everyone! My name's Ross, and I work at CHARGED.fm. I worked with Luke, who has asked quite a few questions here, but he has since moved on to a new adventure. So I am trying to step into his role. I am very much a beginner in SEO, so I'm trying to learn a lot of this on the fly, and bear with me if this is something simple. In our latest MOZ Crawl, over 28K high priority issues were detected, and they are all Duplicate Page Content issues. However, when looking at the issues laid out, the examples that it gives for "Duplicate URLs" under each individual issue appear to be completely different pages. They have different page titles, different descriptions, etc. Here's an example. For "LPGA Tickets", it is giving 19 Duplicate URLs. Here are a couple it lists when you expand those:
Moz Pro | | keL.A.xT.o
http://www.charged.fm/one-thousand-one-nights-tickets
http://www.charged.fm/trash-inferno-tickets
http://www.charged.fm/mylan-wtt-smash-hits-tickets
http://www.charged.fm/mickey-thomas-tickets Internally, one reason we thought this might be happening is that even though the pages themselves are different, the structure is completely similar, especially if there are no events listed or if there isn't any content in the News/About sections. We are going to try and noindex pages that don't have events/new content on them as a temporary fix, but is there possibly a different underlying issue somewhere that would cause all of these duplicate page content issues to begin appearing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!0 -

Duplicate page content due to Sort By dropdown
Hi there, I have over 150 Duplicate Page Title errors showing up in SEOMoz but on closer inspection these are related to the 'Sort By:' functionality on our ecommerce site that allows customers to sort our products by Price, Alphabetically etc. To give an example: http://www.parklanechampagne.co.uk/park-lane-champagne/special-occasions/easter Is showing as being duplicated by this page: http://www.parklanechampagne.co.uk/park-lane-champagne/special-occasions/easter?productlisting_page=1&sortorder=Price Does anyone know how I can resolve this? Any help greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Jon CDFyp.jpg

Seomoz on-page analysis, how strict to be
Hello, In a competitive niche, how important is it to be strict with the seomoz on-page analysis? If it gives a page/keyword an A, am I good to go? Or do I need to be more strict in that. We've had some competition move above us and we want to make sure we're on-site optimized well. site: nlpca(dot)com Thanks.

What the . . ! Duplicate Pages and Titles WAY up?
My duplicate pages went up 50 plus in the past week, and my duplicate page titles went over more then 100. We recently redesigned the website, but it has been up for several weeks now. The only change I made specifically last week or late the week before was to get my 301 redirects done to get the www. version and the non www version pointing to the same place (as well as a couple other sites that point to it). I'm sure this is not enough info to figure out what went wrong . . . I'd love some help in figuring this out though.

SEOMoz PR vs. Google PR
I have the SEO MozBar set up and for one of the sites we are maintaining, it is showing them on a 59 as PA in the MozBar. When I check it on Google PR, it has either no info or a 0. http://www.prchecker.info was one of the ones I found which shows them as 0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
