Trailing Slash Problems

Link juice being split between trailing slash and non versions. ie. ldnwicklesscandles.com/scentsy-uk and ldnwicklesscandles.com/scentsy-uk/
Initially asked in here and was told to do a rewrite in the htaccess file.
I don't have access to this with squarespace, nor can I add canonical tags on a page by page basis.
301 redirect from scentsy-uk to scentsy-uk/ didn't work either...said that the redirect wasn't completing in an error message on the browser.
Squarespace hasn't been very helpful at all.
My question is....is there another way to fix this? or should I just call it a day with squarespace and move to wordpress?
-
I know this is an old thread but just wondering if anyone ever found a solution in Squarespace, or did everyone just move over to Wordpress?
-
You'll be hard pressed to find a hosted platform that is technically optimized for search engines. Adobe Catalyst, Squarespace, Wix, etc. will all have little (or major) issues. I don't know of too many really popular sites hosted on these platforms, but that's not to say those hosted sites won't rank well for chosen keywords. Anyway, here's what Google has to say about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTrdP7lJ2HU

Hi Christine:
Did you ever find a solution for this? I have a client who's Squarespace site shows rel-con issues with my recent crawl. And to your point, you can't implement that on a per page basis. Squarespace hasn't responded (yet) to a service request. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

Is there a way to get around this without moving to Wordpress? I only will do that if there's absolutely no other way to help my site.
-
Looks like a move to Wordpress is a safe bet then as your system seems very SEO-Unfriendly.
When you do move to Wordpress be sure to check out Yoast SEO Plugin http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/

Aran I can't add canonical tags on a page by page basis. x
-
have you tried using the canonical tag?
-
Essentially, its only a issue when you have links to both the slash and non-slash versions. I would standardize on either having slashes or not, and make sure all links on the site follow the standard. However, after hearing that they lack basic SEO, I would convert to WP.

I really dont understand first main keyword in netherland in top 10 and in belgium not, now changed, now in belgium top 10 and not findable in the netherland on the main keyword. Trailing Slashes and SEO
Hi, We're currently using a third party blog platform (Blog Engine) on our site and we have a trailing slash issue. I can add as many trailing slashes as I want to the blog's homepage URL, but they don't redirect and our dev guys say this cannot be done with Blog Engine. We're in the process of building our own blog but, in the meantime, I just wanted to know if this will cause an issue? Individual blog posts with trailing slashes are redirected, it's just the homepage where it can't be done. I haven't noticed any traffic going to a blog URL with trailing slashes, and I don't believe any URLs with trailing slashes are being indexed, so should this be OK? Cheers, Lewis

Problem generating backlinks
Hello everyone, Over the past couple of days I have been using a variety of different free and paid programs to check how many backlinks I have. I have used at least 15 different ones, SEOmoz is the newest and am awaiting those results. All but one of those programs have said that I have 0 backlinks. The one said I have 11. The thing is...over the past month I have submitted my site to over 500 PR0 directories, 250+ PR3-PR7 directories, have made well over 75 article submissions to over 20 websites(almost all of them were approved and up and running, and some of these websites have a PR of 7), a couple dozen Press Releases, set up profiles linking to my site on over 50 forums, set up profiles linking to my site on a variety of different Web 2.0 sites, and still nothing. I have been doing this every day for over a month. Anyone have any ide?

How to publish duplicate content legitimately without Panda problems
Let's imagine that you own a successful website that publishes a lot of syndicated news articles and syndicated columnists. Your visitors love these articles and columns but the search engines see them as duplicate content. You worry about being viewed as a "content farm" because of this duplicate content and getting the Panda penalty. So, you decide to continue publishing the content and use... <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow"> This allows you do display the content for your visitors but it should stop the search engines from indexing any pages with this code. It should also allow robots to spider the pages and pass link value through them. I have two questions..... If you use "noindex" will that be enough to prevent your site from being considered as a content farm? Is there a better way to continue publication of syndicated content but protect the site from duplicate content problems?

Slash at end of URL causing Google crawler problems
Hello, We are having some problems with a few of our pages being crawled by Google and it looks like the slash at the end of the URL is causing the problem. Would appreciate any pointers on this. We have a redirect in place that redirects the "no slash" URL to the "slash" URL for all pages. The obvious solution would be to try turning this off, however, we're unable to figure our where this redirect is coming from. There doesn't appear to be an instruction in our .htaccess file doing this, and we've also tried using "DirectorySlash Off" in the .htaccess file, but that doesn't work either. (if it makes a difference it is a 302 redirect doing this, not a 301) If we can't get the above to work, then the other solution would be to somehow reconfigure the page so that it is recognizable with the slash at the end by Google. However, we're not sure how this would be done. I think the quickest solution would be to turn off the "add slash" redirect. Any ideas on where this command might be hiding, and how to turn it off would be greatly appreciated. Or any tips from people who have had similar crawl problems with google and any workarounds would be great! Thanks!

.htaccess problem using POST method
Hi guys I'm after some help with trying to achieve the following: 1. Canonicalise to http://www. 2. Remove the index.php from root and subfolders. I have the .htaccess code below, which seemed to work fine, but the urls use the POST method and this isn't working with the rewrites. Can anyone please advise as to what I am doing wrong? As you can probably guess .htaccess isn't my strongest SEO discipline! The code I have is: http:// to http://www. RewriteEngine on
