Right redirect to transfer juice www, no-www and website movement
-
Hi here is my problem, I have a website which works both with www. and without www; Now I want to optimize it and transfer it to another new domain along with the link juice of both the old domain with www and without www. I don't want to do it with multiple redirects but with just one clean redirect (I know that search engines don't like that, am I right?). What should I write in the .htaccess of the old domain and in the one of the new domain?
To summarize I want something like that:
www.oldsite.com/anyfile.html>301>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html
oldsite.com/anyfile.html>301>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html
newsite.com/anyfile.html>301?>www.newsite.com/anyfile.html
Thanks

Yes if you just want to redirect individual pages like that - you could have it so any requests on the domain www and none redirect to the new domain and then specific pages can point to specific pages - see below:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.co.uk$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.olddomain.co.uk$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http://www.newdomain.co.uk" [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^page2.html$ "http://www.newdomain.com/page2.html" [R=301,L]

Ok thank you very much for the useful answer. I have one more question for you. What about if I want to redirect page by page?
Is something like this going to work?
RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.olddomain.com$
RewriteRule ^page1.html "http://www.newdomain.com/page1.html" [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^page2.html "http://www.newdomain.com/page2.html" [R=301,L]
-
RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain.co.uk$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.olddomain.co.uk$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http://www.newdomain.co.uk" [R=301,L]
Add this to your .htaccess file of your oldsite and it will redirect both www. and none www. to your new domain passing on link juice - sorry I wasn't specific before.

This is general information about the topic that I already know. What I need is the exact code to insert in my .htaccess to be sure that I am doing the best redirects for my specific case.
Thanks anyway Matt.

Hi Simone
I think this will help solve your problem -
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/url-rewrites-and-301-redirects-how-does-it-all-work
and how to actually do it -
http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php/
You will only need to create the redirect in the old domains htaccess file so that all traffic to the old domain will go to the new one.

Although it is well rated on several on page and off page seo verification software that I have tried.
I checked Google search console and Analytics and found no major problems. However… from one day to another it keeps going down.
I also checked what the main competitors are doing and they are not doing well, at all.
The main competitor actually has a creepy website. Totally devoid of onpage or offpage SEO but with an enormous number of backlinks. And of a very bad quality, which should disqualify it, still…
Few weeks ago I changed something.
In the pages I had H1, 4xH2, no H3 and an H4 without content.
An unnatural H tag structure.
Now I have H1, H2, H3, 3xH4, with the coherent information.
Theoretically, Google should have been “happy” or I’m missing something. I use a SAAS platform.
I just found out that they made changes to the keywords (tags).
I am selling toner cartridges for printers.
So…
The tags are printer models and generate a url in which they have the products.
Ex. https://www.sertit.ro/cartus-imprimanta-cilindru-color-hp-laserjet-pro-m-177fw goes to the products for that printer model.
The question is… should I make tag canonical?
Is it possible for products to loose so much in Google search?0 -
Setting Up A Website For Redirects
I've got an old defunct domain with a lot of backlinks to individual pages. I'd like to use these backlinks for link juice by redirecting them to individual pages on the new domain (both sites belong to the same company). What is the best way to set this up? I presume I need some kind of hosting & site, even if it's just a default Wordpress install, which I can then use to set up the redirects? Would it be best done using .htaccess file for 301 redirects or some other way?

What I doing wrong when trying to search for links from external websites to my website
This is just the little frustrating question nothing important but I’m sure somebody will know the answer. In the white board Friday this week Rand suggested at one point that when you’re searching for results links to your website if you put a - followed by site followed by your url like –site:yourwebsite.com you get the results of pages with links on other websites but excluding your own webpages but it just doesn’t work I get no results just an error message, any idea why? If I remove the - I get tons of results but there on my own webpages……….

Apache redirects
Hey all I'm handling some redirects and am fuzzy with Apache server stuff. I'm redirecting dynamic URLs and the only thing that's changing is the new domain. I have implemented this in the server file (thus far unsuccessfully): RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^.oldsite.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.)$ http://www.newsite.com/$ [L,R=301] Any ideas on what I can change to make it work? For those who are more familiar I know I'm missing something simple. Thanks as always!0 -
How do I stop www.mysite.com/ showing as a duplicate of www.mysite.com
I have run the campaigns software over a site and it is showing that www.mysite.com/ is a duplicate of www.mysite.com, how do I correct this? Is it a genuine duplicate page? My first thought was to use rel canonical but there is no page called / to put it on. Your suggestions welcomed Sean

301-redirect
Hi My website is fairly new and i wasnt aware of the difference btw 'website.com' and 'www.website.com' when i started up. It doesnt matter which one i use as long as i am consistent right ? Most of my ingoing links are to mainpage on 'website.com'. I have som ingoing links to 'www.website.com' but also some to 'www.website.com/brandname'. is it enough to 301-redir 'www.website.com' to 'website.com' or does it need to be done on several levels ? I need to have someone do the redirect for me - how can i check its working when its done ? Dan Lærum
