Setting a geographic target in webmaster tools
-
If a site is targeting traffic from around the world should I set the geographic targeting in webmaster tools under 'settings' or leave it? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Samuel,
Unless your site is targeting a specific country, then leave it blank. Don't be tempted to point it at US or UK, as you will be essentially telling Google that your site is only relevant for those users, and you will see your international traffic dip.
Good luck
David

Google Ignoring region settings on contact pages
Hi All, I've got an issue with multi-region contact pages. For example, Google favors the UAE other region contact pages for French region searches, when I only want /fr/contact. I've used a Rel-con and set up the website to be pointing to the correct regions.

Canonical issues using Screaming Frog and other tools?
In the Directives tab within Screaming Frog, can anyone tell me what the difference between "canonicalised", "canonical", and "no canonical" means? They're found in the filter box. I see the data but am not sure how to interpret them. Which one of these would I check to find canonical issues within a website? Are there any other easy ways to identify canonical issues?

Google Webmaster Tools Sitelinks Demotions
Does anyone know if the sitelinks demotions tool actually works. I went in and demoted a bunch of pages on my site but the pages are still showing up as sitelinks in search results. I did this like 2 months ago so I am assuming that is plenty of time for it to take. Any help with this would be great. Thanks!

Targeting US search traffic
Hello, I've noticed the site I'm working on gets about 30-40% of Google organic search traffic from the US and the rest comes from around the world. All the site's customers are in the US and so the thought is to focus getting traffic more from the US. I know google webmaster tools has a geo targeting mechanism for the site in question but what I don't want to do is turn that on and then traffic from non-US sources goes away; I suppose that's not so bad if traffic from the US bumps up accordingly. Do you have any experience on this area? thanks -Mike

Google Web Master Tools - Keyword Variants & misspelling
We have millions of urls and the technical expertise to write code to fix the spelling of keyword variants Google has discovered and shows us in Web Master tools. Since Google has recognized these as variants, is it worth our time to write code that will fix the spelling of obvious misses?
