Long URL
-
I am using seomoz software as a trial, it has crawled my site and a report is telling me that the URL for my forum is to long:
<dl>
<dt>Title</dt>
<dd>Healthy Living Community</dd>
<dt>Meta Description</dt>
<dd>Healthy life discussion forum chatting about all aspects of healthy living including nutrition, fitness, motivation and much more.</dd>
<dt>Meta Robots</dt>
<dd>noodp, noydir</dd>
<dt>Meta Refresh</dt>
<dd>Not present/empty</dd>
<dd>

<dl>
<dt>Number of characters</dt>
<dd>135 (over by 21)</dd>
<dt>Description</dt>
<dd>A good URL is descriptive and concise. Although not a high priority, we recommend a URL that is shorter than 75 characters.</dd>
</dl>
</dd>
<dd>
The problem is when I check the page via edit or in the admin section of wordpress, the url is a s follows:

My question is where is I cannot see where this long url is located, it appears to be a valid page but I cant find it.
Thanks

I wouldn't concern myself with this error - many of the large media outlets have long URL's and no issue with traffic. I certainly wouldn't change URL's unless I know I am not getting the expected rankings and traffic to the page. If this is your one error on their report - you are in great shape. kudos.

After you remove a 301 redirect that Google has processed, will the new URL retain any of the link equity from the old URL?
Lets say you 301 redirect URL A to URL B, and URL A has some backlinks from other sites. Say you left the 301 redirect in place for a year, and Google had already replaced the old URL with the new URL in the SERPs, would the new URL (B) retain some of the link equity from URL A after the 301 redirect was removed, or does the redirect have to remain in place forever?

URL redirecting domains
Hi Is there anything wrong/dangerous forwarding a clutch of domains to a sub page (landing page) on a different domain ? Say Brand X buys Brand Z and wants to close down Brand Z site but have Brand Z domain fwd to a landing page (explaining the company acquisition) on Brand X site. In addition Brand Z had a few related but unused domains forwarding to Brand Z doman & now also wants those fwd'd to the new landing page on brand X Since the reasons for doing this forwarding are legitimate company reasons relating to an acquisition i would have thought it should be ok but can anyone think of a reason why could be bad since i remember in the old days peeps used to redirect domains for seo reasons so worried fwd'ing a load of domains could cause some sort of negative flag with big G ? Also do domain redirects transfer the authority/juice from the old site/domain to the new destination page (new landing page on brand x site) similar to how a 301 redirect works ? Many Thanks Dan

301 duplicate content dynamic url
I have a number of pages that appear as duplicate titles in google webmaster. They all have to do with a brand name query. I want to 301 these pages since I'm going to relaunch my new website on wordpress and don't want to have 404s on these pages. a simple 301 redirect doesn't work since they are dynamic urls. here is an example: /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html?q=brand%3Amim+pi%3A&page=2&sort=relevance /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html?q=mim+pi&page=3&sort=relevance /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html?q=mim+pi&page=5&sort=relevance should all be 301 to the original page that I want to remain indexed: /kidsfashionnetherlands/mimpi.html I have a lot of these but for different queries. Should I do a 301 on each of them to avoid having 404s when I change my site to wordpress? Thanks

Backslash in URL
my main URL is www.americanmusical.com, SEOMOZ shows I have a duplicate page title on www.americanmusical.com/. I have the think the backslash is causing other issues. I noticed when I first go to my site it is without the /, but if I navigate to the home page, the URL has the / in it. Any ideas on if this is a problem or how to handle it?

Modifying urls cause broken links?
I want to modify my urls for the purpose of creating clean, informative urls that can be pasted directly for backlink purposes. Instead I have urls with long, garbled, strange characters. When I change the URL it breaks existing back links! Any way around this?

Canonical Tag Pointing To The Same URL
Does it matter if a canonical tag points to the URL in which the tag is on? Example Page: http://www.domain.com Canonical tag: rel="canonical" href="http://www.domain.com" /> I only ask because a client of mine has a CMS that automatically does that to every page on the site and there's no way to remove it. Will this have a negative impact or does it not matter at all? Any insights would be great because I can't find a clear answer anywhere online. Thanks!
