It's not ideal but it's also not a deal breaker. Always think from a user perspective, if I search for 'big yellow dogs' then I would like to see a page name that further confirms and helps me pick that page.
Big Yellow Dogs - Buy Yellow Dogs Online www.colourfuldogs.co.uk/big-yellow-dogs.html View our range of big yellow dogs and choose from a range of yellows including, sunshine, custard or banana yellow to find the perfect large yellow fellow.
Big Yellow Dogs - Buy Yellow Dogs Online
www.randomurl.co.uk/colours/dogs/big/type.php?&requestedcolour=y.... View our range of big yellow dogs and choose from a range of yellows including, sunshine, custard or banana yellow to find the perfect large yellow fellow.
The first one is just a little more readable and you may win some better anchors if people link to the page organically and it may win a few more clicks and...
It's just a tiny bit better and sometimes that is what matters.
Hope this helps

You wouldn't be able to judge your sites rankings on this metric alone.
How long are the URLs? I would say this factor has a very small weighting when it comes to rankings. If you have a strong domain the search engines shouldn't have a problem with ranking it.
The main issue directly affecting rankings is diluting the keyword match in the URL. This article has a section on URL length which you will probably find helpful:

Extreme high number of pages found on webshop
Hi, Im working for the first time on a magento webshop. But i run into a problem where crawlers find then thousands of pages while there are a few hunderd products. I expect is has something to do with filters that generate dynamic URL's. I can't find any setting in Magento to prevent this and i think this will hurt SEO performance because of duplicate content and high amount of pages that need to be crawled while the site has no authority. What would my approach be to solve this? Do i need to ad certain tags to the pages or are these settings in my robots file.

URL Structure
Hi, Hope you are all well. On our website we have a 'blog' and a 'news' section. The blog is located on "/blog" - but when you click on a post the url structure changes to /name-of-article and the blog subdomain isn't included. Would it be better to have "blog/name-of-article as this would then make the blog perform better in search results? Also, if our news page is under /news - but when you click on an article it changes to /news-article/name-of-article Wouldn't it be better to have /news/name-of-article Thanks a lot!! 🙂

Authority site drastic ranking drop after google https switch. Please Help!
Hi Mozers. Since Google switched to the https version, our company website (http://we.register.it) indexing switched to the https version (https://www.register.it). After that the ranking on Google dropped for almost every keyword. The site is very old and got a great authority and PR 7. It ranked for same keywords for very long time On each page from years there is the correct meta rel canonical. No spam, and WMT is ok. Could you please help? The internal links are all in http, and in https. If you are https are in https (they are all relatives) No changes have been made and the subdomain is in that way from 8 years: the main url has always been http://we.register.it Google started this indexing switch around the 15 October

Second URL
Hi We have a .com and a .co.uk Main website is .co.uk, we also have a landing page for the .com If we redirect the .com to the .co.uk, will it create duplicate content ... May seem like a silly question, but want to be sure that that the visitors cant access our website at both urls, as that would be duplicate content Thanks in advance John

How to turn WP site into Ecom site?
I have a couple of old wordpress sites that are old affiliate blogs. I currently sell products that are on amazon on these sites and sell quite a bit of volume. I have found a source and can afford the inventory to replace Amazon with my own product. So the dilema is how to turn these wordpress sites into ecommerce sites. The thing I am worried most about is that each site gets about 100-200 visitors a day for great buying keywords. I obviously don't want to lose my rankings. What are the options of turning a wordpress site into a store. I am not interested in plugins or some of the other solutions that make the store look very cheap and I would assume horribly convert. If you have inner pages ranking for keywords how does that work? Do the post pages become product pages? So to sum up I guess I am asking, what are the options that are of the higher quality that will also help me keep my rankings? Thanks

During a site platform transition, should we 301 redirect all URLs or only those with inbound links?
We have an ecommerce client transitioning to a new platform. Due to the nature of the platform, all the pages will have different URLs. There are between 7000-8000 total pages on the website. We wrote 301 redirects for all URLs which are showing inbound links. Unfortunately, automating this process is pretty difficult and hand writing URLs for 8000 links is unfeasible. Is it worth investing the time to 301 redirect all 8000 URLs, or are we safe with only doing those with inbound links? One other option would be to implement a generic redirect for all the rest of the old URLs that sends them to the homepage. Would this be a good compromise?
