Linking to Authorities
-
Hello,
I know that if its good for the user, its not a bad move. But for this question I am specifically asking for how it affects my ranking.
Does it help my ranking to link to appropriate authority sites?
Have you done any tests to see if linking out to authoritative sites like .gov info pages, industry leaders, etc. help with a sites ranking.I am thinking about taking of all of these outgoing links and just link to my important pages.
Thank you,
Tyler

In my opinion,
Linking out to Business/Gov/Local authoritative sites can help built that trust in your brand, in the Eyes of the searcher. and Google will acquire these info about your site too. ( that u do exist and your are legit---> Trust)
For example BBB badge, NLA (national Limo association), FAA.gov, Local Chamber of commerce.

Hi Tyler...
I do not remember the exact definition of this, but to preserve all the juice on your site is not suggested by Google.
To answer to your doubt, I suggest you to find the answer reading this old but still very valid post by Randfish: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/5-reasons-you-should-link-out-to-others-from-your-website

Having outgoing links to authority sites, shows an indication of usefulness for the end user which Google is looking for, because Google wants what's best for the end user. We have heard that from Matt Cutts time after time.
So, furthermore, first, I would just test it, because you don't know till you test.
What I would personally say would be have a mix of both (links to authority and internal links), because if you have been following the SEOmoz blog, the post today (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/facebook-twitters-influence-google-search-rankings) actually talks about ranking factors at the end with a power point, and internal links were still deemed a very valuable part of on-site optimization. So, I would change half of the outbound links to internal links.
Once again, just test it, then you can draw the conclusion yourself for your site and niche.

Working on new link structure
Hello Mozzzzzzzzzzz I'm currently working on the new link structure for our website. We currently organize our content in sub folder =Main category
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | floaumet
= = Sub category
= = =Specialty
= = = Product main name
= = = ==Product specific name
= = = == =Manufacturer Each of them has some potential strong KW and I will be happy to use it on the URL. URL are more than 50 kw long when I use all This are very niche item for which people may refer to them through different names (potential folders) My current concerns will be Should we make long url respecting the structure (Main category)/(Sub category)/(Specialty)/(Product main name)/(Product specific name)/(maufacturer) Should I combine some like (Main category)/(Sub category)/(Specialty)/(Product main name)/(Product specific name)-(maufacturer) Should I keep them simple /(product_main name) Should I keep the main folders just to display the articles belonging to this category (Main category)/(Sub category)/(Specialty)/(Product main name) and then keep the product under a sub folder only? Any other idea?0 -
Link Juice + Site Structure
Hi All, I have attached a simple website model.

Page A is the home page attracting 1000 visitors per month.
One click away is Page B with 400 visitors per month, so on and so forth. You get an idea of the flow and clicks required to get to various pages. I have purposely placed Pages E-G to be 3 clicks away as they yield very little traffic. 1] Is this the best way to distribute link juice?
2] Should I point Pages C + D back to page A to influence its Page Rank (PA) Any other useful advice would be appreciated. Thanks Mark vafnchI0 -
Link Building for E-Commerce
Hi, Our on page optimization, albeit for a few dupe content issues, is ok - We have good keyword rich URL's, Titles, H1's and unique product descriptions. So now I want to look at building links that will boost our DA and PA's. We have over 2000 products on the store and around 130 categories/subcategories -and I would appreciate any views on where to start - My initial view is to get backlinks from the relevant manufacturer websites to the "shop by brand" page on our site related to these manufacturers - What other strategies should I look at? Thanks, Ben

Site Wide Link Situation
Hi- We have clients who are using an e-commerce cart that sits on a separate domain that appears to be providing site wide links to our clients websites. Therefore, would you recommend disallowing the bots to crawl/index these via a robots.txt file, a no follow meta tag on the specific pages the shopping cart links are implemented on or implement no follow links on every shopping cart link? Thanks!

Natural Link Profile, low and high value links, really?
I cant really get my head around this one. I've read a few times when building links make sure you pick up so low value links as well. So here is an example (and lets say each link takes half hour to get): I got 5 hours of link building and this is what I have managed to get with the time. 1. 10 high value links all with PA/DA 50-60+ 2. 5 high value links with PA/DA 50-60+ AND another 5 low value links with PA/DA 10-. Surely #1 beats #2 hands down?

How should I handle these links?
I recently purchased a site which is in the same niche as my personal blog. MANY of the keywords which I want both sites to rank for, they are already ranking well for (Eg I rank #1 with one site and #5 for the other). I haven't started linking the two sites to each other yet (waiting to announce the acquisition before I do). I have 2 questions for you all... How powerful do you think linking between these sites could be? How do you think I should handle the linking between these two sites?

Are URL shorteners building domain authority everytime someone uses a link from their service?
My understanding of domain authority is that the more links pointing to any page / resource on a domain, the greater the overall domain authority (and weight passed from outbound links on the domain) is. Because URL shorteners create links on their own domain that redirect to an off-domain page but link "to" an on-domain URL, are they gaining domain authority each time someone publishes a shortened link from their service? Or does Google penalize these sites specifically, or links that redirect in general? Or am I missing something else?
