Changing keyword target on home page? Will it work?
-
I have a site that is in the financial services niche and has around 20 pages talking about different services.
I want to change the goal of the site and now just target Insurance.
The current home page is a simple introduction to the website, I was going to change this to target the insurance keyword and put around 500 words content on the front page. I was also going to change the Page Title, Description and H1 tags too.
My question is will the front page then rank for that keyword once google recrawls the site? Could I damage the PR of the site or any other factors from changing the front page.
Here are some stats about the site
- 11 years old
- PR 3
- Page Mozrank 5.58
- Page Moztrust 5.61
- Domain Mozrank 2.29
- Domain Moztrust 3.17
Thanks for your help guys

What matters is the overall quality of the pages of your website and the number or quality of backlinks. The order that pages appear in the results of a search at a search engine are influenced by the number of pages that link to that page, and by rankings of the pages that link to that page.
When a site is linked to by a popular and trusted domain, that link might provide more value than a link from a site that is less popular and trusted.
Domain age may be a factor but just a minor one. Think about the condition wherein someone would bought a domain and have just parked for last 10 years. Will putting a content on it will give any boost to its rank??

Thanks for the reply. Just to make things clearer, its not actually insurance I am targeting, it is a financial product, I chose that to keep it simple.
The front page doesnt actually rank high for much anyway, I wanted to change the front page to target the most profitable product/service that we sell.
Am I correct in thinking that the front page should do ok due to the age of the domain and the mozrank and moztrust? The reason I am asking that is I see a massive serp change since penguin and noticed that the ones now ranking are all aged domains. The top one is 4 years old with 20 backlinks, thats it!

Your page rank will not be affected at least by the changes you have mentioned. According to me you can safely go ahead and do this.
1. But if your home page ranks on any keyword currently, changing the title, description and content may have impact on it.
2. By making changes in the home page, you are working towards optimization of site for sure but that doesn't mean you will immediately get rewarded.
3. To outrank the top ranked sites on SERP on keyword "insurance" you have to match their back-linking portfolio too, which takes its own time
4. Analyze competition and plan for a good link building campaign along with the on page optimization effort you are putting in.

Best way to link to 1000 city landing pages from index page in a way that google follows/crawls these links (without building country pages)?
Currently we have direct links to the top 100 country and city landing pages on our index page of the root domain.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
I would like to add in the index page for each country a link "more cities" which then loads dynamically (without reloading the page and without redirecting to another page) a list with links to all cities in this country.
I do not want to dillute "link juice" to my top 100 country and city landing pages on the index page.
I would still like google to be able to crawl and follow these links to cities that I load dynamically later. In this particular case typical site hiearchy of country pages with links to all cities is not an option. Any recommendations on how best to implement?0 -
Client WIll Not Rank for Targeted KW Terms
Good Morning Mozzers, I am at a total loss. I have been working with a client in a "difficult" (to say the very least) vertical for roughly the past two years and for the life of me, cannot get these clients to rank within the top 3 for the targeted keyword terms. It seems that every time our targeted keyword begin to gain a little bit of traction and improve their ranking position, it is immediately followed by the same keywords plummeting shortly thereafter. I have done everything (in my mind) I can to try and get this client's keyword terms to rank, everything from revising the on-/off-page content, building citations, submitting the site to services like Yext, advertising on AdWords and Yelp, etc. but it doesn't seem to make any significant difference. I'm hoping that someone can offer some guidance into how I can get these clients to start ranking highly for the targeted keyword terms because I'm at a complete loss. I look forward to all of your responses! Thank you for reading. If you'd like to check out the site, the URL is: www.lawtonmd.com

Keyword Rankings: One keyword dropped, dragging other rankings down. Possible or not?
Hey moz fans, So these week I noticed significant drop in rankings... But what caught my attention is that one specific keyword dropped 18 positions, and all the other just 1-3. Print screen: http://prntscr.com/7fb4g4 Do you think it's possible that the drop of that page, that went 18 positions down, brought the whole domain down? Or is it another cause?

Is this keyword easy to rank? how can I estimate what kind of work it takes.
I am Using Micro Niche Finder KeyWord: Send SMS online domain available: .org Avg. Monthly searches: 1600 Adword cost : 2.12 Measure of Back link: 633 SOC: 20 (green) Most of the Back link using Majestic SEO appear to be coming from sendhub.com and massmailsoftware.com website. I researched sites with these keywords and those sites appear to have tiered pricing plans and appear to be charging money for their services. My plan, put some effort in organic SEO and rank this site to page 1. Get some optin users and start communicating with them to see what is their pain point. How can I tell on what it takes to rank this page to page 1 on google? Would it take lot of blog articles for back link and if so… how many? Is a rough estimate possible. Thanks.

Thanks Mozzers!

How do I fix the error duplicate page content and duplicate page title?
On my site www.millsheating.co.uk I have the error message as per the question title. The conflict is coming from these two pages which are effectively the same page: www.millsheating.co.uk www.millsheating.co.uk/index I have added a htaccess file to the root folder as I thought (hoped) it would fix the problem but I doesn't appear to have done so. this is the content of the htaccess file: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^millsheating.co.uk RewriteRule (.*) http://www.millsheating.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.html\ HTTP/ RewriteRule ^index\.html$ http://www.millsheating.co.uk/ [R=301,L] AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
