Site links show spam
-
Hi folks,
I'm working on a website that runs on WordPress and was not updated by the owner, this has resulted in a malware injection and now when you search the companies name in Google, the site links appear with words like Viagra, et al.
I've seen this a number of times, so I went through the code and have removed all the malware.
I presume I now have to wait for Google to recrawl the website and update the site links? Is there anything else I should be doing to speed up the process?
Thank you
-
Yeh, I could do that, but through other websites I noticed that it says it'll take effect only from November!
Anyway, sounds like I've done what I can and hopefully Google will crawl the website again soon and re-index appropriately
-
Ah, I see what you mean! I thought you meant there were spam pages on your site that were appearing on the sitelinks.
I see, in my webmaster tools that there is a button to "remove demotion", so you could possibly still demote these urls so they don't appear on your sitelinks. Then, once Google has recrawled them remove the demotion and they should appear as normal.

Hi Marie,
Yes, alright so when I search for the brand name in Google, it shows 6 site links as per usual. However, these site links have names such as Viagra, Spam, Spam, but their URL links are actual links on the website for proper content! So, the malware that got into the site managed to make use of proper URLs on the site, but change the title tags per say.
Does that make sense? So I don't want to demote links that are there, I just want to remove the bad title tags..

Hi Christopher...perhaps I am misunderstanding the question, but I would think that you could just demote all of the sitelinks that are spammy. Then Google will replace them with appropriate ones.
-
I was under the impression that you could only demote links, not actually change them? Strangely enough, for some reason I recall being able to see the active site links in Webmaster Tools, but when I check for this site, it only gives the option to demote?
-
You can change/delete sitelinks in your Webmaster Tools.

Thanks Mat,
Exactly what I told the owner of the website, guess I'll have to see how he responds. Hopefully this will get cleaned up quickly
-
It'll get there in it's own time. However a few fresh links & a bit of new front page content never harms the crawl rate.

Advice - Remova/ Disavowl of Inbound Spam Links
We have a fair few of inbound spam links in the 1000s with a spam score going all the way up to 90. What would be the best thing to deal with this, i'm thinking to disavow anything about 40. But we are fearful of any issues which could come of this. Any advice would be really helpful.

Spam Links Attack, Negative SEO?
Last April we migrated our old domain www.nyc-officespace-leader.com to a new domain www.metro-manhattan.com. The old domain has been receiving numerous links from very spammy sites such as these: -adinternet.net/the_worlds_most_visited_web_pages_958.htm <colgroup><col width="263"></colgroup>

| www.webfind.org/the_worlds_most_visited_web_pages_958/ | Since the old domain redirects to our new domain we are concerned this could be very detrimental. Oddly enough the 50-100 spammy domains that link to us all are a site called: "http://theglobe.se/start/" when the linking domain is entered in the browser. What should we do? Should we disavow these links? Is this some kind of an attack? Would very much appreciate some input/advice. Thank,

Spam Score 8/17 with no inbound links. Any hints ?
Hi everyone, One of my client's website has a 8/17 Spam Score. (Domain Authority 18) Thing is, he has 0 inbound links (using Open site explorer) but he has 5 referring domains (when using Majestic). No error messages whatsoever in his Search Console. My questions are : what could explain that 8 Spam Score ? what can I do to lower that spam score (except disavow links in GWT) ? Thanks!

We have 302 redirect links on our forum that point to individual posts. Should we add a rel="nofollow" to these links?
Moz is showing us that we have a HUGE amount of 302 redirects. These are coming from our community forum. Forum URL: https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/ Example thread URL: https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/viewthread/322/ Example URL that points to a specific reply: https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/viewreply/1582/ The above link 302 redirects to this URL: https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/viewthread/322/#1582 My two questions would be: Do you think we should we add rel=nofollow to the specific reply URLs? If possible, should we make those redirects 301 vs. 302? Screencast attached. nofollow_302.mp4

Can I turn off Google site links?
I thought at one time I had turned off the option to have Google sitelinks. I did this so that each of our pages that had a strong presence would occupy a unique slot on the first and second page of Google. This was important to us as we were battling some reputation management issues and trying to push out negative listings from the front page. Recently I noticed sitelinks were back up and when going into Google Webmaster Tools, I could figure out how to opt out of them. Any suggestions?

Google.ca is showing our US site instead of our Canada Site
When our Canadian users who search on google.ca for our brand (e.g. Travelocity, Travelocity hotels, etc.), the first few results our from our US site (travelocity.com) rather than our Canadian site (travelocity.ca). In Google Webmaster Tools, we've adjusted the geotargeting settings to focus on the appropriate locale, but the wrong country TLD is still coming up at the top via google.ca. What's the best way to ensure our Canadian site comes up instead of the US site on google.ca? Thanks, Tory Smith
